I put up a comparison of Edwards and all other 'elite' WR's in terms of drops about a year ago...the numbers were all quite similar. Last season was a little too much to swallow, but it could be argued that he's caught a bit too much flak for it historically.
I think he's whining when he says there's a bias against him for being a UM alum...but make no mistake about it -- if he went to OSU the crowds would be much more forgiving.

Are you saying get rid of every guy who has a bad year?
No, just every overrated, overpaid player who can't do the job he's paid to do when the pressure's on. Just every player who doesn't fit into the team first mold. You don't like my one year out of four argument, I don't like the fact of it. Perhaps you would sign him to a large contract and see if he can fit in here and become the WR everyone dreams of some time in the next 4-5 years. Not me. It's sad, I get it, nobody wants to give up on a premiere player who was taken in the #1 spot. He may have even shown moments of brilliance. I bought the guy's jersey, (Winslow's too,) for cryin' out loud. But his performance last year was an abomination. More indicative of his true nature than the previous year, IMHO. So screw it, I am willing to move on, rather than resign the guy or put up with it another year and then walk away with nothing at the end of it all.

So his bad year is enough to totally ignore is GREAT yr? C'mon he had one of the best years EVER for a browns receiver. Wow you guys must have a short memory.
Do you mean his one great year out of four? His one year out of four where he had more than 6 TDs and a 1000 yards. Apparently your memory is so short it only goes back two years. I may be wrong here, but I think he may have led the league in drops in '07 too. He did have a great year, but he was our only receiving weapon, in a season where we ran a vertical attack with an extremely soft schedule. So, what exactly is it that makes him so great again?
My memory is just fine thank you. First off how many ROOKIE WR have 1000 yd yrs their first yr in the league? I know it happened this yr a couple times but it usually takes 2-3 yrs for a WR to breakout. His second yr he was coming off MAJOR knee surgery, which people say takes a full yr to recover(don't know for sure cause I have never been through it) and still had almost 1000 yds. Then in his 3rd yr he had 1,289 yds and 16 TDS. You can say he was our only receiving threat all you want if that was the case then every team we played would have doubled him up and still managed to have one of the greatest yrs ever by a browns receiver. So yeah he had one GREAT yr, one bad yr and two yrs that you and me could debate all night whether they were good or bad.

With all due respect to our history...THE greatest year ever by a Browns WR.

Adam, a GM and HC can't think that way when their team is where we are. If we were on the doorstep so to speak, I would agree with you. However, if BE isn't going to re-sign, it's better to take the hit this year and get something for him instead of nothing. We aren't on the verge of getting to the Super Bowl this year so getting no return on BE isn't the smart move for the team overall. It might help this year, but are we really expecting a strong playoff run this year? No, so you have to weigh that into the decision.
Maybe I missed something but I have not seen anything stating BE WILL NOT RESIGN with the browns. Now if at some point he makes it known that he does not want to be hear after this yr then yes trade him but dont do it before he says so. I know he said stuff about not wanting to be here during the season but I think he was frustrated with the season he was having.
Since this is his contract yr they will probably start talking to him soon about a new conrtact, if they still want him, thats when they will find out if he wants to be here or not.
You may have missed severeal things that's happened (not sarcasm there, just saying). BE has been treated terribly by some fans. His house has been trashed, his family harassed and threatened. BE has made it clear to some on the team that he is out of here as soon as he can be. There would have to be some serious changes in BE's life in Cleveland before he would even consider talking to the FO let alone signing.
No I didn't miss them I am just a lowly fan not living in the Cleveland area that gets all of his info from this site.(not sarcasm it is the truth lol) Like I said if he does not want to resign, yes then by all means get something for him, but I have been a NFL fan for long enough to know that when a big name player, and yes as much as you guys don't want to admit it he is a big named player, is not happy and does not want to resign with a team there is a story about it. Sry but I have not read anything like that since the season ended.

IF BE doesn't want to be here - which I think is a 80% given- we will know so by the trading deadline and ship him to an eager and wide-eyed contender willing to overpay to hit jackpot for the jackpot in sight.
I hope management realizes this is the most lucrative course of action. If we're playing well, we have better odds to re-sign him if we choose. If not, we can trade him at a premium.
