Maybe we can trade DA to the Jets for him?
LOL within an hour, we'll see that on PFT as a rumor...

Screw that, Anderson to the Jets for Kerry Rhodes. Straight up. If Mangini doesn't like it they can throw in Mangold too. Anyway, I'd like us to take a look at Michael Boulware. He started for two years in Seattle. I wouldn't want him as a starter, more for depth and special teams. Another player that is similar to Boulware that might be good depth is Tank Williams , he started for four seasons in Tennessee.

Those two don't really look like starters anymore to me... don't really know that, but it appears that way.

My guess is Jones is getting a big wakeup call as to what his real market value is.

i thought if we let jones go, we'd have pool go to FS which was supposed to be his natural position. wouldn't we need a starting SS then?

Pool has been playing FS, SS is his natural position, but that was held by Jones.

With no reported visits, I imagine he is.
I think we had better safety play with Adams and Pool than Pool and Jones. As someone said, Pool is a natural SS but so is Jones. When Jones was out Pool was able to slide to SS and did well.

I think that was the plan to allow him enter and see how hot he really was.
Give it a day or two for his ego to heal a bit, then sit down with him and hammer out a nice fair deal....one that protects the Browns and protects Jones by having some real performance money attached.
League leader money. Pro Bowl money. Escalators if those are met. Early out for Jones if he meets some minimums.
We can get it worked out with the guy, but I felt all along we shouldn't be the ones to start the bidding process because whenever you are the former team, it always starts out as the base or a point of ticking him off.
If some other team wants to start it, fine. Hopefully we have a good enough relationship that Jones and counsel come back to us to see if we want to up the ante.

If its not his natural position and we did well Adams and Pool, do we really want Jones back at current market value monies? It won't be a huge deal but it's not going to be small either.

If we should happen to not re-sign Jones and Adams goes elsewhere, does that increase the odds of us getting someone like Malcolm Jenkins and moving him to safety opposite Pool?
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

I would imagine that would almost seal the deal that we draft a safety high.
Either that or the Cribbs to play safety rumors have a lot more legs then we all imagined it did.

Personally, I don't want Jones back. I would much rather get a safety who is better in pass coverage. I want someone who can play deep centerfield and let Pool roam closer to the LOS a little more. I will admit I have no idea if that fits the scheme, so it is just personal preference.
In the draft I really like the safety from Alabama, Rashad Johnson. Smart, instinctive, team captain, always the last line of defense and played centerfield, called a coach on the field always able to line everyone up. He's just the type of safety I want next to pool. Smart, solid, steady, always in postion, plays the pass well. Again, it's just personal preference, but that's the type of safety I envision in our secondary. I don't want a big, hulking pseudo-linebacker, it's just not my preference.

I know he is past his prime but I would like to see a veteran with some experience back there.
How about a guy like Darren Sharper?

Sean Jones has not signed with anyone --- yet.
What happens if he does? Do we go after Jim Leonhard the safety from the Ravens?
Leonhard is 5''8" 186lbs. Jones is 6'1" 220. And we need to stop the run.
Jones was a leader in the locker room. He is a young veteran. He is the kind of player you would want to invest in. I know he wanted big dollars but nobody is throwing that money toward him.
His value is highest with us at reasonable dollars. We didn't make a move at Dawkins. So what is our plan for safety?
I try not to put a lot of stock in size and speed,...this kid must have a heart the size of Africa. (I know I bemoaned him when he was at Wisconsin.)
Anyway, if he did sign with the J-E-T-S, then this is OBE.

I'm more than positive he has had offers...
If Charlie Frye can manage to get a visit... I know Sean Jones is wanted in other camps.
I think he realy wants to stay in Cleveland... but Mangini and Kok. are being retarded right now.

Is Jermaine Philips still available? He has a similar build as Jones and can be pretty effective when healthy.

I really dont understand why we wouldnt resign Jones, it really makes no sense as he is the the best FA safety left, he's home grown, and we dont have a younger guy behind him to step in.

How? Jones sees he isn't getting anything elsewhere and we get him back for what he's worth and not a penny more.

but risk another team picking him up? I pay the extra cost to keep my starting safety.
I'm more than sure that Atlanta has been talking to him and his agent.

That's his most likely landing spot IMO, since he is from Atlanta, went to UGA, and the Falcons have a big need at safety. You're probably right.

Could be a couple of things. Maybe it's the money he wants. Maybe we want a true free safety instead of playing two strong safeties.
Maybe we're waiting for him to see his actual value and then we'll talk to him.

If they want to overpay a guy who can't cover mediocre tight ends...that's their business.
Jones had ONE good year and has sucked ever since.

Not to sound negative, or coming at you..but those stats havent done anything to get us to the playoffs, Jones is average to a notch above average and if were gonna win anything we need to have & do better, Now where are we gonna get that and would be better off keeping Jones until better arrives, well I agree with that but thats another thread....

Would they move Quintin Mikell to FS after he was 2nd team All-Pro last year? They need a replacement for Dawkins at FS, not another SS. Not sure what they are thinking here.

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/eagles/20090306_Eagles_turn_longing_eyes_to_Sean_Jones.htmlEagles turn longing eyes to Sean Jones By Bob Brookover Inquirer Staff Writer Another star wide receiver is on the free-agent market, but the Eagles apparently are more focused on finding a replacement for the recently departed Brian Dawkins. An Eagles source made it clear yesterday that the team had "no interest" in a reunion with Terrell Owens, who was released by the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles then rid themselves of an equally surly but far less talented receiver, trading Greg Lewis to the New England Patriots. The biggest news, however, was that the Eagles had pinpointed a possible replacement for Dawkins by inviting free-agent safety Sean Jones to the NovaCare Complex today. Two team sources confirmed that the Eagles were extremely interested in Jones, who turned 27 Monday. Jones, a 2004 second-round pick from Georgia, has spent his entire career with the Cleveland Browns. He emerged as a starter in 2006 and had five interceptions that season. He had five in 2007 and four more last year despite missing four games. His 14 interceptions in the last three seasons rank him third in that category among NFL safeties, behind Baltimore's Ed Reed and St. Louis' Oshiomogho Atogwe. That's eight more interceptions than Dawkins had in the last three seasons. Jones' picks in the last three seasons equal the total number by all Eagles safeties. After being bothered by a sore right knee during the preseason, Jones underwent arthroscopic surgery following the Browns' season-opening loss to Dallas. He missed four games, then played in the final 11. His four interceptions came in Cleveland's final six games. Jones, listed at 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds, played mostly at strong safety for the Browns. But given his playmaking skills, he could replace Dawkins as the starting free safety if he signs with the Eagles, leaving Quintin Mikell at strong safety and second-year man Quintin Demps as the No. 3 safety and kick returner. Dawkins' departure, of course, created a whirlwind of controversy because many fans felt the Eagles let the seven-time Pro Bowler sign with the Denver Broncos. Eagles president Joe Banner said on WIP-AM (610) on Wednesday that the team never got a chance to counter Denver's offer. Given a chance to respond yesterday, Dawkins' agent, Jim Steiner, declined to comment.

Thanks for the read. This is the first I'm reading of any interest in Jones. It'll be interesting what kind of offer they make to Jones (if any), and if we try to counter.

The Eagles are hurting at safety. I have a bad feeling they'll overpay and we won't match.

If they are willing to overpay, then good for Jones. He may as well collect, a lot of the other DBs are breaking the bank.
This just may be the offseason that nets us compensation picks. That would be in 2010, right?
