Emmitt Smith is out as an ESPN NFL analyst after two seasons with the network, ProFootballTalk.com reports.

The network does not plan a formal announcement about the move.

Smith, the NFL's all-time leading rusher, received overwhelmingly negative reviews for his on-air work.

"We thank Emmitt for his contributions to ESPN and work ethic the past two years," ESPN spokesman Bill Hofheimer told PFT via e-mail. "We wish him all the best."

Great running back, not so great analyst. Hoping and praying he finds a good job as coaching as I think he could be a good one. Not every player is cut out to be a analyst no matter what their on the field credentials were. You have to have something to keep people watching and paying attention.

CBS is # 1 right now, NBC's pregame is getting a little too crowded. Fox hasn't been the same without James Brown. ESPN needs to streamline their broadcast team, the NFLNetwork needs to pick one team and stick with them..
