Ya .. I agree ... breaks, then horn .... lights to me is when u have TIME ... and if u have time for the lights ... then u have time for the breaks ...
I have no clue nor am I passing judgement on what happend ... I will take sheps stance and wait and see till the investigation is complete ..... that part just mystifies me ... why the hell would u not hit the breaks???
arch .. I'm no car expert ... quite frankly, I do not even know enough to be considered a novice .. *L* .... so i could be way wrong when i say this ... but if I'm going 50 or over and i hit my breaks and try and stop immediately ... the rubber on the pavement friction is going to leave a mark no matter what type of breaks u have ...
maybe I'm wrong .. as i know squat about cars .. but the break system to me would not insulate the tire rubber from leaving marks on the pavement .. am i wrong?? .. and if so how do anti lock breaks do that??? ...

no one really knows at this point .. depends on what type of bonus it was ... if it was a roster bonus prolly not cause its earned the day hes on the roster so there would be no re-course ....
and its not disrespectful in my eyes .. things like this happen everyday in our country .... the only reason we even know or care about this one is cause of Donte ...

Who knows buddy.. guess we all wait for the investigators to do what they do best. We'll know soon enough what happened.
But, I do agree flashing lights is gotta be the last thing you do after you haul the car down and evade whatever is in your path of travel.
Now, Florida DOES bring up a good point, Donte could be traveling in the direction of the sunrise and could have lost sight of the guy in the sun. We just speculating tho.

all the more reason to slow down, the guy has a rich man's ego thinking he is above the law, and doesnt need to slow down or obey traffic laws. he made no attempt to slow down due to the fact there was no skid marks, he thought that flashing his headlights and the honking of the horn would be good enough, he thought that some peasant should get out of his way instead of him following the rules of the road! i didnt care for stallworth before this happened and now as the facts start coming out the more and more im starting to not like him even more. if he had time to honk and flash his lights he could have hit the breaks...not skid marks means he didnt even try to! i hope they throw the book at him, im tired of these guys thinking they are above the law, and above everyone else cause they get paid millions!

The repost I just hear on TV(I will try to find it online) stated that it was reported by a witness at the scene that Stallworth pulled around a stopping car that was in front of him in order to beat a red light and that charges for DUI,reckless Op,and Vehicular Manslaughter are being wokred up.

Report: Stallworth To Be Charged After Pedestrian's Death YouTube Video Show's Sobriety Test
POSTED: 7:24 am EDT March 16, 2009 UPDATED: 1:37 pm EDT March 16, 2009
MIAMI, Fla. -- Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte' Stallworth is reportedly expected to be charged after he was the driver in an accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian on Saturday morning.
According to Yahoo Sports, driving under the influence, vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving are among the possible charges.
A Miami Herald report stated that 59-year-old Mario Reyes was the victim involved and that Stallworth appeared to drive his Bentley around a stopped vehicle to beat a red light.
Reyes was apparently on his way home from work as an overnight crane operator and was walking to a bus stop.
Video was posted on The Miami Herald's Web site showing the accident scene and Stallworth taking a sobriety test. Warning: the beginning of the video shows emergency crews working on the victim, who later died at the hospital. You can view the video here.
Stallworth joined the Browns for the 2008 season as a free agent and caught a career-low 17 passes for 170 yards with a touchdown in just 11 games. He was hampered by a quadriceps injury for much of the season.
The seven-year veteran from Tennessee has also played for New Orleans, Philadelphia and New England. He was selected by the Saints with the 13th overall selection of the 2002 NFL Draft.
Stallworth has 296 receptions for 4,383 yards with 32 touchdowns in his career. His best season came in 2005 with New Orleans, when he caught 70 passes for 945 yards and seven touchdowns, the year before he signed with the Eagles as a free agent.

Wow, you read a lot into an article that states he cooperated with police. I bet he even told the cop to go get him a donut and some coffee.

I have a very healthy hatred of law enforcement officials---so I would prolly be on Donte's side no matter what---even if he didn't rock the Orange and Brown.
The fact that they are trying to figure out a way to charge him is stupid in my opinion---it was an accident, everybody just needs to move on.

Or perhaps they're just trying to figure out IF THEY SHOULD charge him.... nah, they're "The System", so it can't be something innocuous like that

it was an accident, they need to figure out what happened and why - and if it was preventable, then people need to be held accountable for their actions.... something which, based upon your posting history here, you would be completely incapable of comprehending.

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried.
All I know about stallworth is he hasn't helped the Browns, therefore, I don't care for him as a player.
As a person, he has rights. He also has obligations that go with those rights. His income should not even be brought up, but it does appear that your jealousy has reared its ugly head. So if he was poor, it wouldn't be his fault? Grow up.
Now, maybe after - AFTER - the investigation is completed he will be charged. But dude, you have him in prison based on...........based on what again? Oh, nothing.
No skid marks? Know anything about ABS? From the views I saw of the car, there is no clue as to whether he braked or not. Sorry, there will NOT be skidmarks like you're looking for, even if he had stood on the brakes. There might, MIGHT be "chatter" marks, but they will NOT be dark black.

I hadn't heard that.. what did I miss.. did they already have the trial, did the results of the blood tests come back proving he was under the influence and couldn't control his car..I hadn't heard any of this...
When did he get proven guilty? what the hell did I miss now

Makes me think of some movies, and how some sound editors just don't grasp the concept. I've heard squeals from cars peeling out in dirt, or braking on a wet or snowy road. =)

It's pretty easy to recognize this comment as one of those things that you say just to get a rise out of people... but I'll play along anyway..
Tell that to the family of the dead guy.... Sorry, but if Stallworth was accelerating to beat a red light or weaving into another lane to beat a red light, or failed to try to stop so he could beat the redlight or if he was under the influence.... then this is a crime, not an accident. It's amazing what people will risk to avoid sitting at a stop light for 2 minutes.

Dude, you normally make a decent amount of sense around here....but this post is about the most confusing thing I've read in a long time. Creating laws to hopefully prevent manslaughter by drunks is just the thing I want my government to do.

What does that even mean? Forget about the guy that died? Say, "oh well, wrone place, wrong time. Let's go get lunch." If Donte was drinking and tried running a red light....and then killed a guy, he NEEDS to be put away for a long time. It's not fate or an act of God, it was a preventable accident. Put away the booze, follow the traffic laws and that dude goes home to his family instead of in a bodybag.
Come on man, nobody has a time machine. Things are preventable.

While I agree with you DC...lets not forget that this guy was obviously IN THE STREET while the light was NOT RED and HAD NOT YET CHANGED to red. So While yes I do agree with Stallworth's responsibility of wrecklessness in trying to beat a light(if in fact that is what happened)....What about the stupidity of the pedestrian????There is blame to be had on his end as well.
I thought I was wrong once....but I was mistaken...

its not me being jealous, im just stating the truth. you cannot tell me that he is not at fault. i dont care if he had something in his system or not, he was speeding and not paying attention to traffic, also have read in this thread that he was passing a car so he could run a red light. so that tells me that mr bigshot doesnt feel like he needs to, or should have to follow the rules of the road. he killed someone with his car due to the fact that he didnt follow the speed limit, and the street lights. drunk or not he is at fault....dont give me this crap about the sun being in his eyes, if thats the case then he shouldnt have been speeding around, running red lights....i hope that he is found guilty and gets sent to prison, we get our money back and give it to a wr who will actually earn their paycheck!

I love how the fact that he wasn't very productive for us last year has convinced half of the people in this thread that he must've been hammered and obviously believes that since he is an NFL player that laws don't apply to him. It's not as if there aren't a hundred different possible sets of circumstances that could come into play here. And forget that it would be bad law on the part of the prosecutor's office if they weren't prepared to charge him with a crime should anything come back indicating that he was impaired. The only thing that nobody is talking about is why the victim was halfway across a 6-lane highway when the light wasn't red.
And I'm not defending Donte because he plays for the Browns, I'm defending him because he's presumed to be innocent until proven guilty.

well just look around the leauge man...its full of criminals who think that rules dont apply to them. if Donte Stallworth was named Bob Johnson you wouldnt even care let alone waste time talking about if he was or was not guilty.
the only reason anyone is saying anything is cause he is a Brown, and they want to look good in front of the rest of the posters. the guy was speeding, instead of stopping he honked his horn and flashed his lights at him, if this was such a big road as some claim then why didnt he try to steer out of the guys way....hmm probly cause he wasnt paying attention to the road

Like so many other things about this story, I do not know that to be true... you state it's obvious, but we don't know if the light had changed or when it changed or how far this guy was in the street.

I only know what I've read in the articles and most of that appears to be very "unofficial".... if somebody comes out and says the pedestrian was doing something wrong, then I'll consider that... for now it appears that the vast majority of the blame goes on Stallworth.

DC...while its not explicitly stated, its implied by what we are being told are the facts of the situation.
If Stallworth didn't run a red light; that is, if the light were green, then the pedestrian was quite obviously in the road when he wasn't supposed to be.
If he was racing through a "pink light", then the pedestrian still would not have been given the proper signal to cross, as the light would not have been red yet.
If the light had just turned red when he went through, that means that in order to have been legally in the crosswalk, there would have been time for the crossing signal to change, and the pedestrian would then have time to cross three lanes of highway traffic before being struck.
All of these assume, of course, that the pedestrian was even crossing in the crosswalk. Every article so far has been ambiguous at best on that detail, and most of them stated that it is not known whether or not he was. We do know, though, that the bus stop he was trying to reach was a good 100 feet or so down the road from the intersection. Footage of the accident site shows the victims shoes to the east of the accident site (in an eastbound lane), but its impossible to determine if they're far enough down that they could've been knocked that distance by the impact, or if the accident actually occurred east of the intersection and crosswalk, in which case the guy would've been crossing illegally.

I've not seen where it said he was speeding. I've seen where it says the limit is 50 mph, but I've not seen where he was going in excess of that. Can you point that out? Or are you just ASSuming again?

I'll be honest, I've been guilty of that on occasion too. And I'm not a Mr. Bigshot.

You've been saying this since the story hit. Yes he did kill someone. Speed, lights and his impairment have not yet been proven afaik.
Quote:

I agree, if he was driving into the sun down here, he should have been more careful. And he shouldn't have been speeding (But again, I've still not seen where he was shown to be speeding).

This seems to be your thought as a whole. Get passed his poor year last year as a player and start thinking about the HUMAN and the tragedy that happened. Compassion is your friend. Spitefulness will not breed good things.

Very little so far is explicitly stated, most of what we "know" at this point is either speculation or heresay... which is why all I've done is toss out hypotheticals. But it is my belief that as more solid news comes out that it won't be good for Donte.... I have no real basis for that since I've read the same news as everybody else, just call it a "gut" feeling but I do not expect this to end well for Stallworth.... and I mean beyond just the psychological aspect of living with the fact that he killed a man, whether it was his fault or not.

guilty guilty guilty....
whatever!
I believe some people are going to be eating crow... Keep in mind people... a speed limit of 50 is like driving on the shoreway and some jacknut darts across it... (Btw, I don't know when the last time I did 50 on the shoreway its more like 65-70.)
Not many people really know what happened and the rest of America is getting all jacked up on speculaiton. How about some people take the wait and see approach? I don't comment much on stuff like this because we never know what happened till it all comes out. A few days of silence before hanging Donte out to dry would do a few people's respect level some good on this board. JMHO

Well I'll be a SOB ... technology .. what a wonderful thing ... *L* ... I didn't look at the photos or any of that stuff .... like I said I;ll let the pros figure it out and wait till all the info is in before hanging or absolving him .... it still bothers me that honking and lights were mentioned by wherever that came from but breaking wasn't .. could be many reasons for that being ommited so I guess it shouldn't bother me .... they showed video on NFL Live tonight .... it showed the officers giving him what appeared to be a field sobriety test ... they had a red light in front of him and appeared to be moving it from side to side to see how he followed it .. but u do not really know what they were doing .. just another GUESSTIMATE witch is about all we really know at this point other than someones dead and donte was driving and it happend in a causeway near a bus stop .. they also said the blood tests should be released by the end of the week ... Oh wait .. we also know one more thing ... if Donte is arrested ... no matter what the charge is .... Darden will then paint Donte as the victim ...

Interesting that, as pointed out by Toad in another thread, the eye-witness account that Stallworth swerved around a stopped car has been retracted by the Miami Herald...

It's tough because, like I said, it was removed from the article. Here is a link to the article in its current form: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/broward/story/951867.htmlThere is an article posted by christy near the top of this page (page 4 on my browser) that references the witness as well. It appears that the source for that article was the Miami Herald, as they also posted the video from the Herald's article. Its the same one that contains the video of the sobriety test being performed...I think somebody posted it earlier. If you go back one page, Kingodawg makes reference to the eye-witness account in one of his posts, probably 1/2 to 2/3 of the way down the page. It's also referenced here by Mike Florio at PFT: http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/03/16/report-charges-coming-against-stallworth/ (I hope posting that link isn't violating anything, as its simply there to back up the fact that the article had information removed). Also, and you'll have to decide whether or not you believe me on this (especially since deception seems to be the order of the day), since christy's article referenced Yahoo! Sports, I checked what they were reporting as well. When I searched for "Stallworth" in their search engine, two articles from today showed up. I clicked the older of the two, and when I clicked back, the link to the more recent article was no longer there. I didn't get to read it so I have no idea what info, if any, it had.

Let's also note that major intersections in Florida typically have a pretty decent delay between one side getting a red like and anyone else getting a Green or pedestrian walk sign.
As for going around a car to make a light? I've done it, it's not uncommon down here for some of the elderly drivers and tourists to actually slow down for a green light in anticipation that it "might" change.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

In Florida yellow means "hurry up you'll make it."
My dad has lived in Florida for a long time and I know how long the yellow lights are.
