Not to be a complete moron, but that carries over to the whole show,...?? The homecourt, I mean.

So if you have the best record, and lose in an earlier round, the homecourt goes to the 'next' best record remaining ??

Begging the question--I love these types of trivia-- who is the lowest seed ever to take the homecourt into The NBA Finals,....??

It's probably not that low a seed,...AND I DO NOT know this answer,....

yes, the finals homecourt is given to the better team. not by seed.

the thing with the nba, is that they don't re-seed (and people have been begging for a change)

the winner of the 1-8, plays the winner of the 4-5, even if the 7 seed beats the 2...

to be honest i have no idea who the lowest seed to make the finals is...

if i had to guess, i'd say one of the nets teams earlier this decade.

The Rockets were the 6 seed when they won it in 95 and the Knicks made it to the finals as the 8 seed in the strike year.

No, there is no re-seeding in the NBA. In the finals, the team with the better record holds home court. So if the Lakers are a 1 seed and the Cavs the two seed. We make it to the finals having the better record, and would have home court.

At least, I think that's how it works out.

I understand no re-seeding,...(wrong word,....)

The question remains,...were the Rockets the highest seed remaining in 95,...did they have homecourt advantage ??

My guess is not,.....

Sources: Smith will sign with Cavs

Joe Smith has informed the Cleveland Cavaliers that he plans to sign with them after clearing waivers Wednesday, according to NBA front-office sources

Word of Smith's commitment began to spread Tuesday night, but the Cavs have been the heavy favorites to land the No. 1 overall pick from the 1995 draft since Smith was waived Sunday night by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Cleveland has nearly $3.5 million of its midlevel salary-cap exception remaining to offer Smith as well as a hole in its frontcourt rotation after Ben Wallace's injury last week.

The Cavs dealt for Smith at the trading deadline in February 2008 but had to part with him over the summer in the three-way trade with Milwaukee and Oklahoma City to acquire All-Star guard Mo Williams.

Smith to Cavs; Gooden to Spurs

Forward Drew Gooden has committed to sign with the San Antonio Spurs after he clears waivers Wednesday morning, two league executives said Tuesday evening.

Gooden was released by the Sacramento Kings late Sunday, making him eligible to play for another team during the playoffs. The Spurs expect to sign Gooden for about $1.5 million, the remainder of their midlevel exception. The contract keeps the team below the NBA’s luxury-tax threshold.

Gooden’s imminent signing also comes as the Cleveland Cavaliers have reached agreement with forward Joe Smith, an Eastern Conference executive said.

Gooden averaged 13.1 points and 8.6 rebounds in 31 games with the Chicago Bulls before he was traded to the Kings on Feb. 18. The Kings reached a buyout agreement with Gooden that saved the franchise about $1.8 million.

Gooden recently has battled a groin injury, but the Spurs are comfortable with giving him as much time as needed to heal in hopes he’ll be ready for the playoffs.

Spurs officials, who have looked for frontcourt help and tried to trade for Los Angeles Clippers center Marcus Camby, envision Gooden as a backup to Matt Bonner.

yeah, normally I would not be too worried about the Bucks, but under the circumstances, we could have a let down, especially with the big showdown on Friday ahead...Hopefully it's bizness as usual at the Q tomorrow nite!

Good to see the usual suspects still on here(and i see we have some bandwagoners)......but about the quote above......when they play @ the "Q"they bring it(Cavs). They really have that mind set "1 game @ a time"....they still in my heart and probably theirs also....should be undefeated @ home.Box out(Odom) and LeBron giving waaaay to much respect to Kobe.I'm so glad they have 14 more @ the crib......instead of the spending cash to see the Clowns, i will continue to purchase season tixs on the Cavs(4 yrs now)even in these hard days, because there is NOTHING LIKE BEING @ the "Q" WHEN THE CAVALIERS BALL!!!!

Can't wait til' the offs' start.......Go Cavs!!!!!

lakers showed interest, and there was talk of them offering smith a deal longer than this year, basically forcing the cavs to maybe offer more than they wanted to.

it never really grew legs, but the fact that it came out makes me laugh.

the cool thing is, joe will fit right in, because he was here last year

and not only that, but he has experience playing with mo in milwaukee.

seems like it's coming full circle.

gooden to the spurs, don't think that really changes anything, just making note.

it'll be like the cavs. he'll come in, score a few points, and then dissapear until the next game.

the great thing is, joe should be ready to go on friday, all the switches, doubles, and offensive sets shouldn't be that far removed from his mind.

it really couldn't have come at a better time too. we lose big ben, somehow go 3-1 on a brutal stretch, appear to be hitting our usual mike brown 3/4 of the way stride, and we add a big body down low, and he'll be in the building where he last wore a cavs jersey.

i really think if they come ready to play on friday, not only can they beat boston, but beat them soundly, after what i have seen the past 2 nights.

Gooden has his moments, both good and bad. He adds depth but isn't going to make the Spurs an .800 basketball team. Still, it is an odd year so don't count out the Spurs just yet.

We get MIL tomorrow on the second night of a back to back. Hopefully like others have said, our boys aren't looking forward to Friday.

GO CAVS!

AM I the only one that absolutely loves Austin Carr? I love his catch phrases and his analysis, plus the history with the cavs, I hope he stays forever.

Pretty much a formality now. From ESPN:

Agent: Smith agrees with Cavaliers

CLEVELAND -- Joe Smith is about to bounce back to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The veteran forward, traded last summer by the Cavs in the deal that brought them All-Star guard Mo Williams, agreed to terms Tuesday night on a one-year contract with Cleveland, his agent told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

"After careful consideration of his options, Joe has decided that the Cavs are the best fit," agent Dan Fegan told the paper.

Smith can not officially sign with the Cavaliers until he clears waivers on Wednesday. But that's the final procedural hurdle in a signing that has been expected since the 33-year-old Smith bought out his contract on Sunday with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Smith averaged 6.6 points and 4.5 rebounds in 36 games for the Thunder, but his playing time had diminished and he didn't get in any of his final eight games with the club.

He wanted to join a team for a playoff push and Cleveland, where he played 27 games last season, was Smith's first choice.

The Cavs reluctantly parted with Smith in August, when they packaged him with guard Damon Jones in a three-way deal to acquire Williams from the Milwaukee Bucks. Smith came to Cleveland before the trading deadline in 2008, and the 14-year veteran provided leadership as well as consistent play during his stay.

The prospect of getting him back excited LeBron James.

"One of the best guys, one of the best teammates I've ever had," James said Monday night in Miami.

With Ben Wallace expected to miss three more weeks with a broken leg, the 6-foot-10 Smith will give the Cavaliers needed depth up front and his playoff experience will be invaluable. Smith appeared in 13 playoff games for the Cavs last season.

Smith was the No. 1 pick in the 1995 NBA draft out of Maryland. He has also played for Golden State, Philadelphia, Minnesota, Detroit, Denver, Milwaukee and Chicago. He has averaged 11.7 points in 929 career games and appeared in 39 playoff games.

you're not the only one, although i will agree with the people that don't take to him, that he's been overusing his catch phrases lately.

still love the guy though, he's mr cavalier, and he's always been passionate, even through some very tough years.

and i know a few people who have gotten to meet him, and they all said he's as genuinely nice as he seems. he's a good guy. i think all the players really take to him too.

and yeah, he's a honk, but when things aren't going great, he's the first guy to let you know what and why they are doing things wrong.

i think he and fred blend pretty well.

Great win tonight. They could've come out flat, what with being back from the road trip and having to go to Boston on Friday. They sure came out firing on all cylinders. Really tough D down the stretch.

I got a little curious so I took a look at schedules... I wonder how Boston gets two less back to backs than we do (16 vs 18) and only one 4 in 5, which they've yet to play, where we've had three already. Following this Saturday's game versus Miami, we will have played seven games in ten days, five of them on the road. That's ridiculous.

good call.

and yes, it's really ridiculous that we play 3 sets of 4/5 to boston and los angeles' 1 each...

but like i said, it has made us stronger, 10-2 during those stretches, that is damn impressive, it doesn't even matter who you played, because teams know you're coming off the game before, or it's your 4th in 5, or 3rd in 4th... they know that and it makes them up their game because they may be able to bring more energy than you...

i heard the cavs didn't get into miami until 7am monday, and then went out and shut down the heat and wade. that's crazy.

the tough part to this season is over, we still have some tough games, we have somewhat of a tough stretch next week, but nothing brutal. this is the part where we can really rack up the wins.

looks like boston is gonna hang on. still, this team is vulnerable right now.

if delonte plays as good defensively as he has since his return, we should be ok friday... they are going to have to depend a lot on pierce and allen...

should be a fun game. boston has not played all that great since kg went down, and this is probably a game where if they won, they would gain a little more confidence.

let's remember how well they played in the very first game of the year in the garden, they had a very comfortable lead and let it go in the second half...

it was kinda typical of the old cav teams, coming out after halftime and being completely flat, but after that game, mo called himself out in front of everyone and soon after, the cavs have been arguably the best team in the nba.

i like the matchups though, lebron absolutely wore out pierce in the matchup at the q back in january, so if you stick lebron on pierce for a good portion of the game, i think delonte can hold his own with allen.

as far as down low, z can have a good game without kg there.

and the bench has gotta play better than they have. and with joe coming aboard, we'll get a boost.

should be fun, i can't wait. if we win, we should be in prime position to win the top seed in the east. and the lakers have a brutal stretch coming up, they have the same texas 2 step that we went through last week (although duncan is back and playing) so we could even be in the driver's seat for the top seed in the nba, in a week, if we play to our potential.

this team has hit their stride though, which shouldn't come as a shock, outside of last year, when the whole team got reshuffled, mike brown coached teams usually hit their peak right around now, you can look back and it's almost identical. so i think this matchup friday comes at a perfect time, even aside from boston not having garnett.

Just the kind of win I had hoped to see tonight. Solid defensively and systematic on offense.

Has anyone else noticed that LeBron is shooting around 70% from beyond the arc recently?

you could argue that a week ago in houston, lebron played the worst game of his career.

and i think it really got to him. in the past it's always been about how the guys around him aren't doing enough, that night it was about how his effort wasn't good enough, and based on what happened the following 3 games, he took it to heart.

his dumb shots have been down since last thursday... he takes the occasional heat-check 3, but if it doesn't go down, he either looks for a higher percentage shot, or looks for his teammates.

good game last night, milwaukee hung tough, but never made a serious threat.

22 games left.

Is it just me, or has Boobie really been struggling with his shooting of late?
It seems that everytime I've seen him take a shot lately it just clangs off the rim... I actually can't recall him making any shots lately.

That's great news. My biggest criticism (if any) has been when he tries to force long shots when he's cold. I don't mind the occasional long shot, but if he misses, he needs to try something else or pass to a teammate ... don't push the issue. If he's doing that now, it's great news for the team.

That's the real disappointment. I'm not sure what's happened to Gibson. If he can find that shooting touch that he had 2 years ago, we would be unstopable.

Gibson has a bum foot I think. He said it's affecting his shot. I think he should be getting more rest with Sasha back in the lineup.

it's a shame the bricks didn't buy him out earlier, i think he's too new to really tear that team apart. even come april/may, he'll still be too new to the team, if they had bought him out in like dec/jan, it would have been awesome.

even so, he's not that great and i don't understand the move.
