Roster bonuses also are amortised for the remaining term of the contract, just as any performance bonus would be. The entire bonus won;t count against this year's cap .... jist a pro-rated portion of it.

Diam...Williams is only there due to size of RB...

Some of these guys including Williams/Lewis would deplete certain units..Wright's a FA too...

Ytown...Good point about Roster Bonuses...

First is this one...

The non-guaranteed amount of any salary advance, off-season workout bonus, off-season roster bonus, or off-season reporting bonus is included in the team’s salary in the year it was earned. These bonuses cannot be prorated. “Guaranteed” refers to those bonuses that are fully guaranteed–regardless of skill, injury or termination of the contract. (Which of those RB's are Guaranteed? That last sentence is grey...And appears to be included in NO PRO-RATE...Guaranteed or not)...

Then comes this one since this is the LAST Capped Year...

Contracts signed, renegotiated, or extended in the final capped year (This affects 2009 FA Signings) are governed by a somewhat special set of rules if the signing bonus is to be paid to the player in the final capped season (2009). In this situation, a salary advance that the player is not obligated to repay is considered a signing bonus. Any off-season workout bonus that calls for a player to participate in less than thirty-two days of the team’s program is also considered a signing bonus. Finally, all off-season reporting and roster bonuses are considered signing bonuses.

(This last statement indicates any RB paid in 2009 (Last Capped Year) IS PRO-RATED...But the entire paragraph is referring to contracts SIGNED IN THE LAST CAPPED YEAR 2009...Example...Haynesworth signs on Feb 28th with xxx team...Gets a 10M SB which is Pro-Rated...But also gets a May 1st 5M Roster Bonus...This also gets Pro-Rated...

That last sentence when contained in that last paragraph (ALL Off Season Reporting and Roster Bonuses are considered Signing Bonuses...Therefore Pro-Rated...The GREY area is does that include ANY contract signed in ANY PREVIOUS YEAR ALSO...Or just contracts signed or extended in 2009...)

In Anderson's case...If that means ALL RB's regardless of year contract was signed are Pro-Rated...Then this 5M RB he's due will affect his Cap Hit in 2009 if he's KEPT (2.5M of it is 09 hit...Not all 5M of it...And when traded...ALL 5M of it accelerates to 09's hit along with the 4.66M of remaining 2 yrs of SB)

I bet this would change our indicated 17M of available cap space...Because I'd bet they figured these RB's as they would normally be treated as NOT PRO-RATED and therefore the entire RB goes on that years hit...This could explain why Savage said we'd have 25-30M in Space in 2009...

If they've added all 5M of DA's RB...It's only 2.5M of hit
If they added all 6M of Williams...It's only 1.2M (5 yrs left)
Lewis's 4M is only 2M

There's almost 10M right there which would take us to 27M...

BTW...For anyone wondering how to figure what's Guaranteed versus NOT...This is how u do it...Take Williams contract...

2/29/2008: Signed a six-year, $38.6 million contract. The deal contains $16.3 million guaranteed, including a $6.5 million signing bonus, a $1.5 million first-year roster bonus, and annual $100,000 workout bonuses. 2009: $1.7 million (+ $6 million roster bonus), 2010: $4.2 million (+ $1.7 million roster bonus), 2011-2012: $4.9 million, 2013: $5.4 million, 2014: Free Agent. Cap charges: $8.83 million (2009), $8.283 million (2010).

16.3M Guaranteed...Add the SB..RB's...Workout Bonuses (6yrs)...They =16.3M...ALL of his Bonuses are Guaranteed...If the number is HIGHER than the guaranteed number u subtract certain Bonuses to get to the Guaranteed number...It's pretty accurate...

I think Williams and Lewis will be here...Stallworthless should be the first one to go.
If they let Peek go(who doesn't see the field) why keep him around?

Exactly. I would think one of the first orders of business would be to offer Stallworth the chance to prove he can play, under a new contract. Build incentives into it to recoup some cash. Either that, or walk. And good luck finding a better deal.

Yep, I agree....he just isn't worth that much any more...let alone the $5 mill or what ever he is due......we could sign a relly good player with that kind of money....someone that could start and produce......

Ya .. I know ... thats why I brought it up ... U wanted to create more cap room to help fill our existing holes ... problem was that in order to create that cap room u were also creating more holes to fill ... *L* ...

thats the part that made no sense to me .... well that and I think letting Williams go for any reason would be way to pre-mature at this point ..

Why?
He doesn't stay healthy long enough to make a difference..

Asked the Commish and the response was "Any RB due in 2009 from a PREVIOUS Contract is NOT PRO-RATED"...ALL of it hits 09's cap...
