God bless him, I enjoy him as a color commentator.
But...I don't know what it is about the FSOhio announcers this year, but it's like someone instructed in their ears to "Say as many one-liners as you can, make catchphrases." It gets old.
I can only hear "Get that weak stuff outta here." So many times.
Anyone agree/disagree?

he uses his lines more now, funny since i think the spike started when the drinking game started going around, maybe he wants people to be annihiliated while they watch the cavs

here's a good poll question. who brings more to a broadcast, austin carr, or doug dieken?
you can only choose one.

I love the way Bernie does the pre-season games. His voice is annoying a bit, but being a former player he breaks things down very good. I know there are other former players doing this but Bernie is awesome at it without being annoying.

he's great because he's real, he's not some coached up guy trying to make a name for himself, he just tells it like it is.
and he's funny as hell.

I like listening to him on Rizzos radio show. He is funny. That horrible scratchy voice, sounds drunk all the time. He is great.

AC is a great dude... anyone who has gotten the chance to meet him knows what I'm sayin.....
This season has been a dream so far... as a viewer AC is a part of that story....
AC enjoys things, no reason not to... He has been Mr. Cavalier through the tough times.
And really, that's where I think it hits home.. Cleveland loves AC, but the people that have followed this franchise throgh the hard times really appreciate the fun...

Not a game goes by that I still don't miss Reghi.
And, yes...AC has amped up his 'catchphrases'...I wouldn't attribute it to the drinking game...I have a feeling that folks around town love him and his schtick so much that he's probably constantly bombarded/encouraged with imitations of his phrases.
Dude cried when we won the LeBron lottery...he may not be the smoothest announcer...but he loves this team and it shows.

I don't think I've ever seen internet video on it. I remember that night. I was working at "Late Night". We used to watch the local "Simpsons" rerun every night during dinner. That night our taping ran a little late, and everyone let me tune into the lottery. Whenever basketball came u, Conan always had a running gag asking me where I was from...whenever I'd say 'Cleveland' he'd coldly tell me I wasn't allowed to talk about basketball. There was one other guy in the office from Cleveland, and when Denver's card came up for the #2 pick, we were jumping and hugging and the whole room was rolling their eyes like we were rubes. Probably my favorite non-game Cleveland sports moment.

Love his homerism, his love for the cavs.
But yes, the over-use of his 4-5 catchphrases has worn on me. For that reason, I'd rather him replaced.

Awesome story PDR.
AC makes me laugh. You can tell how excited he is at times and how he is searching for the words to describe his excitement. When LeBron went off for 16 points in 2 minutes on Friday against the Bucks, he said some crazy things. Matter of fact, in his blog, I believe he said he had no idea what he was even saying.
He's a Cavalier, no matter what.
Plus, have you heard some of the other color guys around the league. Tommy in Boston...are you kidding me. I'd take Austin every day of the week over that hack.

i worked at the news herald when the cavs won the draft lotto, i remember talking with one of the big wigs there the day of the lotto, and he was showing me some previews of what the front page would look like if they won or if they didn't, and we both kind of agreed that we wouldn't get him, i really thought he'd end up somewhere else, because usually the best odds in the lotto don't always get you the best pick.
but i remember watching that, and i don't know if we could have envisioned this when we got him. not only do we have him, but we have the right people in place. think about all the things that had to fall into place (and if you read terry pluto and windy's book, you'd also know that the shawn kemp move was almost necassary for this to happen)
cavs win the lotto, paxon able to dump some salary... gund sells the team to a man with vision and passion, certain pieces we signed didn't work out and we land mo williams...
it's pretty cool to look back over the last 6 years and see how this franchise went from doormat to a team that will compete year in and year out.

no doubt..
i've always followed the cavs, but i'm not gonna lie to you, i didn't follow as closely as i do now. a tuesday game vs the grizzlies like yesterday, i probably would have just checked the box score... usually weekend games and games against the lakers/bulls/spurs etc.. were what i really got up for.
and i'm like almost everyone who misses reghi, but fred has grown on me, i think he and ac make a good tandem.
i know some people are annoyed by ac, and i do agree his catch phrases have been overkill since about a month or two ago, but as mentioned, he's been here through some very ugly years. he sincerely loves the organization, and i think the feeling is mutual.

Yep, great book - got it when it first came out. A lot fell into place in the years prior to that lottery going our way. It really is a storybook tale - local guy turns franchise around. Can't beat that.
Next chapter: a ring for the city of Cleveland.

I love AC, but the same old one liners every other possession is starting to wear a bit. Last night when they had 3 or 4 blocks, an LBJ dunk and a 3 in about a 45 second span to start the game, he was out of bullets. He just needs to pull it back one notch. Still, I'd rather have AC than not have AC.

Agreed. I love AC as a person, and I love that he is a die hard Cavalier. But it is getting old. Don;t get me wrong, ill take it over Scott Williams and I enjoy Austin to a point, but by the end of the game I've had enough. I will always watch the ESPN broadcast over FSN if given the chance, just to get away from them for a game.
And Fred still sucks.

Fred has kinda grown on me a bit.. but I think some of that has to do with the fact that we have played so well this year... there could be a chimp calling the game and I would still enjoy it with the way this season has gone....
Gilbert hand picked Fred to come in.. being with Detroit, him and Dan had ties.. the guy is Gilbert's puppet...

I know, and that is why in the beginning I disliked him before even listening to him. But I have given him an honest shot and I still think he is terrible. And I really hated how he came in and would talk about past games (seasons) as if he was apart of the team. I mean, Ill give him credit, he does do his homework, but thats just one of the many things about him that irk me.
Oh well, All that matters is the team on the court and winning the game. I have listened to worse during games.

Did a quick look up on Fred. I knew he was a Deee-troit Basket-ball guy, but actually has done a stint in c-Town at some point earlier in his career. I thought he knew his C-Town history a bit too well at times....
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (Redirected from Fred McLeod (sports analyst)) Jump to: navigation, search
Fred McLeod (born 1952) joined FSN Ohio prior to the 2006-07 NBA season as the play-by-play voice of the Cleveland Cavaliers. He teams up with returning color analyst Austin Carr for Cavaliers games telecast on FSN Ohio.
Fred's wife Beth McLeod was the traffic reporter for WDIV and works as an on air host for the Michigan Lottery daily drawings.
Prior to joining FSN Ohio, McLeod served 22 consecutive seasons as the Detroit Pistons TV play-by-play voice, including nine seasons with FSN Detroit. His 22 years is a record of a television only announcer with the same NBA team. McLeod began his work on Pistons games in 1984 with PASS Sports.
McLeod also did play-by-play duties on FSN Detroit's coverage of Michigan high school football and basketball championships. A Detroit sportscaster since 1982, McLeod was a reporter at WDIV-TV 4 (NBC), hosting its long-running Sunday night show Sports Final Edition.
McLeod's career includes play-by-play experience of the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Oakland Athletics.
McLeod began his professional career in 1974 at KQTV in St. Joseph, Missouri and later at WSTV in Steubenville, Ohio, WJKW-TV in Cleveland and KPIX-TV in San Francisco. He is a graduate of Pointe Park College in Pittsburgh, where he pitched in the NAIA College World Series.
Today, McLeod is the play-by-play announcer on the team's broadcasts on Fox Sports Net Ohio. McLeod is known for often making references to being in the city of Cleveland during games, such as stating that Lebron "drives it down Euclid Avenue" or "swats it into Lake Erie," even when calling road games.

I'm pretty sure AC has had someone whisper in his ear to say those annoying one liners more than once. Not only are they annoying, they are unprofessional, and yes, not funny at all. Is it any wonder why Cleveland has been a joke as far as sportscasters are concerned? Bruce Drennen, Tony Rizzo, Greg Brinda, just to name a few, and now Austin Carr??? It is puzzleing to me why the Plain Dealer even gave this guy front page coverage in the sports section earlier this week.
Get that weak stuff outta here...seriously.

We have possibly the best NBA play-by-play man in the country. Joe Tait is a legend.
And Jim Donovan is no slouch, either.

Jimmy-D is one of the best in the business IMO. On one of the radio shows down here, they would replay the radio highlights from the weeks' football games. The guys on the show couldn't even name half the of the other teams' announcers, but they always noted how exciting Donavan's calls were.

I agree with you. I'm merely describing the absolute worst that Cleveland has. Donovan and Tait are the best in this town...but unfortunately the worst outnumbers the best.

chicago's announcers are HORRIBLE
the only guy i like is hawk, and that's because he's hilarious, and tells the best stories, but even he is an absolute honk
i can't stand len kasper (cubs tv) ron santo on the radio is ehh, some people love him some hate
most local play by play are going to be honks... joe tait has some in him, but honestly, he's legendary. i don't know how much bball i can listen to on the radio but he makes it worthwhile, he really paints the picture, and he has great flow.

and he was spot on. good call from ac.
