Ahhhh, because I just registered does not mean I have just started reading.
Second, dont be so naive to think I'm actually talking about any of you specifically. I am a Browns fans, and I am generalizing Browns fans. However, I have seen Browns fans boo every quarterback we have had since '99. And thats a disgrace to the game.
I come to this site to read the opinions of fellow fans, not to bash anyone. I just want to see the Browns win. What is this? A Fraternity??

I'm not waterdawg, but I can tell you in all honesty, I've cheered for and supported each and every one that started for the Browns - and that's not just the new era.
That is my point exactly. It should not matter what the name on the back of their jersey is. When they lace up the shoes, put on the pads, and throw that jersey on they are our Cleveland Browns and I support them. My point was I think we all should.
I agree wholeheartedly about Couch. The best we've had of yet. I also supported him til the end. Frye, had the biggest heart of anyone, but didn't have the skills.

Did anyone besides me actually listen to this interview?
Quinn was on the Dan Patrick Radio Show to peddle Pedigree (the dog food).

"Learn to cheer for the name on the front of the jersey, which is Cleveland,"
I hate to do this, but, since you've gone ahead and used it as your screen name you should be corrected. The name on the front of the jersey is "Browns"
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

I thought you would know since you've been reading for so long!

A fraternity? No..... But a bunch of fans who have posted for a long time and are familiar with each other? Overall, yes.
And a lot of "us guys" will, do and can support whoever is playing. That's pretty much a given as a Browns fan.
That does not preclude however our ability and oppertunity to voice our opinions on how we feel improvements can be made. It does not prevent us from debating and discussing our opinions on certain players.
As a matter of fact, message boards do precisely that. How much fun would this be if we all sat around a campfire singing kumbaya?

So just because you havent been around this forum for a long time your opinion is not valid? I dont know why you took such offense to my post Pitdawg. Perhaps its because you think I am a supporter of Anderson and it is your nature to jump on anyone who supports D.A. However, if you read my earlier post you would see I am a B.Q. supporter. Therefore, I'm not sure why you were so offended by my post. I simply said root for the Browns to those starting another BQ/DA thread. Which I dont believe was you who began to start that conversation. Hence leading me to ask why you took such offense to my post.

"Name one quarterback in the new era whom you have cheered for?"
Actually I've been very consistent and have cheered for the Starting QB every year...When it was Couch I backed him making enemies of the Couch haters. When it was Holcomb I back him making enemies of the Couch lovers. When it was Garcia I backed him...When it was Dilfer, Frye and DA - they were named our starter (not an ongoing competition) I backed them including DA named the starter last season.
Just like I'll back BQ...technically I think BQ has the best prospects to become a Franchise QB so that we can put an end to the revolving door.
JMHO...btw I do like your name...and meaning behind it. But not a good way to start with a holier than thou attitude.

ah ...ok. Ya know, I'm an ex-republican independent who voted democrat and I find that very offensive. This statement embodies the problem with the Republican Party... it's half-witted, childlike, irresponsible and lacks substance.
Furthermore, Kumbaya singing tree huggers are a lot more fun than the racist, chauvinistic, fear mongering, self-centered, bible thumping dolts at the Republican convention.
And I don't really like Dems either. So let's leave our politics out of it okay...

I am sorry for being the first person to mention DA. This whole thread is typical crap. Nobody says anything bad about a QB but that doesn't start a rush of posts defending or belittling. This new guy didn't say squat yet he is being jumped on. He is right about his generalizations...It is true for every NFL city. The most popular player is the backup QB if the team struggles at all.

He was, until he stunk it up week after week after week, IMO. And, I'm not even sure the outcry was against him personally as much as the coaches for not taking him out of games. We had another QB -- one we knew nothing about -- just sitting there. One that may have done better, but could have done worse. So, what does it hurt to try him out? I'm pretty sure that was the issue all along for most fans. I kind of feel sorry for Anderson. He's lost something in his game, if he ever really had it in the first place. Reminds me of those singers on American Idol that really think they can sing.
Anyway, as long as we have both of those guys on this team, I don't think either one will ever get full support from most fans. JMO.

Anyway nameonwhatever, the reason you are getting called out is that your post was a load of crap. It doesn't matter how long you've been posting or who you are, you'll get called out for things like that around here.....of course, I'm sure you know that from all the reading you've done here.

Part of my point is starting to come out. No matter who is the quarterback, regardless of personal preference, we all want to see them win.
I was just trying to defer another BQ/DA thread. Like Pittdawg and many others have said, this site is for sharing our opinions on the Browns, which is great. But everytime a BQ/DA thread starts we all lose sight that we are cheering towards the same goal here. And our opinions turn into attacks towards people who support the other quarterback. I was just trying to swing us away from that by saying lets just cheer for who they put out there.
I want to apologize for coming off as arrogant as I am not. I just am passionate about our Browns and sometimes that gets the best of all of us.
In times like these, Hal Lebovitz would remind us we didn't have a team for four years.

IMHO, The quarterback gets too much credit when you win, and to much blame when the team loses. The backup quarterback is the favorite player of any losing team.

Just a couple of things.
1. too much credit bad or good for the QB...maybe as it truly is a team sport but no other player has the swing of balance of power as the QB.
2. I also am a firm believer that the team that succeeds in the air game on both planes of field OFFENSE n DEFENSE will win - in most cases - nothings 100%
3. Because of #2...there is a premium in the NFL to obtain Franchise positions. QB...Corner Back... Pass Rusher... Left Tackle - Rarity is there so that achieving superiority in these position break the balance of PARITY in the NFL. If you notice all of them have to do with the AIR GAME.
4. The way I fandom and treat the QB position...In the off-season any and all QBs are fair game for discussion positive and negatively. Who should start and why...who shouldn't. I don't class this as bashing but simply off season discussion. This includes Pre-season games...upto the Season opener.
Once the season starts and we have a clear cut STARTER named. I stop dissecting the QB situation and turn to full support for our starter. I will state on a game to game basis exactly WHAT I SAW which would include the QBs performance but its pretty accurate and for the most part won't tilt to a bias.
5. But what I have found is that everyone is an individual and chooses their way to show their Fandom. But almost to a POSTER - no matter their style, even you CrazyOtto... They love the Browns with our their Football Hearts. And for that I have a kinship with them and come to the boards.
But here and we are a smaller band of brethren than on the Browns Chat board - there should be more of a focus on PURE FOOTBALL discussion. If you got an opinion. Back it up with Football. If you don't you will lose credibility on the discussion.
As always...JMHO! Welcome and enjoy the board

I agree and have said so for a long time.
The old adage about having to run the ball and stop the run is just that...the old adage.
In todays NFL, the team that throws it the best and stops the other team from throwing it wins.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Actually Peen its nothing new. Even way back in the 50's during our Dynasty football, historians have credit our Superiority in the Air game to be the difference maker.
49ers dynasty in the 80's...Air Superiority.
Steelers in the 70's Air Superiority.
Dallas' in the 90's Air Superiority.
Pats? Eagles who never got the Championship but to the doorstep and opportunity?
Even the two teams we see vying for the Championship. Air Superiority.

I said it before, and I'll say it again.
The only reason this thread was started was because Brady Quinn was on the Dan Patrick radio show plugging a Pedigree dog food commercial.
Then somehow it turned into a QB controversy, then it turned into just 100% complete madness. This is crazy.

So just because you havent been around this forum for a long time your opinion is not valid?
How long you've been here has zero to do with it. Unless of course you "act like" you've been here forever making ASSumptions based on nothing. Let's see how "valid" your "opinion" is, shall we?
Firstly, you say "you guys" should support "whoever is playing" at any given time. Who are "you guys"?
Because the vast majority I do know on here, do root for the Browns to win every week and for each and every player to perform well. So who are these mythical "you guys" you speak of?
Then, when asked that question, you say you have "seen people at games boo DA".
What does that have to do with anybody on this board? Do you have ANY idea of the population of Cleveland, Youngstown, Akron, Canton and surrounding suburbs? Are you saying because you saw "some fans boo at DA", that out of those you saw, some of them post here?
Is that your idea of "validity"?
Quote:
I dont know why you took such offense to my post Pitdawg. Perhaps its because you think I am a supporter of Anderson and it is your nature to jump on anyone who supports D.A. However, if you read my earlier post you would see I am a B.Q. supporter. Therefore, I'm not sure why you were so offended by my post.
Which QB you do or don't support has zero to do with this.

It's simply that you are so off base with your ASSumptions of the make-up of this message board that it's laughable. We DO root for whoever is playing to do well. And nobody in this thread suggested otherwise before you jumped on your pervebial soap box. And me, offended?
Not quite. It falls more into the "barely amused" category. Somebody making off the wall comments in a crowd of people they know nothing about. That are so far off the mark that it's rather amusing.
Quote:
I simply said root for the Browns to those starting another BQ/DA thread. Which I dont believe was you who began to start that conversation. Hence leading me to ask why you took such offense to my post.
I didn't take offense. I don't believe ANY of my response to you has been about either QB has it? Once? Nope!
It's about trying to tell us we should root for whoever is playing. Which is something we already do. But we do debate who we think is better. We debate why we feel that way.
In case you missed it, that's pretty much the very FUNCTION of a "Pure Football Forum". To debate and discuss football. We are all Browns fans. Well, accept for Kristy, Hack and a few others........

.......But in case you wondered, and since you seem to be SOOOOOO concerned, we all DO root for all of our starters to play well every week. And we were doing it LONG before you graced us with your presence. That's why I found your uhm, uh, message so far off the mark.
The problem being, you don't walk into a room full of strangers and start lecturing them about doing something that all of them do, and some have done for decades.
And that would work the same if you wanted Barney Rubble as our QB.

Sorry, just picking up where we left off yesterday in my previous post.

That's cool. I just want you to know, some, including myself, do get a tad touchy when people even suggest that our debates interefere with us supporting our "team".
We support and root for them ALL. But if we see things going astray, we are quick to compare notes and try to figure out what the problem is.
Why? We are........ Quote:

"WHAT???????????????????????????????????????????
Don't even start...I'll wipe your butt in this argument...just the fact you remotely suggested the 49ers as a case in your point tells me you ain't got a leg to stand on
But you forget this argument of Superiority is a TWO WAY STREET.
Not only is it about the Offense its about the Defense also.
Pats..you lose...yeah I know its their Running game come on they didn't have a whisper of a running game their first two Championships.
Eagles...lol ya joking I mean at least talk to me of the Ravens in 2000 but you are trying to make a claim for the EAGLES???
49ers...again you are kidding me.
And remember it doesn't mean you don't have a running game or run defense. But controlling that part of the game won't win you the Championship as much as if you control the Air Game.
And you will find an exception. I think the Raiders and Marcus Allen it was the running game and a terrific individual effort winning that championship.
Also the Redskins with Riggins more than any that year.
An argument could be made of Csonka, Kick and Morris with Miami...but again if you study real hard in all those cases...they still controlled the AIR GAME which made the difference. And especially on Defense.
JMHO but I already made a thread on this before. As I think Banks of SI???? not sure had a real nice article (more like a short story) on He controls the air game Controls the Championship. He goes into it in detail.
JMHMemory but ever since reading that - I have watch and deciphered games more closely.
btw - I see you didn't even come close to what Everyone who is Anyone in the NFL will covet keys to building a Dynasty....and they all are centered on the AIR GAME.
QB, LT, CB and Pass Rusher.
The only thing I've heard that you could bring to the table is I've read several football people talk about up the middle being important on the Defense. But for the most part The keys to beating PARITY are in those positions listed above.

Don't even go there with the run n shoot. I never once said the team that PASSES THE MOST WINS...I don't care if you just pass 20 times. What I'm say is that you connect on 15 and get 2 TDs you will win. You connect 10 and get -0- TDs and maybe get an INT in there you lose.
Don't you dare misinterpret me stating that YOU DON'T HAVE TO RUN ALL YOU NEED IS PASS. Not what I'm saying at all. You can control the ground game and fail in the Air game and you will most likely LOSE.
You can Lose the Ground game but Control the Air game and you most likely will WIN!
Yes, I did say that. But the fact that you went and took my best case studies... PATS, EAGLES and 49ers and tried to suggest it ain't so was funny. Them's my Poster Boys
JMHTheory
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

I think your best argument might be the 2007 Minnesota Vikings.

This goes back to my original post. I did not mention anyone here specifically or the boards for that matter. I was generalizing Cleveland. I did not say I have seen fans boo D.A. My quote was something along the lines of I have seen this town boo every quarterback we have had in the new era. Nothing about D.A. Check the post.
I wasn't trying to come in and boss anyone around or lecture at all and I made bad use of two words: "you guys". I even said in a later response to you I was just generalizing the city, as you pointed out lots of people in the Greater Cleveland area attend the games. I really feel like this went on for way more than it honesltly needed to. I was just trying to make a point that we should cheer on the Browns, which you have proved to be a mute point.
I agree that a football forum is for just what you_said. To discuss and argue our different opinions on the game and how we feel improvements could be made. I completely agree. The thing that led me to post was people just ripping into one another everytime a DA/BQ thread starts on the sole basis of what quarterback they support with no football talk. Just an attack on the other poster with no football to back their points. It's that woe is me attitude.."Ah, they'll just boo the next poor kid that gets his shot too." I was saying lets support him. Like I said you proved my point to be a mute one, we all cheer on the Browns.
In times like these, Hal Lebovitz would remind us we didn't have a team for four years.
