Actions speak louder than words. Personally he can be smoke and mirrors all he wants if the product on the field is competitive.
I think we've grown accustomed to Phil Savage...who IMO said TOO much about what he wanted to do.

All I'm getting at is I am tired of the "they gave a good effort". That's the "smoke and mirrors" we have all known and accustomed to even back to Botch. Maybe I was looking for John Wayne,... but Lord...right now "Mr. Robinson" looks good. How bout a good old fashion... COME GET YA SOME!

Well put GM. To others....This aint a debate team or English 4 or even Coach speak 101. People buy into how well someone speaks and anoints them a savior or a stinker. (it got Oboma elected ) and Obama has proved as of now all he can do is say the right thing....he has to back it up. All Coke needs to do is get the job done. He has the petigree and basic knowlege and i could care LESS if he comes off GREAT ina freckin presser. The ONLY grade that can be passed can not be done till he has been given time to prove his methods and skills on bringing wins or losses. Untill then......Pressers dont win or lose games nor can even give indications.
You dont have to win every game just the next one!

Did anybody notice that Koki said that once the coaching staff decided on what type offense they wanted to run he would then be able to identify who our QB should be. I think we are about to let go of one of our guys (profound I know) no question there, but the part I found really strange was he never hinted 1 bit as to who that might be. Could it be that BQ will be the odd man out? Now wouldn't that be a shocker?
It's pretty clear to this poster that this team is about to be engulfed in secrecy. That's bound to PO the press. And from there the press is bound to rip away at this regime, where in for a long silent off-season full of speculation, and change.

Actually he did...And I'll paraphrase...
When talkin' QB he said...
Accuracy... Reading D's... Arm Strength... Leadership...
I have a WILD guess who he WASN'T referring to...

Hint...Hint...lol...
What do you think the Vikings will do about their QB situation? Any free agents(Garcia)?
Adam Schefter, NFL Network
James: The good thing for the Vikings is, it's an intriguing off-season for quaterbacks. Matt Cassel, Derek Anderson and Donovan McNabb could be available in trade.
But if you're the Vikings, and you want to solidify the position, you have two primary options to me: trading for Anderson or signing Garcia. Garcia would be a short-term solution, Anderson a longer-term but pricier one. To get Anderson is going to cost at least a second-round pick, and maybe a first, and that's a steep price. Then again, Minnesota traded its 1 last year and that worked out pretty well, didn't it?
I love Schefter but how's he figure that one???
Go Browns!!!

If people think we can't get a first for DA, I say we go after Detroit's second 1st round pick at 20. They need a QB and we need a sucker to go for that one!

He also said he wants a QB that can complete passes. I, too, thought he was referring to one over the other, but you never really know with these guys.

I think Detroit goes Stafford w/ their first pick, and OT w/ their second first round pick.

Ain't it amazing what people hold value on
Look what we found out was we don't have an Entertainer nor a BS artist as our new GM.
He was on the job for 3 hours...but the press wanted a blow by blow description of what he was going to do the next 3-4 months.
I loved it when he made his first JOKE and there was DEAD SILENCE in the room... I thought that was so amusing.
Oh and btw - making a fast take on GK's personality...I think he has a good sense of humor that people just don't expect him to have. When asked about the QB and he stated "Complete Passes" this wasn't a leak of Information. Guess what? That was another example of GK's sense of humor but nobody gets him...lol
Then he spelled out that before he could assess our QB situation he would have to know what Daboll and Smith wanted from their QB to run our offense. Until he knew that he couldn't begin to provide input on the subject.
And even when he does know he won't tip his hand cause if we look to trade one we don't want to have their value drop.
Look this guy is nothing but a Hard Working - Roll up your sleeves kind of guy!
There isn't one ounce of EGO in him...this isn't a trip thing. On paper he has Power of the 53...but his way of thinking is that - Knowledge is the Key to making the right moves. If we do our work and get the proper knowledge of players. Then if there is an initial conflict between Mangini and Kokinis - they will lock themselves into a room and explore that knowledge and won't come out until they have a "CONSENSUS" and that decision.
He said that they have that kind of relationship where they can go at each other without tip toeing around each others feelings and get their points across.
If Fans were looking to be WOWed by a Flim Flam man...GK isn't the guy. But if people can actually listen to the words that he said. And get a grasp of what kind of guy we have here. I don't see how they can't like it.

I agree 100 percent EO, and none of us will know for a few years IF he can get the job done or not. It just drives me nuts to see those who are clueless around here bashing the guy, or praising him to much. Only time is going to tell if he is the right man for the job.

it took me a little while to come to terms with this hire. as mentioned before, it's not the sexiest pick and i couldn't quite understand it. it just felt like a coach hiring a gm thing, which seemed almost pointless to me. that said, i've come to terms with it and now, i'm even loving the selection. i love the fact that we took a guy whose responsibility, in one of the top FO's in the nfl, was to evaluate pro personel. i wasn't immpressed as far as his responsibility evaluate potential free agents but when i read that he provided input (essentially scouting reports) to the coaches about opponents weekly, that sold me. if you look at it from lerner's perspective, who else is better to validate our roster and talent than a guy who had the responsibility of "scouting" the browns the past however many years? it's almost perfect. now we'll have this guy with no ties to our previous draft pick and we'll see how a top FO like the ravens really views our roster. lot more insight into players like a leon williams, jamal lewis, sean jones, brodney pool, eric wright, brandon mcdonald and even anderson/quinn. being an optimist, it sounds like koke can optimize our roster because he comes in already understanding it from an opponent's mindset and i would expect that to be extremely helpful to someone like mangini who only played us a couple times. another note, he mentioned in the presser that he's carrying two qb's. found that interesting considering we just came off a season where we had to use four, but that's the way the nfl is going now with a starter, a backup, and an emergency (probably cribbs). at least this means no more dorsey

With Cribbs being able to "probably" provide more sound ability at QB than Dorsey ever could, it's also a roster spot.
The question would be then, if Anderson (or Quinn) is gone, are we then not in the hunt for another QB ?
In the meantime, I say keep them both.

the best case scenario for me is a restructure to anderson's deal (after listening to offers) and just having a ;b battle. i know it many will say "having 2 qbs is having none" but when it's as important a position as qb, and given how long we'd be keeping the starter, we can wait out one more year of mediocrity to make sure we have the right qb.
and i completely agree about the roster spot point. i never liked keeping dorsey and always felt it was a waste of a spot if what he brought to the table was a player coach.

I think you read way too much into that.
He was asked and again his sense of humor kicked in....He blurted out I know I will have 2...I think he even mentioned...at least 2...meaning taking the question literally rather than the DA vs. BQ thing. But joking around stating that he'll have at least 2 QBs...it could be Rin Tin Tin and Scout but at least two.

it wasn't so much me reading too much as i guess the use of "roster" that is causing me to lean that way. you can understand how, when i read "we're going to have two quarterbacks on the roster, that's for sure" i took it to mean that they were planning on having two qbs on the roster. the interpretation comes in the "that's for sure," which i can see as sarcastic but my initial impression was more along the lines of "that's what i know, at least, right now." not hearing it, though, i wouldn't be able to tell the tone and emphasis to see if it was sarcastic or not, lol. Quote:
(On the quarterback situation)- “We’re going to have two quarterbacks on the roster, that’s for sure. Both of those quarterbacks have skill level, there’s no doubt about it. I think it’s important, and you hear me repeating myself a little bit, but Brian Daboll is going to be a big part of that, Carl Smith is going to be a big part of that. I’m really interested to see what they want to run. We talked about the Steelers earlier today and you want to know why they’ve been so good is because they fit their personnel to what they want to do. In New England, they fit their personnel to what they want to do. The best teams do that. For me to sit here and say we’re goiÔg to pick one over the other, I need to be more familiar with what Brian and coach Mangini want to do. It’s tough for me to come up here and say we’re going to pick him because I think he’s got a stronger arm. I can’t do that right now.”

I agree that he was trying to be funny. It was almost like, "Duh, of course we'll have two QBs on the roster". And, I certainly hope we do -- no matter who they are. Can't have just one.

See, we have no idea who those "two are". It could be DA and Gradkowski. DA and BQ. BQ and Gradkowski.
And I'd say if it were Rin Tin Tin and Scout, they would figure they are talented or they wouldn't sign them.

So, as of now we have no idea "who the two are". And I believe the bolded parts of the above quotes kind of point that out.

Let's be honest here, some reporter was trying to get him to say he can't have Quinn and DA on the same roster.... That's what the reporter wanted because that would be THE story.
What he got was a kinda funny answer that there would be TWO QB's on the roster.
How anyone can take that as anything other than Koks avoiding a STUPID line of questioning at this stage is beyond me.

i don't think anyone is taking his statement as any indication of who will be the qb. as i mentioned, not knowing the question since i didn't get a change to watch the presser, all i saw was "there will be two qbs on the roster" and i don't think it's that unreasonable to take that to mean what it says.
that said, i don't think this is something that is with any real analysis. no one wrote the question that was asked before, only saying "(on the subject of quarterbacks)." if you remember the question, would you mind posting it?
back on kokinis though, i really hope to hear about our roster though it seems we're taking that turn towards secrecy, which would be pretty brutal.

How can you expect answers "about our roster" before anyone has time to evaluate it? The guy was just hired Sunday in the P.M.
Wouldn't you rather give them a little time as a unit to study and come up with a logical answer first? I'm sure they could toss out a few names for you.
But what does that do from a bargaining position? Come on man, think for a minute?
As an example, much is tossed about in regards to trading DA.
What if.........
What if Koke would have said, "BQ will be our guy!"
Now he would have just let 31 other teams know that DA is expendable to you. His value just dropped. How wise would that be?
Getting used to people doing things the "smart way" may take a little patience. But that's far better than wanting them to do it the wrong way..........................again.

your mission is to convince me WHAT TYPE OF O THAT DA COULD RUN AFFECTIVELY "Your Mission should you choose to accept it... Actually when DA was able to run anything..and I use the phrase loosely because he was still inconsistant and a errant thrower..it's when he's able to throw downfield in the 15-25 yard range and not have defenses schemed to make him throw underneath. Thats not a WCO..it's a vertical passing game.. I've seen enough to know he's still basically the same QB he was at Oregon St..gunslinger but can't control/finesse his passes..and has trouble with coverages.. Probably not the response you were looking for..but thats what I see out of him.

But ask anyone that listened to it and it really seemed to reek of a set up or trick question that Koks didn't fall for.... that's the way I remember it.

It was a loaded question..I can't remember who asked the question but it was obvious they were trying to goad him to give up his position on the QB's..they all need to wait and see what they do.

Attack, I just tracked it down..the exact question was:
Do you see this team going forward with Two Quarterbacks this year?
and he said they'll be two QB's on the roster for sure... and he laughed as he was saying it.
he know he was being set up and didn't fall for it...
