The National Football Post has confirmed that free agent cornerback Jabari Greer has just signed a four-year deal with the New Orleans Saints for around $23 million.

Greer had drawn interest from multiple teams since free agency began last Friday, visiting with the Detroit Lions over the weekend and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday in Tampa.

A five-year veteran out of the University of Tennessee, Greer has spent his entire career with the Buffalo Bills. He had 38 tackles and 2 interceptions, both of which he returned for touchdowns last season with the Bills.

I can only wonder the Bonuses being paid the first two season....regardless of spreading the cap...I'm sure Coles will be getting 14 mill of that his first two seasons. Just a guess.

St. Louis Rams receiver Torry Holt asks for his release

Realizing he no longer fits in the team’s plans, seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Torry Holt has asked for his release from the Rams, league sources told the Post-Dispatch on Wednesday.

The Rams have been shopping Holt, 32, on the trade market, but so far there have been no takers. Holt is due a $1.25 million roster bonus on March 17, so it’s unlikely he will be a Ram beyond then.

But with free-agent wide receivers being signed daily around the NFL, and hundreds of millions of dollars already spent six days into free agency, Holt is seeking some closure to his time in St. Louis.


If we can't bring JJ back for one more season, I would mind signing him for a year. Of course, he might be lookinng for a 2-year deal though. It's something to think about I suppose (with Coles off the market).

Holt is 32, not 35 like TO or 37 like Galloway, heck even L.Coles is 31 and got the deal he got...I wouldn´t mind signing Holt to a 3 year deal, even 4...he´s as reliable as it gets

The 49ers just made the best deal yesterday btw by signing DE D.Evans, 29, from WAS...he was a good run stuffer and I hoped we´d get him since you can´t count on the 2 Smith´s and C.Williams is still a ??....they got him at 3.8mil for 2 seasons....wow, that´s the bargain of the FA so far...he would have been an upgrade over both Smithy´s....don´t know why we didn´t try harder with Evans....his skills are a perfect macth for the 34 which SF runs, they got a steal

In other spectacular news...whoever thought we might get picks on top of Kiwi was nuts...they won´t even comsider 1to1

Source: Giants will not trade Kiwanuka for Edwards

There's been speculation recently that the Giants are interested in trading for Browns receiver Braylon Edwards, and defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka's name has come up in the discussion.

But a league source with knowledge of the Giants' situation has told me that the team will not deal Kiwanuka for Edwards. Or any other player, for that matter. As it was explained to me, the Giants have bulked up the defensive line by adding Chris Canty and Rocky Bernard, but it's not to add sufficient depth to trade away any of the key players along the line, particularly Kiwanuka.

It's not out the question that the Giants do make a play for Edwards, who is considered expendable by new Browns head coach Eric Mangini. But if it happens, it's more likely to involve Giants' draft picks than players.

Oh really???...I've never heard or read him sayin' that...

You haven't heard that? I mean, granted no one in the organization or tied to the organization has said that Edwards is expendable, but the reporters think that the organization thinks that Edwards is expendable, so it must be true!!!

Heck no!!!!

Braylon is a "catch" away from being a pro bowl player every year....

He's worth a 1st and 2nd.... He was a HIGH first round pick.

CB Springs to sign with New England

Veteran free agent CB Shawn Springs is expected to sign with the New England Patriots, after visiting with both the Pats and Eagles this week.

(It was reported that Springs was to visit Foxboro on Sunday, but he was delayed by the snow storm that hit the East Coast.)

The former first-round pick was released by the Washington Redskins last week in a salary-cap move. The 6-foot, 207-pound former first-round pick has played 11 seasons.

Lions land Phillip Buchanon, Grady Jackson

The Lions added two more players Wednesday, signing defensive tackle Grady Jackson to a three-year, $8-million contract and agreeing to a two-year, $8.5-million deal with cornerback Phillip Buchanon.



Jackson, 36, is a 350-plus-pounder who can plug the middle on running downs. He spent last season with Atlanta, starting 14 games. Buchanon, 28, could start. He started all 16 games for Tampa Bay last season, intercepting two passes and returning one for a touchdown.

The Lions ranked last against the run and had only one interception by a defensive back in 2008, while the defense ranked last overall.

"Detroit can go nowhere but up from here," Buchanon told the Tampa Tribune. "The big issue for me was playing time, and I'm going to get a lot of playing time in Detroit."

The Lions have been active since free agency began Friday, sticking to their plan of signing mid-level free agents to fill specific needs, with the idea of building their nucleus through the draft. They also have signed wide receiver Bryant Johnson, running back Maurice Morris and cornerback Eric King, while acquiring cornerback Anthony Henry in a trade.

Team president Tom Lewand said Johnson and Henry could fill holes as starters and Morris could complement Kevin Smith. He said King fit their profile -- a tough, hard worker who can contribute on special teams.

The Lions have hosted or are scheduled to host several other free agents. Offensive lineman Daniel Loper visited Wednesday. "Daniel had a great visit with the coaches for the Lions, but we were unable to reach a deal with the club," Loper's agent, Leonard Roth, said in an e-mail. "Hopefully something will be worked out, but we are pursuing other options."

Tight end L.J. Smith reportedly was scheduled to visit Wednesday. Defensive end Vonnie Holliday reportedly is scheduled to visit early next week.



Quarterback is an area of need, especially with Dan Orlovsky gone to the Texans. Free agent Chris Simms, in whom the Lions reportedly had interest, signed with the Broncos.

Lewand would not comment on a reported attempt to acquire Denver's Jay Cutler in a trade. But he praised Daunte Culpepper's commitment, talked about Drew Stanton's opportunity to develop and left their options open otherwise. "We're exploring those options, both in free agency and, obviously, looking at some possibilities in the draft," Lewand said. "There's a deeper pool of backup-quarterback candidates this year than there have been in recent years."

Lewand highlighted the Lions' patience and played down the difficulty of attracting free agents to Detroit: "I think, a lot of times, you can put yourself in a tough spot if you just simply charge forward and sign somebody without being thorough and exhaustive in your investigative process."

Ok 79...nobody knows what our FO thinks...but look at it this way:

Cutler, Kiwanuka, Edwards, Rogers, DA....all rumored to be on trade block, right? DEN and Giants came out and said they are NOT...our own FO was cited not letting go Rogers and DA will have a chance to compete...that were ALL reactions to trade rumblings....but on BE....no word, no backing up....don´t you think it´s strange? Nobody knows for sure, just trying to present what we know and what is being reported

You do realize the Broncos trade thing was completely made up, right? And where's the proof that these other guys were on the block, outside of Roger Brown type reporters saying "Sources say..."
