Yes, I snore. Yes, it is loud.
I know this because I wake myself up at times. (and because Christy tells me so)
Have been using the BreatheRight nasal strips with some success, but as of late they are not helping. Short of the obvious answer to check into septum repair and whatnot........was curious if anyone has tried the other stuff available out there; the sprays, the pills, etc.
Any success? Just BS marketing scams?? Input is appreciated!

Weight loss helped me. Never useed to snore when I was in shape, let myself go and developed the habit, back in shape and now the only time I snore (so I'm told) is when I am absolutely hammered.

I don't know of any meds but I heard that if you sleep with your head elevated it helps. Sleep with two pillows under your head. Doesn't hurt to try. But I do like that you annoy that stooler fan girlfriend of yours while she is sleeping. Keep it up!
How in the world can you fix something... If you don't know how it's supposed to work?

Maybe try another sleeping position ? I snore if I lay on my back, but not in any other position.

I have the same exact problem. Apparently I can wake the dead with my snoring.
This is something I am looking into, having a sleep study done. There is some concern I have sleep apnea. If that's the case I may have to have a cpap when I sleep.
Something to look into Shep.
and if I'm not mistaken, it's not about your nose it's about your throat. That's why the strips are not working . . .

If the snoring occurs when you sleep on your back, sew a tennis ball in the back of your pajama top to prevent you from sleeping on your back.

I use a CPAP myself. I have sleep apnia, it will definately help with snoring. It can be a real pain in the ass at times, but you get used to it.

Me too. I went so far ( at my wifes request/ demand )as wearing a pocket T backwards with a tennis ball in the pocket so it would wake me when I rolled to my my back. I got use to sleeping on my side and so far so good.

I bought my hubby a Sona Pillow. They're expensive (about $100 for a freakin' pillow), but it's been worth it so far. He hasn't stopped snoring completely, but it's definitely ALOT better. I bought it through Brookstone. My hubby's best friend uses one too and his wife tells me he doesn't snore at all anymore.
I guess what this pillow does is help you get into a sleep postion so your jaw is a bit forward so vibrations don't happen.

You can try all these things. If they don't work, schedule a sleep study. I have severe sleep apnea (before I was heavy) and have just about everything done to fix it with the exception of having my jaw broke and pulled forward. There are cpaps, bipaps, dental devices that help pull out your jaw. There is something else called uvulaplasty where they remove your tonsils, adnoids, uvula and even shave part of your throt.
I suggest that if you find out that you have sleep apnea you don't do the surgery unless they give you a high probability that it will work.

Oh and I saw on WebMD today (well, yesterday actually) that there's a new surgery for snorers. They insert 3 pieces of some polyester into your soft palette and that's supposed to stiffen it up so it doesn't vibrate - so that means no snoring. They say it costs about $2100 and it is not covered by insurance. Sounds intriguing though...Personally, I'll wait til it's been done more and see if it's not eventually covered under insurance. Though, to get a great night's sleep for both of us, $2100 doesn't sound so bad. LOL!
Tonight is just one of the nights when the pillow isn't working well enough. Snoring too loud for me to fall asleep. Guess I'll go lay on the couch...for a bit.

Every time you start snoring real loud Christy should punch you in the face. Make sure she records it and posts it on You Tube. Probably wont do anything to help with the snoring but at least it would entertain us KING

Learning to sleep on your stomach works. I have not slept on my back in over 20 years because the neighbors complained Other than that I can't help you bro, as I have the same problem.

Same here. I was a walking zombie and was suffering major memory loss from the lack of sleep. Almost fell asleep a few times driving home. Girlfriend said I snored something fierce.
Got the CPAP and my life has changed radically. I'd venture to say it saved my life. Sleep apnea was allegedly the cause of Reggie White's death.

To test the mouthguard thing theory just sit in a chair like you might fall asleep. (or your bed I suppose) When you breathe youll notice it being rather forced and a snore like sound might emit. Now, try jutting out your chin just a bit....no not as far as bill cowher! You should notice better breathing!
I'd say the mouthpiece thing might work very well.

Snoring can be an indication of serious and not so serious medical issues, so it's always good to talk to your doctor. My bro-in-law and niece's husbland both went to a sleep clinic (which I believe was covered by insurance) and now they both have breathing machines. Both say it's made a world of difference in their ability to sleep and wake up feeling rested.

In all seriousness, sleep apnea can be a major problem(or lead to serious health problems) if not treated. Medical research is starting to show that people not getting enough or good enough sleep may be a underlying cause of a lot of the medical epidemics in this country.
I guess I snore a lot now(or so my wife and kids tell me). It all started about 7 years ago when I got my nose broke in a hockey game( Jack Lambert was playing in the game,it wasnt him that broke my nose though I am sure he wanted to with some of the things we did to him in the course of the game). The thing was I didnt even realize that my nose was broke and didnt go to doc or anything so it just healed the way it was. So to this day I have a hairline fracture in the upper bridge of my nose. Not much they can do about it except to build me a new nose(no thanks).
Anyways it would be a good idea to go to the doc and get it checked out,

I also have a huge problem with snoring as well, I'm actually having a sleep study done this Friday night. The doctor thinks I have sleep apnea(sp) and says I probably stop breathing 15 -20 times a night. He did a test that somehow showed that my tongue completely blocks my airway when sleeping so i'm glad to get this sleep study done and will probably end up with a cpap very soon.

amateur. I stop more than that in hour. Wait, that's not a good thing. My issue is with my tongue as well. They didn't figure that out until they did the uvulaplasty. You may only need a dental appliance to fix your problem. After they realized my bipap wasn't working enough they had me fitted for one. I gotta say that the bipap is easier to get use to then the mouth piece. I had to stop wearing it because I couldn't get to sleep with it.
A 3rd option is having your jaw broke surgically and reset forward. After my first sleep study (after the uvulaplasty, I have had many sleep studies) the doctor said that was my only option because the cpap was turned up to 20 and still not working. I ended up switching doctors and the new guy (Dr. Wood of the Cleveland Clinic) said that was hogwash. He had me use a machine for 3 months then have another sleep study. The results were much better.

I went through this a few years ago. Problem is, you get a zillion and one wires hooked to you and then try to go to sleep on the most uncomfortable excuse for a bed there ever was. You don't sleep!!!!
I was found to be ok but know darn well I never entered a deep sleep. But it is solid advice to find out if you have apnea.

I may be wrong here but larger men tend to have snoring problems. Its because there is weight on there throats causing them to decrease. Which would then cause breathing difficulties which leads to breathing problems. Football players especially linemen have the same problem.

This overweight woman that works where I do had surgery to cut a chunk of fat from the back of her throat and that helped with her snoring.
