i watched the nfl netowrk on the trade and Schefter said that he was guessing it could be in the range of a 2 and 5 or 3 and 6.

So it will be important to see what the picks are and there are no facts to back up the wide report that it is a 2 nd round pick right now.

I guess what I am saying is that don't place your bets on the 2nd round pick right now.
Edit

I may stand corrected. i post this and then I see the following.

Quote:

he Cleveland Browns have traded talented but troublesome tight end Kellen Winslow to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a second round draft pick in 2009 and a fifth-round selection in '10, as reported by SI.com's Don Banks.

well given that the steelers had under 60 yards on the ground in THIS superbowl and given that the steelers were losing for a part of it, i'd say the air game definitely helped.

Just for the record..The Steelers were only behind for 2 minutes 2 seconds

I just like to talk about it.

I would very gladly take a 2nd and 5th for Winslow (as long as Heiden's injury is going to be okay).

Heiden is our blocking TE. Dinkins can do a little of both. Rucker hopefully develops into our pass catching TE. Winslow was dynamic and had the stickiest hands in the league, but he's probably got 3 productive years left and you don't know which years those will be with his knees. And, he can no longer block.

this draft is 2 rounds deep of immediate possible starters...we could probably get Chung (S, Oregon) in the middle of the 2nd round instead of reaching for him at #36 if we don't resign Sean Jones.

Not surprised he was traded, but i am a bit saddened. He was one of my favorite players, dispite his issues. But its business. His knees are just about shot, no way the browns would want to sign him to a new deal right now. It was just a matter of time before that salary became an issue once again. The timing was right to do this. It sends a message to the team as well -nobody is untouchable. Best of luck to Winslow as a Buc.

Please please please be a second rounder!!!

The people that want to see Braylon out the door next are content with a receiving corps of Stallworth, Steptoe, Cribbs, and Paul Hubbard?

I am assuming if Edwards was traded we would bring in another WR through the draft or free agency.

How about taking Robiskie with the #2 from TB?

I doubt we see Edwards traded. He is in good health and we saw that he has the ability to light things up. Maybe the team wants to see if this past year was more of an exception than the rule.

As for Rogers, if things can't be smoothed over and it looks like he's going to be a problem, then ship him out and get some nice picks.

Watched the presser and was actually pretty impressed by the class shown by Winslow in speaking very well of Cleveland.

However, there's another shoe that will drop...

A reporter asked him how he found out about the trade and he refused to answer. This says to me that the FO didn;t call him and tell him right away.... I would bet that at some point in the offseason KW2 does an about face and starts talking about how Kokinis and Mangini cut his legs out and never told him about it.

If you were impliing that Dinkins can block and is good on ST's,then yes he can do al ittle of both.If you meant he could block and catch, then no.He has caveman hands.
Hieden at #1,Dinkins At 2 and Rucker at 3.
Not very impressive.

I believe so much about the moves made this year will be about the locker room, as well as field performance. So I would not be surprised to see both BE & Rogers gone. As was pointed out on NFL.com, we either sign BE to an extension or we trade him. I really wonder about the possibility of an extension. I don't want a head case that can't catch the ball consistently at the #1 spot with a fat contract. Do you?

I did not see the press C....but I thought he did say he knew nothing of the trade..or that he was even being shopped....he said it politely...but I thought he already stated it.

I find it really interesting to watch this go down.

Winslow was going to be the GUY when the Browns drafted him....everyone on the board was seeing GREATNESS in the guy

Yet coming out of school....the knock on KWII was he was selfish (Im a soldier) that he ran bad routes, and everyone knew he did not block well...he was a WR in a TE body.

Now 5 years later its

Get him out of here...he is selfish...runs bad routes...and cant block.

Ill be honest..I really felt the Browns were taking Ben at pick 6

Nuttin' to do with anything u said...

Everything to do with MULTIPLE SURGERIES on a knee that obviously in this day and age in the NFL is NOT FOR LONG...

PEEK value...Short Term...TAKE IT...

Win's a pass catchin' STUD at TE...Hell...WR for that matter...The dude's knees won't last in this game for more than a couple years...The Brown's see this...Regardless of what the emotionally in love with Winslow fan sees...

Tampa got the short end of this one chief...

Personally, liked Winslow. Besides Cribbs, he was one player you knew went out on the field and played hard.

I guess business wise, it's good move in the long run since he probably won't have a very long career with those bad knees.

yes, Dinkins is a FA.

Like Branch Rickey said, it's better to trade a player too soon rather than too late. IMO Winslow was a one trick pony and although he did it well IMO we can do alright with what we have.

DnD without knowing for certain what we got, I wish I could be as optimistic as you regarding this deal. I've been a fan of this team too long to think we've benefited from this trade. We'll see if Mangenious/Kokinis are the draft experts we hope them to be.

Browns bulk up 2009 draft options with Winslow deal

Sources say the Browns got a second-round pick this year and a fifth-rounder in 2010 from Tampa Bay in exchange for tight end Kellen Winslow, Cleveland's first-round pick in '04. That strikes me as a great deal for the Browns, to get that much for a player they weren't very enamored with.

Cleveland's new regime of head coach Eric Mangini and general manager George Kokinis wanted to both increase Cleveland's draft firepower this year, and to weed out a potential problem player who was both angling for a new contract and hasn't always been on the same page as Browns management. And yes, that's an understatement.

Browns owner Randy Lerner is believed to have been in favor of retaining Winslow, but he went along with the wishes of his new front office team. The Browns now have five draft picks this year: a first, two seconds, a fourth and a sixth.

Said a front office member of one AFC North rival:"We're thrilled he's out of the division."

Knowing when to dish a player is a very important skill. Often, we've seen the Browns hang on to a player until he's useless and tradeless. Winslow has had so many surgeries on his knee that I doubt there is much original knee left, and now they're talking about his shoulder needing work. He probably has 2 productive years left, if he remains healthy, and another 4 years of "hanging on" after that. This was the right time and the right move. I just hope we got a 2nd and 5th like reported.

SOOOOOO.... with Winslow gone... who in the H is Quinn going to throw to now? He was the only one that caught a ball last year. The only one that had the "juice". I am really bummed. What next?... Who next? If we rebuild again... someone else can have my season tickets. B/S...

i'm very sad and disaspointed to see k2 go, he was one of my favorite browns since the rebirth...

but it was time. it was the right move to make, and i think getting a 2nd and a 5th (if that is true) is pretty good.

the guy may never reach the potential he had, he's got 2 bad legs.

this team needs more talent, more good players. healthy players.

this move is made because maybe new management realizes we are not that close, and that they need to get fresh bodies in here.

He wasn't going to fit is the only way I can read this.

The new staff is eager to put their stamp on the club, and now they begin.

In the short term, I am really concerned for WinslowBodden. What is he going to do now??

Mangini has said time and again he will build by the draft. Well, this is the way to get picks! Winslow has two to three decent years left, no possible way he could be in the long term plans.

Personally, As much as I hate to see us dismantle, I'm a bit excited to see some young, hungry guys come in and play some (hopefully) disciplined football!

Not like we were world beaters anyway.

i don't know if we'll dismantle, but i do like seeing us stockpile a pick or two...

i think edwards could be traded, but i wouldn't bet on it...

we still have joe thomas, and steinbach.. we have a cornerback tandem that is young and has shown signs of being good...

it all comes down to our defense and our qb play. we have to find our qb, whether or it be quinn, anderson, or someone else, and we have gotta stop getting burned on 3rd &10's

Me neither. Just ponting out that this development brings Crabtree into the picture at #5. Especially if we end up trading BE - Who by the way I was also against drafting.in the top 5.

Sign Coles. Stallworth has got to get lucky and be healthy and when so is quite productive. BE is due and with some coaching can still be a monster WR..

That's a pretty good trio IMO.

So we traded 1 player and we're starting over again? I hope you have you're helmet on since the sky is apparently falling.

Could it possibly be that we're trying to acquire picks to bolster the roster, not completely start over?

Dude, KW has 11 TD's in 5 years. If that really says, "our BEST offensive weapon" to you then you need to wake up. Heck, Braylon has 28 TD's in 4 years with the Browns. And we all agree he had a horrible year in 2008. Please.

Here's the deal, KW played in only 44 out of the 80 Browns games since he was drafted. He's a shell of his former self and may always spend more time in the trainers room than on the field. As much as hurst to lose a big name, it's the best move for the Browns. Plus, he wanted a big contract extension.

The trade and draft picks aren't official.....so we have to wait a bit, but come on.....a 2nd and 5th rounder! We need a 2nd rounder in this draft badly.
