Just trying to get some opinions...
Now that Tomlin is the Steelers HC, its probably fair to think Grimm might want to leave or Tomlin may not even retain him. Any chance the Browns get him? It looks as if Davidson was gone anyways, but I think it would be huge if we got Grimm. Thoughts?

The only position he would be interested in is head coach, and it isn't going to happen.
In case you haven't been around, the Browns have a new offensive coordinator already.

If we give him enough money and offer him the assistant head coach/ line coach job maybe we would have a shot.

I'm not sure it would work Die Hard. But the asst. HC and a BIG FAT CHECK are worth a try IMO!
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

What do the Steelers know about Grimm, were over looking, I'm not saying he's not worth a look into, but what is keeping teams from hiring him, not ready maybe, Why isnt he being taken to Arizona with Wiesenhunt, why was he passed over for the steeler's job, something is holding him back, do we want him for his name and past playing accomplishments, or is he really done something coaching wise to make most of us on this web site want him in Cleveland, Just wondering.....what it is?

its not like lerner doesn't have the money, unless he spent it all on soccer. on the other hand, if the money you would have to offer him would cause dissent among the ranks would it be worth it? remember rac is one of the lowest paid coaches, so, it stands to reason that the rest of the coaching staff would be on the same pay curve

I guess I insinuated it but did not clarify it... I was thinking of Grimm as an OLine coach, not a head coach for us. He has done a great job there and if he is not retained there, I would love to see him as our OL coach.

Here is the word on Grimms status.
He is still under contract for this year by the Steelers....It is rumored that he will ask to be let out of his contract rather than return as A. HC and line coach....and that the Rooneys will oblige...Word out of AZ is that Whiz is just waiting to see who Tomlin keeps and who he lets go...then plans to get all the let go coaches....
I would not be surprised to see Grimm in AZ
EDIT::: Grimm has already asked for and been granted his release. HACK

I don't think Grimm will be coming to Cleveland anytime soon.. Granted, he's a heck of a coach and all, but I'm betting he's looking for more responsibility than OL Coach....

Wow, the Steelers lost a lot of leadership this offseason. I wonder what effect this will have on the upcoming season. Good for Grimm, I guess. Arizona is a wasteland of football talent. As bad as they are, I'd take them over what we have. Ugh!

Does anyone know if Whis is going to run the offense for the cards? He hasnt hired an OC yet and im suprised that he didnt give his buddy Grimm the job but gave him assist HC O line, which yea its his specialty but I found it a little odd.

The Steelers struggled this year with thoise guys. Without them I hope they end up below us.
I think the injuries to Ben hurt more than anyone knew.

Don't see him taking anything that we can offer - but he seems like a great coach.

I like the part where he said he 'doesn't mind riding shotgun'.
Classy comment.

I don't care what anyone says here, but, this is the guy that could have helped turn our O around in no time, providing if he had had a say in the draft. JMHO

I'll ask you the same question I asked someone else a few days ago.
Why do think that? And why do you state it so matter of factly?
I'm not saying you're wrong, but I find it interesting the Steelers were willing to part ways with him yet we have so many here who want him so bad.

His pedigree would be one reason, being coached by one to the best OL coaches by the name of Joe Bugel. He was also coached by Jim Hanifan, another legendary OL coach for two years with the Skins. And from all this great coaching, he's managed to win 3 super bowl rings, was a pro bowler 4 times, member of 1980s All NFL team and voted one of the 70 greatest Redskins to play the game.
Now if can show me one guy who has that kind of experience currently coaching an OL, let me know, because I can't think of one.....at least not at the top of head. The only guy I can think of as a peer is Jim McNally, formerly of the New York Giants and now OL coach for the Buffalo Bills. Maybe we should include Gibbs when he coached the Broncos also.
In 1982 the "Hog Line" which consisted of May, Grimm, Bostic, Jacoby, and Starke and deemed one of the five best OL in NFL history, that just dominated the LOS. Just ask John Riggins, RB or Joe Theisman, QB for the Redskins. I always thought like a few others on the board that this game was and still is basically blocking and tackling, without those all the rest of the skills don't mean diddley what.
Russ is old school, and I attributed the past off year his line had was to the QB situation and new OC. You don't see too many stupid penalties by OL coached by Russ Grimm. Also, I loved his toughness, he was never one to talk it, but he sure showed it in the way he played the game.
I wouldn't say he was a great innovator as say Gibbs of the Broncos was, but just a fundamentalist when it came to the finer aspects of learning the basics and principles of being a NFL lineman. JMHO

I queried this in another thread also, he's a hot commodity on this board for some reason but after numerous interviews for higher positions the last 2 years he's yet to rise above O line coach. JMH? (< to steal an Eotab line )

Stabber, everything you say is absolutly true,,,, but with this pedigree,, we should ask why are so many teams passing on him as either a HC or OC.. The job he just got in AZ is the same title he had in Pittsburgh.. heck, even the Steelers passed on him.... I just wonder why that is.
granted, it could just be the way he comes across in interviews,, perhaps that's why he hasn't moved up,,,, But I just wonder?

We can only speculate, but his communication skills might not be up to standards and, also he might be perceived by owners as too much of a "player type" guy. Who knows. I'm sure someday his time will come if it is meant to be, Damon.
I'm not saying that I think he deserves a chance because he was a great lineman. To use an anology, if Russ was playing baseball, I see him only at one position and that's the toughest one at catcher. And to expand this idea, I've always felt catchers usually made the best managers in baseball. JMHO
