Can you blame Jurevicius for not taking a pay cut? He caught staph in Cleveland and the team wanted him to give more than his body and a lost season back?Ineptness knows no bounds. What the Browns are doing is just the beginning of a roster purge that will make the previous personnel regime look inept. They’re going to rid the roster of high-priced talent and then cry poor when the season sours. Or blame a horrendous record, if that happens, on rebuilding the roster through the draft, and yada, yada, yada. You’ve heard that before, and it was legitimate when Phil Savage came in. Or Magini-Kokinis will create an us-against-the-world mentality on a team where the expectations were already low - now lower - and surprise some people. I wouldn’t bet the house on God dropping everything and busting those Vegas odds. Instead, the new regime is stocking the shelves in Cleveland with castoffs from the … Jets? Yes, the same Jets who quit at the end of the season - or choked - and got Mangini fired. I’m thinking Mangini is going to ge rid of a QB (probably a fan favorite) and Shaun Rogers. I’m being told this roster purge is just the beginning of things to come. Or it could be the team is cutting salary and trimming the bottom line up to make the books look awfully nice for a new suitor. Which do you think is best? link

I didn't think we needed a roster purge this time around... but then again... We did go 4-12 last year... so maybe it is best... but so far... not so good IMO.

I also like that this joker (and several of the people who commented about the article) talk so much about how no one would want to buy the team, blah blah blah. The Lerners bought the Browns for $530,000,000 in 1998. As of 2008, the team is worth $1,000,000,000. That's a pretty nice 10 year return. The Browns are the fifteenth ranked team in the league in the value of the franchise (per here). Yet these yahoos want to bash the team. Man oh man...

What is the NFL average in roster changes? How do we comply.
How many players have we released this off season; What is the League average?
How many starters have we released? None that I can think of.
Where is this purge? We were known around the League to have a good core but we didn't have the depth. I've seen very little moves PURGING that core of players and a lot improving that depth.
Porter is a Bozo extraordinaire. This article doesn't change a thing

I remember when my cousin played basketball in high school in the Canton area, he used to say he really tried to keep up in the papers with not only his school but the other schools in the area. I remember him telling me how much people just couldn't stand Porter's writing.
I never really paid attention to it, but man, what is this guy's problem?

I know, the reporters "just hate EM"....it couldn't be that these same reporters, WHO WERE RIGHT about all the previous regimes, might actually know something. Hopefully they are wrong this time.
It's not as bad as Todd is saying, but still alarming. You can't judge them until you see the product, some are alarmed, some are very pleased. Either way, even after the draft, he should wait to write articles like this one until the season has started so you can see the results.

I believe I read many good things about the Browns regime headed by Carmen Policy...were they right then?
Also, I believe I read many bad things about the Browns regime headed by Bill Belicheck and the most influential group of football minds assembled on one team in the modern era....were they right then as well?
And, the whole point is not that he disagrees with the moves...it is that he does not back up his disagreement with any logic other than calling them names, which is immature and lacks the professionalism that he should have.

Hey Todd ..... take a look at the Steelers in Cower's last year and compare their roster that ended the season under Tomlin last year. Here's a clue Todd ..... 28 players from the 2007 team that Tomlin inherited from Cower were on their roster later year. That means that 27 players weren't. Damn that Tomlin for "blowing up that roster. How will they ever win anything? God knows they'll never win anything with turnover like that ...... This isn't the 1970s.Teams don't keep the same players for a decade. Players get moved in and out ... some because they no longer fit on the field .... some don't fit in the locker room .... and some don't fit financially. Pardon me for not bemoaning the fate of any of the players who contributed to a 4-12 season ..... and especially an offense that failed to score a TD in the final 6 entire freakin' games .... or a defense that gave up 350 points. Our 1999 expansion defense gave up 437 ..... just for comparison's sake. In 2000 it improved to 419 ..... then to 319 in 2001. 2002 saw us give up 320 ... and Davis was fired (or resigned .... or whatever) in season. The roster was "blown up" after that year. Take a look Todd .... this defense has SUCKED each and every year since this team returned from oblivion. We obviously need soemthing that is not here. Now, I happen to really like Shaun Rogers. I think he's potentially a Hall of Fame type talent. He played great last year ... without much help from anyone around him. I hope like crazy that he stays and performs like he did last year. However .... if it doesn't work out, I'll hope that whetever we do does. I'm certainly not going to whine and complain before the team even sets foot on the field for an off-season OTA. Maybe it might be better to see what happens after the draft and post draft releases/signings take place. I, for one, am sick and tired of hearing about all of this supposed "talent" that was left behind by the last guys .... when it didn't translate one iota to success on the field! Give me less "talent" and more wins, and I'll take that any and every day of the year.

Porter is saying many of the same things that quite a few people on here have already posted at one time or another....he didn't say anything out of line, he just speculated and ranted as a fan would do, and he did so with the intent to get people to read it and discuss it, because that is what sells.
