Hey As you prolly don't know, I have an internet radio station that plays mostly alternative music. But lately I have been getting into punk rock and want to do a punk net show weekly. So, I'm looking for suggestions on bands. I have most of the old school bands...Stooges, Clash, Sex Pistols, etc.....so...I'm looking for suggestions on new school bands. I'm trying to stay away from hardcore, as it all sounds the same to me. So, PLEASE, tell me your ideas. And not freakin Green Day. hehe Real punk is not played on Clear Channel. -Eve

Duh. After reading ALL of your post I saw you wanted NEW bands Oh well, maybe some of these older ones can make your show too. My all time favorites, most of which I skateboarded to in the late 80's. 80's punk rock is still some of my all time favorite music. 1. Descendents. A great compilation of their early work is Liveage! It's a concert disc that is my all time favorite. I like all Descendents though. 2. Minor Threat. Get the Complete Discography CD. Simply AWESOME. 3. Black Flag. Henry Rollins at his best - my favorite is Who's Got the 10 1/2, though I do like the Rollins Band End of Silence recording a lot too. 4. Dag Nasty. I like all of their stuff, but my favorite is Wig Out At Denko's. 5. fIREHOSE or Minutemen. Kinda mellow, fIREHOSE came to be from the Minutement. If you watch Jackass at all, the song Corona is the twangy guitar introduction of it. A great compilation is Double Nickels on the Dime. For fIREHOSE, go with If'N or From Ohio. 6. Faith No More. Their first recording, prior to Mike Patton being in the band is fantastic - it's titled We Care A Lot. 7. Camper Van Bethoven. This is a bunch of members of Cracker before they became Cracker. Pictures of Matchstickmen is still one of my all time favorite songs. 8. Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their first three full length records are awesome - Red Hot Chili Peppers, Freaky Styley, Uplift [censored] Party Plan. 9. Bauhaus/Love and Rockets. Earth-Sun-Moon and Express are my two favorite Love and Rockets discs. I like all Bauhaus. 10. R.E.M. Anything before Document. 11. Jane's Addiction. Get the Kettle Whistle recording. Good stuff. 12. Ministry. My favorite car song of all time - Jesus Built My Hotrod. It's always with me at the raceNtrack. 13. N.I.N. You can't go wrong with old Nine Inch Nails. Great industrial stuff. 14. Pixies. Always good. A great compliation is Death To The Pixies: 1987-1991 15. Rage Against the Machine. Not really punk, but great music. Their first recording is my fav. 16. Violent Femmes. 17. Screaming Trees. Buzz Factory is my favorite recording of theirs. 18. The Smiths/Morrisey. Nice mellow, depressing stuff. 19. The Cult. 20. The Cure. Goth depression, but still nice. 21. They Might Be Giants. Not punk, but very unique. That's all I can think of for now. An honorable mention is "Bitchin' Camaro" by the Dead Milkmen. Never really liked them, but that song is awesome.

You could add Flogging Molly...theyre similar to the Dropkicks. some other bands that are pretty punk +44 311 The Adicts - old stuff, but still good, in the modle of the ramones and such bands All Time Low...kinda generic for the new style of punk, but are still an indie band thats punk At The Drive-In Armor For Sleep Black Flag (in case no one has mentioned) Blur (to an extent) Boy Hits Car Brand New The Bravery Sonic Youth The Cramps Damone Sparta Dead Poetic Dead Kennedys Death From Above 1979 The Fall...not as punk, but their style is equally rebellious, if not for their messages but their music style The Alkaline Trio Heavens (lead singer of Alkaline Trio side project) Hit The Lights Last Laugh The Transplants (slightly hip hop) Rancid....definitely, theyre very good The Mars Volta isnt so much punk, but very unique Me First And The Gimme Gimmes are a punk cover band, they cover anything and make it punk The Misfits of course OPM The Rakes Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (kinda commercial, but still punk and pretty decent) Reggie & The Full Effect Rise Against...Amazing band. Saves The Day...im not a huge fan, but a lot of punk fans are Sparks Strata The Strokes Sublime TRUSTcompany The Vines The Hives there...Right off my playlist

Can't believe I forgot to mention Sublime---one of my favorite bands ever. Saw them at peabody's in 96 or 97. I think, maybe it was 95. At any rate, Bradley Nowell is greatly missed.
Favorite song--Secret Tweaker Pad.

I haven't seen them yet, so I'd like to input the Dead Milkmen.
When I drive past the kids, they all spit and cuss, Because I've got a BITCHIN CAMARO and they have to ride the bus. So you'd better get out of my way, when I run through your yard; Because I've got a BITCHIN CAMARO; And an Exxon credit card. BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
If you can find them, local punk bands from my area are Buttsteak and the Worthless Dizzies (all girl punk).

Old school... Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, The Clash, X-ray Spex, The Slits, Generation X, Slaughter and the Dogs, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Jam, The Damned, X (yes, just one letter) (as you can tell, my tastes are with the 76 London scene!!) New school... there are too many. To be honest I don't listen to new stuff much anymore, just what I listened to in college. Some like Squirtgun, Pansy Division, Screeching Weasel, Lunachicks, The Smugglers, The Hives, The Hi-Fives, Rancid... I dunno, there are just too many.

i have to disagree on the whole hardcore all sounding the same comment...
while some hardcore is bland and repetitive, there are also some great bands...
i'll list some bands that i have on my computer, not all of these are hardcore, but they're all great to listen to...
cave in minus the bear (not hardcore, but their members were guys from botch, one of the better hardcore bands ever) deftones isis converge (great hardcore/metal with punk roots) these arms are snakes bane (one of the very best punk/hardcore) dredg (not really punkrock, they sound similiar to tool, without all the hooplah, great band) kayo dot envy neurosis

New stuff is only so-so... Turn 21 is by far my favorite CD of theirs. Anything they did on Lookout! is amazing.

I saw Billy Talent open for the Buzzcocks years ago at Peabodys. I have to say I was not all that impressed.
Oh, and I forgot a GREAT local band, THE VACANCIES

Yeah I got some pics of me with the whole band and then all of them individually. The first time I saw them was at this hole in Columbus called Bernies... it was early 2000 and they pulled the plug on the set because the crowd was on the stage and the ceiling was falling in. Rock and roll
I have seen them 3 or 4 times and they never fail to amaze me.
