Police cite Steelers kicker for restroom tantrum
By JOE MANDAK, Associated Press Writer

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed is in trouble with the police over some towels, but not the Terrible kind waved by his fans.

Pennsylvania state police say Reed threw a temper tantrum at a Sheetz convenience store in New Alexandria, a tiny borough about 35 miles east of Pittsburgh, because its restroom didn’t have any towels.

Reed has been cited for disorderly conduct and criminal mischief, offenses similar to traffic tickets that carry a maximum fine of $300 and 90 days in jail each. Police said he broke the towel dispenser then used profane language to an employee and also outside the store.

“Reed caused damage to a towel dispenser as he was infuriated at the fact that there were no towels in it,” according to a news release by Trooper Shawn Askins, who issued the citations. The incident occurred Saturday about 2:50 a.m.

A message left on an answering machine at Reed’s home was not immediately returned.

Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said the team wouldn’t have any immediate comment.

“We’re still gathering information right now,” Lockett said Saturday.

Reed made 27 of 31 field goals and 36 of 37 PATs for 117 points in his seventh season with the Steelers, which was capped by Pittsburgh’s 27-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl.

Reed has made nearly 83 percent of his field goals (162 of 196) and scored 733 points for the Steelers in his career.

At that time of night(or morning) I would guess most likely alcohol was a factor.

I used to work with Jeff Reed's uncle, I will have to give him a call and see what he knows about it.

Yeah, I think the whole paragraph proves that.

I highly doubt that a police officer from around Pittsburgh would let a player slide and get away with a DUI

If I were the judge I'd give him the max punishiment and suspend 75 days of jail time, I know $300 means nothing to him, lock the idiot up, maybe he'll learn a lesson.

I believe I have been at that particular Sheetz early one mourning. If Reed actually used the facilities and then washed his hands,he has much more intestinal fortitude than .
The stench made it impossible to relieve myself inside.

Personally, I would also trump up some contempt charges and put him away for life. Well maybe not life, but at least until his career would be over.

Sheetz normally have the Xlerator hand dryers...the most powerful hand dryers known to man.

they are the only hand dryer in the world that I like to use...as it actually does work.

I normally walk out of their calm knowing that the Xlerator has done it job...and done it well.

Let's get serious. - There's no way this guy was that mad about a towel dispenser. What was he really mad about?

- It's only a matter of time before this ends up in the smack shack.

Yeah, I'll probably send it there.

The guy just looks like an idiot.

I know you can't always judge a book by it's cover, but he just looks like an attention-seeking idiot. The guy has this stupid 'fro for his '07 season pic, then I just saw him recently with some other stupid "look at me" hairdo. He just looks like a guy who you'd like to punch in the face.

Hooters in Fort Myers has this the Dyson Airblade

This thing works great...air jets a curtain from front and back, dip you hands in, and slowly raise them out, you have completely dry hand in about 6 seconds, front and back.

It will be interesting to see if Goodell suspends him. An alcohol related incident involing the police. I would think so. But maybe Goodell will cut him some slack because he plays for Goddells boss, I mean the Rooneys.

He was a special guest at a bar about 15 miles from where I live. My sister was there and said that he wasn't the one driving, he showed up with 3 or 4 other guys.

Steelers' Reed Pleads Guilty To Disorderly Conduct
PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP)

Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed has pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and criminal mischief after police say he broke a towel dispenser in a convenience store.

Reed pleaded guilty to the two summary offenses, which are similar to traffic tickets, on Friday. He'll be fined $543.50.

Police say Reed was infuriated Feb. 14 at a Sheetz convenience store in New Alexandria, Westmoreland County, because its restroom didn't have any towels.

According to authorities, he broke the dispenser then used profane language to an employee and also outside the store.

Funny, that's what I was thinking. Gooddell sure was hard on Santonio for his possession of "blunts". The Rooney's are always talked about being a class act, yet their players somehow always avoid suspension. I remember a steeler player back in the 70's I think, that actually shat at a police helicopter, the Rooneys made it go away.

Holmes admitted to the arresting officer that he had not smoked any that night, but a few days earlier did. Yet, no suspension or anything from the league. The charges were dropped, but he still had the weed, and he still admitted to smoking it. I'm sure the Rooneys money fixed that too.
