Last Wednesday afternoon,I went to Ultimate Wash on St Rt 43 to wash my F-150....I went through the automated touchless system for $7.00.
Lo and behold on notice on my right rear quarter panel where above the wheel well is defined, its scraped.
Starting from the back to the front of the above the wheel, its scraped over the defined curves of the fender.
Its starts out with what looks like some kind of plastic is on the clearcoat to a scrap into the layer of clearcoat about 4-6 inches from the plastic.
What should I do about this......I know if I call Ultimate Wash at their Aurora number, they'll say "we aren't liable"......
If I get a estimate from Frank and Dylans in Aurora and go to State Farm, will they raise my rates?........
I could go to Summit Racing and get fenders guards, but they run about $500.00....

any advice?

Why do you think it happened at the car wash? Touchless washes have never touched my car -- hence the name.

Michelle, the scrapes on my fender are consistant of some thing in a rotary fashion. at the car wash their system starts from the rear and goes around. The scapes go perfectly over the defined shape of my fender above the wheel well.....
Its like this.....take 2 pieces of something straight and place it under some paper....now take a crayon and rub over the top of the paper..all thats going to show on the paper is what traced over...the shape of those 2 straight pieces.....
thats the best way I could put it.......my scrapes go from light to worse according to the defintion of my wheel well.

i usually just wash mine at the self-wash things. although it's not like i'm rolling with any sweet car

1) proving it happened there will not be easy

2) they probably have signs up saying we are not liable

yep not a damn thing you can do about it, I had a carwash damage my car a long time ago, and they do have the sign up about not being liable.

Afew years ago a coworker went through the exact same thing...nothing.

If it didn't go deep into the clear coat a reputable body guy should be able to buff it out fairly cheap.

Forget the car wash. Between non-liability statements and your burden of proof it actually happend there, you can forget that option.

From the sound of it, it didn't even get in to the paint.

If not...a light touch with some rubbing compound will buff that right out..(just don't buff out your paint).apply a new coat of wax in that area and you are good to go.

It is hard to say not knowing how bad it really is, but generally speaking, I wouldn't turn in a insurance adjustment for a cosmetic blemish.

The cost to realistically fix it is probably less than the deductible...and then you add another claim on your insurance even if they don't pay anything.

It's a truck man...they look better with a few bumps and bruises.

Is this the kind of car wash where you stay in the car? Because if it is, how did you not hear this? If not, why did you not notice it when you were on-site?

At any rate I agree with the others.....you're probably better off just taking care of this yourself.

And Peen's right .....a truck should have a few scratches.......

Not much you can do from a liable standpoint, but you may want to call them / stop by to let them know that it happened so it doesn't happen to someone else. May be just something out of alignment on their system and this way they can fix it. If you present it right, they might even offer a free wash for letting them know.

And I doubt it will be more than your deductible for insurance purposes, no sense in adding the claim imo.

I know the carwash your speaking of impact.. You have an F-150 and I have a 07 Trailblazer.. the width of the cars are not significantly different.. meaning yours may be a couple of inches wider..

I can say this, look at the way that wash works, I'd say that the arm that circles the cars is at least a foot to a foot and a half away from my car at any point. I can't see how this hit your truck,,,,, makes no sense to me man.. sorry.

That's how I feel about it. Unless you can somehow be too far to one side when you pull in, these things DO NOT touch the car.

michelle, the only way you could be too far to the left or right is if you just can't drive,, and even then, the wash won't start unless your left front tire is in the right spot.

if you know what Wheel chucks are,, you have to drive over a little chuck with your left front wheel. when you cross over the little chuck, you hit a valley before a larger front chuck. there is a light that, like a traffic light that goes on. it actually tells you that you either are in the right place, or your not.

Basically, you can't fool the thing into thinking your in the right place, when your not.

the other day I went into the one in Aurora.. in front of me was one of those pick up trucks with the dual wheels on the back.. It had a 5th wheel hitch in the bed of the truck.. Big truck. way wider than my Trailblazer.. it was close, but the gadget completely circled the vehicle and didn't hit it..

Yeah, I know how they work...just trying to give Impact the benefit of doubt here. I still don't know how it could happen. Lesson learned to always check your car out for damage BEFORE you enter any car wash.

That's the truth,. Got a neighbor,, young kid, drives a honda. Nice kid, anyway, I was out walking my dog and he pulled in and I asked him how he wrecked his car.. he had no idea what I was talking about.... I pointed to a rather large dent in his fender... he was shocked, hadn't seen it before..

Someone just hit his car and didn't say a word.. that's sad, but I think it's a sign of the times......

Soory! Hard to prove and they will deny liability and responsibility. Usually posted. I would get an estimate because I try not to decide until I have facts in hand. Might be able to be bffed for cheap. If it less than deductible, don't bother to claim. It may raise rates. Some of that is up to the rep, so it might be worth a what if call. Good luck, and condolences.

thanks to everyone who replied.very appreciative. I noticed the surface damage the day after the car wash visit.
It wasn't someones car door....theres no dent. the markings completely outline the distinctive shape of my fender....
If the rotary arms at Ultimate did manage to do it,I couldn't have heard it because of the automative sound of the touchless system and plus being the cab it would be hard to hear anything outside.
This morning I took finger and rubbed off a bit of the plastic still left on the clearcoat finish...when you run your finger down the cosmetic damage it does eventually go under the clearcoat.

Yeah, I know but for some reason, it seems to be more like that now. My moms car was hit at marcs in Aurora and my wifes car was hit at the Eagles in Chagrin Falls.. not a note. nothing.

Sucks

Had it happen to both mine and my wife's car within a month of each other about 7 years ago... After having it fixed, about 6 months later my wife's car was hit again in a parking lot... this time the person left a note.

For future reference consider taking the Bengal stickers off the truck.

BTW Your truck got clearcoat on my key.

Seriously I hope it doesn't set you back too much. If it were mine (if it really bothers you) I'd get it fixed asap and forget about it. That way your ready for the next beating life throws at you.
