Adios K2. See ya later. While a decent receiving TE, you were a complete as* and jerk off the field.
We have very nice depth at TE and Heiden is a true blocking TE and that might be what the new guys want vs. a guy that only wants to catch balls.

I enjoyed watching Kellen play, but he really soured on me this past season. Well I guess you can say we don't have a first round pick on our team from the 99-04 drafts.

This would also signal a turn to a running style offense, right?
If so, we need some more/different linemen.
you had a good run Hank.

Pretty well sums it up for me.
Winslow was pretty one dimensional: An awesome pass catcher coming from the TE slot. Other than that, what did he bring to the table? I don't think it was any mistake that we looked a heck of a lot better when Winslow was hurt and Heiden played in his place. Suddenly we had a running game and didn't have extra penalties killing our drives.
A 2nd and a 5th, is fine with me. A 2nd and a 3rd would be robbery. Winslow was as good as gone after this season anyway.

I like this move a lot, for several different reason:
Firstly, this move had to be made sooner rather than later. The longer we put it off the worse this guys health was gonna be. We basically got rid of him at a time where we could at least get a little value for him. His knee was not going to get any better, and it has really affected his play down the stretch the past two seasons.
Secondly, I think that it was about time we got rid of Winslow because of his inability to block, this really proved to be a liability in the running game. And if the Browns are ever going to be perennial winners in the division and the league as a whole we need to start moving towards a power-running game. And I believe this started with the departure of Winslow.
Seeing as how our stadium is located on the shore of a huge body of water, where wind carries acrossed unhindered from the north--we need an offense that isn't depending on throwing the ball come November, December, and January. We need to keep the ball on the ground to use this geography as an advantage. We need to get back to having the identity of a power running team---not a fancy passing team.
That does not win in the AFC North.
I wish to wash my Irish wristwatch......

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns traded talented but troublesome tight end Kellen Winslow on Friday to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for undisclosed draft picks.
I have thought Winslow would be traded ever since the public display of immaturity and lack of respect to the franchise over the staph thing last fall.
The only thing I do not like is the "undisclosed" draft picks.
Everyone is so happy and approve of the deal, but we don't know what we get yet. This deal could end up sucking in a heart beat as soon as we define what "undisclosed draft picks" translates into.
Usually, its not good for someone and in this case, I can't believe the Bucs are unhappy about getting Winslow.
This deal might not be as good as some of you think...keep that in mind.
I will reserve judgement until we know the real story.

I agree...WIllie Parker is hardly a power runner, and yet the Steelers have been doing pretty well in the North for a while now.

Hopefully, Rogers (for a high 2nd) and Anderson (for a 3rd). I think Braylon stays.

Yeah, because the Steelers and Ravens haven't both won super bowls on the strength of their defense and running games.

We will kill ourselves in salary cap if we get rid of everyone and how do you plan on filling all the holes we will have. Rookies wont do it, and free agency will put us in cap hell. My opinion which isn't worth much is we need to do it over a couple of years.

Prp...this is the only way Browns players get to a Super Bowl...honestly.
Every few years the Browns get another new coach who can't coach but dÕes know how to have a yard sale of the previous coaches draft picks.
We always let these players go cheap and next thing you know, they are in the Super Bowl.

well given that the steelers had under 60 yards on the ground in THIS superbowl and given that the steelers were losing for a part of it, i'd say the air game definitely helped.

What's done is done....Assuming Winslow passes his physical ....Mangini is like every new HC who takes over a team....He will want to put his mark on the team by bringing in his own players....Winslow IMHO was a net loss for the Browns(All Pro or not)....I did personally like Winslow , but now these players that we draft will be Magini's problem....

Now I'm really curious to see what the draft picks are that we got for him....a 2nd and a 5th would be great....but it scares me when they don't disclose them.....could be one of those deals that if he gets so many yards then the pick gets better .....which would mean that the picks wouldn't even be for this year possibly.....I just wish they would hurry up and tell us....!!!!!!....... ...

I'd be happy to loose BE for some decent picks.
I love Rogers, but don't want him here if he isn't going to be the same player he was last year.
Anderson... I wouldn't mind keeping, unless there's a Kerry Collins type guy we could pull in. Charlie Batch? Leftwich? Even Simms maybe? I'm not down on DA. I'm not crazy about his short game and accuracy, but he's a gamer and he's been screwed by dropsies, so with some real receivers, he may be worth keeping. Question is, will we sign some real receivers and still be able to build the D and the O-line like we need to with our relative inactivity in FA?

Just another opinion here, but my guess is that the driving force for early changes will pertain to players who don't fit into the new "culture" - even moreso than those that don't fit into the "system". Wimbley isn't a priority for example, while Winslow had to be at the top of the list - even ahead of Edwards. Way ahead.
They know they need to put a solid product on the field. Winslow is addition by substraction - doesn't hurt us in the least. We're a better "team" the second he packs up his locker.
Edwards, Rogers, etc would require more consideration because they would leave a talent gap to some degree. They'd have to have a plan to fill that void.

The people that want to see Braylon out the door next are content with a receiving corps of Stallworth, Steptoe, Cribbs, and Paul Hubbard?

I am assuming if Edwards was traded we would bring in another WR through the draft or free agency.

Haha, well, I guess if you were happy with the way our receivers played last year...
But if we're using our first or second round pick on a receiver I'll be livid. There aren't really any guys available in FA that can be legit #1s for the next three or four years besides Housh, but I doubt he's coming here, and we don't need any more late draft pick WR projects.

Hack - I hate the steelers as much as anyone but I don't see where you were giving an I told you so. I saw Jules' comment and went huh?
I bet we got a 2nd this year and a conditional pick for next year. A 5throunder that could go as high as a 3rd based on games played and production.
Interesting point on Edwards. He performed much better last year when KWII was out.
I wouldn't trade Edwards or Rogers without getting blown away with the offer. I would trade Anderson (for a 2 and a 4) and Wimbley (for a 3).
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

So the Bucs have tied down Antonio Bryant and arguably the best catching TE in the league. Anyone think they may be going after a QB in Free Agency .... Cassell or DA?

Yeah, come on a Browns board and start bringing up how we ALL fawned all over Winslow when we got him and asking how we can be "oh, he sucks" "get rid of him" now.
I know what he was doing. If you want to buy the crap, go for it.
