I've been a Boy Scout since 2003. I've gone on five high adventure trips. From backpacking on Cumberland Island, in the White Mountains, and on the Olympic Peninsula, to kayaking on Yellowstone Lake, to backpacking 100+ miles over 10 days at Philmont this past summer. I've been a Patrol Leader. I've been active in the Senior Patrol. Scouting gave me an opportunity to tour the Browns facilities in Berea and play around on the indoor practice field.
So many amazing things over these past six years. I cannot say enough great things about Boy Scouts. I've been a member of a very special troop, and I am incredibly thankful for that.
Last night I was at my scoutmaster's house finishing up my final merit badge and had my conference. He signed everything off and I was able to get all the paperwork to my troop's chairman. I finished my project last week and was a few merit badges short. As you can tell by the cake, today is my 18th birthday.
Everything still needs to go through the district before I have my board, and then it goes to National before anything is official. But hopefully in a few weeks I will be able to tell all of you that I have earned my Eagle Scout.

Good luck, VG and Happy belated birthday! I have a cousin that earned his Eagle Scout many years ago. He's still pretty involved with the scouts. It's a great accomplishment!

You have done quite a bit in your time as a scout. Those are some impressive trips. I never made it to Philmont. So my only hope now is to get into shape and to go as an adult leader... Many do not know that less than 2% of all the boys who get into scouting ever make it to the rank of Eagle Scout. Every single man who has set foot on the moon was an Eagle Scout. Just recently my company, The Cleveland Clinic, in conjunction with the Greater Cleveland Council started a new project. It started off as just a question. The council just wondered aloud how many Eagle's were in Cleveland's major companies. The came to the Clinic first. they were hoping to find 15.....maybe 20. To their surprise they found 92. Ninety Two Eagle Scouts in a variety of positions in one of Clevelands most prestigious Companies. My father was an Eagle Scout. I, like you finished my paperwork and project and stuff just before my 18th birthday. I am an Eagle. My little brother didn't have a choice...LOL From the little I have heard, I would be glad to welcome you to the fraternity. I would be very happy to hear about your project. Good Luck....We are rooting for you...
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

Good luck! It's something they can never take away from you.
And finish it...don't let something like that slip away.

Congrats VG! Keep up the good work. It's the dad in me, I'm going to state the obvious so I apologize in advance. Make a point to thank your troop leader and tell them what you told us. The work they do is incredibile. My daughter is in GS working on her gold award. She enjoys it very much but it's almost a secret society because the girls are afraid they'll be branded the uncool in high school, so keep this on the down low. BTW this dad was very pleased to find out that there is alot of scholarship money available to these kids. I can now say with a straight face that I ate all those boxes of GS cookies for a good cause.

Good job on not letting yourself be left alone with the den leader through all those years. Way to come out of this with your man hood intact. Seriously though that's sweet, nice job.

Congrats on the hard work. I'm an Eagle Scout and I barely got it just 2 weeks before my 18th. I have no idea what the rules will be regarding whatever requirements you didn't meet.
I'm curious as to what your service project was if you don't mind telling. I relocated a portion of a hiking trail off of some national forest property that was sold to some rich guy.
I never made it to Philmont and never did a 100 mile hike. Good work.
I did do a 50 mile canoe trek through the Adirondacks. Amazing. Except for the enormous mosquitoes of course . . .

Way to go!!! I made Eagle right before my 18th too. John Glenn spoke at my ceremony. (there were 3 of us). I like that you weren't one of the 14 yr old eagles. Those always made me wonder.
I didn't realize there were so many Eagle Scouts on here.
