Dude, I live on Tamarac right off LSB and my whole house shook. It freaked us out and I thought we had an earthquake till I smelled the smoke. I had to run up to CVS before they closed and there was a ton of smoke and safety vehicles lined up LakeShore.
I have a police scanner and they called Lifeflight for 3 runs I couldn't get near the house but the cop I talked to said the house is a pile of rubble

Some early images. Channel 3's reports sound a little better but I don't know where they got their info from b/c I guess 2 of the people are hurt very seriously It says everyone got out on this report, but I did just hear Lifeflight taking off for Metro.
Eastlake -- A house reportedly exploded Wednesday night on Lakeshore Boulevard near the Willoughby border by Lost Nation Road.
Everyone is believed to have gotten out of the house, but reports indicated there are injuries that will require some to be taken to the hospital.
It is not known how many were in the home and how many were injured.
Officials are calling for mutual aid from Eastlake, Wickliffe, Mentor and Mentor-on-the-Lake, among others.
That is what I am thinking but the fire dept isn't saying much on the scanner about cause right now.
I seriously was freaked out b/c it sounded like a bomb went off and it shook my entire place. I am less than a 1/4 of a mile from where this happened and it set off car alarms all over the neighborhood it was that strong.
I just pray everyone is going to be OK.
**I guess the owners were elderly and in bad shape right now.

I thought you lived pretty close to where it happened. I live off of Reeves and it felt like someone ran into my house with their car, but no one else here felt it. It felt different then when I felt an earthquake last year, but that's what I thought it was. My buddy who lives by Lake Catholic texted me to see if I felt the house shake so I knew it had to be something weird. Hopefully everyone's Ok...

At first I didn't know what the hell just happened and all I could think of was a quick quake, but it was also loud as hell so I knew something exploded. My wife thought a plow hit our building or something b/c it really was so strong it felt like the building moved,,just imagine being there or next door
Yes king my gas is working.
The news is all over this now and there is nothing left of the place.

I am in Mentor on the Lake, and I felt it. My whole house shook, and I thought a car or something ran into it. From what I heard on the news there was an 80 y/o couple inside and they both survived, but were life flighted to a hospital. Their neighbors windows across the street were completely blown out, and there is nothing left of the house...pretty scary
Thanks NaTaS "In the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope."
Quote: That must of been one hell of an explosion to feel it in neighboring cities.
I wonder what happened.
Probably a gas explosion....some gas logs started leaking or something like that.
A boiler can do that, but if they are on steam heat, most home boilers aren't large enough to cause something that is felt miles away...and lots has to go wrong with a boiler to blow up...they usually have several check valves that will blow before the whole thing turns into a bomb.
Then again....maybe there were some bomb builders living in there...a quick check of the remains would detect that pretty quick.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
Nah, no bomb. Though they haven't said officially what caused it these people were in their 80's, so most likely it was natural gas. The explosion was so loud they heard it all the way in Chesterland, which is in the next county. I mean I am not even a block away and it felt like our building moved off the foundation it rocked it so hard.

A classmate of mine's house was completely exploded due to a gas leak a few years ago. Luckily no one was home at the time. It sounds a lot like this. There was nothing left.
That's terrible. But based on what you guys said, I'm surprised anyone at ground zero survived this at all. I feel bad for the hubby surviving and his wife dieing. Seems it would be a miracle anyone survived. I'm really curious to know what caused this.
That's right Lee I live within walking distance of Downtown Willoughby, I like this city alot, its got pretty good schools great rec services, and I can afford to live here too! I have a soft spot for the elderly people who don't have anyone to come in and check on them once in a while, my mom lives in Euclid and I get over there 3-4 times a week to make sure things are OK, she doesn't drive "thank God" and needs re-suppling, but now my brother is living with her, due to a recent divorce. According to the News Herald the prime suspect is the natural gas . My wife drove by the house last night and said there's nothing but red tape around a pile of rubble.
