That's one well spoken individual...
Thought for sure he'd speak broken english with that name...I'm impressed...
One thing he said has me thinkin'...
What did Mangini do in NY???...Took a CB in Revis at 14...
What's available at 5 this year in CB's???...Jenkins...
Aso speaks of Ryan pretty highly...Ryan pretty much Manned-Up ASO and disguised the rest of the D...
With Ryan ultimately being able to do that...And Mangini taking a CB at 14...Does this bode for a Jenkins at 5???...Or do we and CAN we do it with Wright???
Go Browns!!!

Saw a mock draft that had us picking Jenkins. The thing about this particular mock that caught my attention was the reasoning behind the pick. Their reason for picking Jenkins was that with Ryan as our DC and the move to an aggressive blitzing deffense that the Browns would need a Cb who could stand alone on an island.
I still think upgrading LB is more important for our defense but this was an interesting take. Anyway if we could get Asomugha that would be a great boost to our defense.

One reason I always liked this guy is that, with his contract with Nike, he made them put in that they would supply his high school team with all their equipment.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

Where did you see that Ryan was going to run an "aggressive, blitzing defense?" My understanding of his time in Oakland was that he rarely blitzed. Mangini may have a different philosophy but I don't think that Ryan has historically run blitzing defenses.
As far as the Jenkins pick, I REALLY hope this doesn't happen. I'd much rather see Curry at that pick, if available.
Keep in mind that in Mangini's first draft he took D'Brick & Mangold with his first two picks so who knows what direction they will go?

Ryan's philosophy is to bring pressure. He was handcuffed in Oakland by Davis sticking his nose in and restricting what Ryan could do with schemes.

That was just what the mock draft said. I hadn't heard anything one way or the other.

Oh, I know. I've seen mocks where we've gotten Jenkins, Beanie Wells, Curry, Brown and even Moreno. I'm sure a lot will change between now and April. Right now, Jenkins is a reach at #5.

I think Jenkins and Wright would be a great combination. That is if we have a good DB coach that will work with Wright exclusively. I still think EW can be that shut down corner that we desparately need to develop. Throw in Jenkins at the 5th pick and we don't need to spend the FA money on Nnamdi Asomugha. We can use our money towards a good veteran OLB like Suggs and ILB is pretty deep in this year's draft.

Id rather sign Nnamdi Asomugha, and draft Curry at number 5. Im not so sure our CB's are as bad as they looked last year. If we had any kind of pass rush they wouldnt have been exposed the way they was. The best corner in the leauge cannot cover someone for 10 seconds every play....I think Wright and Macdonald are very servicable...get us a legit pass rush and see these two shine!

Upgrading our LB's is very important. That's why we should draft Rey Maualuga with the 5th pick and get a guy like Karlos Dansby in free agency. Our defense will be significantly better by adding Asomugha, Maualuga and Dansby in the offseason.

Just to set the record straight on my position I am not advocating Jenkins at #5. I just thought the logic that one mock offered as to why he would be a good pick for us was interesting. Right now I have my wish list at #5 is:
Curry E. Brown Maualuga Jenkins

In that order? Jenkins is on your list yet you just said you weren't advocating him for the 5th pick.? Just giving you ...

Yes in that order. I meant to number that list. I am not against Jenkins, I just like the other guys better and those guys fit a bigger need in my mind.
Actually I would # them:
1a - Curry 1b - Brown 2 - Maualuga 3 - Jenkins
And I number Curry and Brown 1a and 1b because I keep going back and forth between the two.
And I don't mind you giving me a little ...

I think FA will tell it all.......If we were so lucky as to get Asomugha, then we definitely go Curry / Brown in the 5th......if we were to get Crowder in FA, then I might consider Jenkins just because DB isn't near as strong in the draft as LB's are....I'm curious as to what Asomugha will command in FA......what did Champ sign for.....????

Forget Bailey...Better use the Clements contract...

Drayton Florence...Not sure...Needs a trade and we don't have squat as it is...
Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver says his team will not be big spenders on the free agent market this offseason. Last year's free agent megabusts Drayton Florence and Jerry Porter have the club changing direction. Porter was hurt all year and Florence was so bad the Jags had to move Brian Williams from safety to corner to get him off the field. Source: jaguars.com
3/1/2008: Signed a six-year, $36.1 million contract. The deal contains $13 million guaranteed, including a $3 million signing bonus and a $5 million first-year roster bonus. 2009: $1.5 million (+ $2.5 million roster bonus), 2010: $4.9 million, 2011-2013: $5.9 million, 2014: Free Agent

I have no idea where you got that contract info, but it is wrong.
Nnamdi was franchise tagged last year and most likely will get the tag again this year.

And that was two years ago. It won't just be a little more either. Figure a 8-10% increase for draft picks per year...and you might see why Nnamdi won't be a Cleveland Brown in 2009. Heck, I still think Al Davis uses the franchise tag on him again anyway.

So if Oakland franchise's him, then we would have to give them a 1st round pick at least to get him, huh...???? If that is the case, then screw that.......go try for Dunta or maybe make some moves in the draft so you could get a good DB............

Aaron Curry all the way! We need to upgrade our LBing corp more than anything. We may not have a shutdown corner but Wright is adequate and provided Holly comes back we won't be as thin at CB as we were last year. Sorry all you Buckeye homers, but I want the bpa for our system not a home town boy just because he's just that.
And the next head coach is ......

Our corners were not getting beat late in the year, in fact both were bright spots as the season closed. Our secondary played pretty good considering the complete futiliy of our pass rush.
I will vomit if spend $100 million on a cornerback when that money could go get Peppers and Bart Scott or Channing Crowder.
BTW, the worst player in the secondary is Sean Jones, not one of the corners. Move Pool to SS, get a FS, we'll be fine! Look at our D's best games, it was when Pool was at SS and Adams at FS because Sean Jones was out.
JMHO.

Jenkins isn't exactly a reach at #5.
That said, and I'm a Buckeye fan, I could only stomach taking Jenkins at #5 if both Curry and Brown were off the board.

I have read that if Jenkins can be a shutdown corner, that can help our pass rush that much more. Frankly, I wouldn't unbelievably surprised if we took him, especially if we had him ranked as the BPA left over.
That being said, I am pushing (as much as one can a full 2+ months before the draft) for either Curry or Brown.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism
