Paying HUGE dollars to a center wouldn't have been a good move
I'll keep to my view that they merely need to move Hadnot over..I've never said he's the end all-be all, but I think he can handle drive blocking better than Fraley..

That was my stance as well when the season ended. He clearly isn't a starting guard. Maybe he can be a center again.

I don't see the logic in moving a aging injury prone Tucker over to spot of importance that he played way back when...Hadnot played 16 games for the Fins only two+ years ago..thats the logical move.

It's also a good year to draft a OT/OG..and WR's/RB's/LB..see?

Which is why I was for bringing in Birk.

He signed a 3-year $12 million dollar deal. That's not a bunch of dough for a proven player. Sure, he's a short-term player, but instead of using that 2nd rounder on a center, we could have filled another one of our defensive holes, or plugged in a receiver, which has suddenly become a desperate need.

Paying HUGE dollars to a center wouldn't have been a good move. What Birk got isn't the same. Remember, Fraley is getting $1.3 million this year You can do the math. We could have used that draft selection on a big need while solving the center problem for the next couple of years at a cost of about $2-$3 million per season. That's nothing.

I like Birk as well, but why on Earth would he come to the Browns for the same $$$ he got from the Ravens. They are contenders now...we are not.

If we are truly serious about getting more from OC this year, then I assume that our FO called his agent, found out the price for us and moved on.

IMO, every single draft has a set of standout WRs, standout RBs, standout DBs and standout QBs. However, not every draft is as deep as this one for things like LB and OL which just so happen to be big areas of need for us.

I'd be perfectly happy if we got some true stud LB and OL in the 1st 2 rounds, then we fill in the "skill positions" like WR, DB and RB next year when there'll be guys that are just as good (hypothetically).

That being said, I'd still love to get one of those positions of need (LB or OL) in the 1st and 2nd and use one our 2nd rounders on McCoy.

Exactly! And as it stands, with our first three picks we need an LB, OT, CB, C, WR, S & RB. With our 4th round pick we need an OG, DB/S and DE, then with our 7th round pick, we obviously go BPA.

i see Hadnot as a bandaid at center, i don't think he is the guy we want there long term. I think it makes alot of sense that Kok is looking at a center. The free agent signings have a bunch of bodies at guard and RT- so maybe we are not addressing that in the draft this year. Hadnot with center experience adds the depth with versatility to play guard.

Yeah I would definitly trade down (although I don't see anyone wanting to climb up to take someone in this years draft). I would also unload DA and pick up another 3rd. The 1st 3 rounds are where you get your starters from, and as someone mentioned it could be argued we need 7 new starters...........problem is we currently have 3 picks in the money rounds. We have to acquire more draft picks.

U can add safety to the list..we're going to have to draft one.
There's no way Adams is going to be a good safety for this team..Pool has had too many lights out on the ole head to be reliable..so for me it goes:
LB
Olinemen
S
WR

That's a HUGE HUGE assumption to make, considering we made no moves at all when it came to looking at established veterans.

You're also making the assumption that Birk wouldn't have wanted to come here. Maybe a few hundred more thousand a year would have done the trick.

It comes back to my point which is that we could have........SHOULD HAVE........done more than what we've done.

While I like Matthews I don't like him that much being on the outside...I think he'd perform better down inside..I'd rather get a OLB that actually gets consistant pressure/sacks on the QB..and there'sonly a few in the draft that actually do it.

we could let him play ILB, and just go thru the pains until next years FA/Draft if we cannot get Curry in the first round this year... but if he is gone i think we have to look at crabtree in the first, then we can still adress center in the second round.

Jeeeezzzzuuuzzzzzzzzzz...

This might shape up to be BPA for the 1st 3 picks...

I see 2 MAJOR HOLES...And that means CAPABLE STARTER...

#2 WR (Stallworth will be released as soon as his BAC is made public)
Safety (Adams is depth on 32 teams)

Someone needs to get on the damn phone with Torry Holt's Agent...TODAY...

I could easily see us going in with Hall and Bowens on one side...And Barton/DQ/Williams Inside...Wimbley on the other...

If we don't sign a receiver prior to the draft...CRABTREE'S A BROWN...

I can also see us goin' in with a threesome of Tucker/Womack/St. Clair on the right side...With Fraley...

Get yourself prepared for something like this...

5 Crabtree WR
36 Hood DE (Smith's Injury???)
50 Johnson Safety

G-Damn u Stallworth...

I agree, I made a big assumption. Just as it's a huge assumption to make that we didn't contact his agent.

The only other point I could see is if the FO is sold on both Alex Mack and Unger being capable to start at OC next season. If that is the case and they are certain at least one will fall to us at #36 (and Unger should), then it would also make sense to pass on paying more $$ to Birk when they could get a longterm solution cheaper.

If the Browns don't address the LB situation w/ the 5th pick... I don't see them bringing another LB in here until Day 2 of the draft... ie. Follett and Brinkley...

I really think Mangini and Kokinis draft o-line and snag a WR in round 2.

I love the thought of OL at 36. I've been hoping that either Mack or Unger would be there. Seems like since Thomas was drafted many forgot that you have to build a strong line to win. Both these guys can start, and while we may have stop gaps on the right side, from center to LT we will be set for the long haul.

I want Curry, but it looks like he will be gone. That makes me think Crabtree is the pick, or Everette Brown. Then take Mack at 36. 50 should be the BPA at S,LB,WR,or RB.

I still see DA being moved on draft day and that could be critical. He should bring at least a 3rd. Heck we might get a trade for a player and a pick.

The moves these guys are making, are putting players on the roster. While not big stars, they all can play. If the draft goes well, and the team attitude prevails, it might be a better season then many think.

I would love for Mack to still be there at #36, but I just don't see it. He is the best interior lineman in this draft and those guys usually go in the early 20's.

Mack at #36 would be a godsend, either way we have to take the BPA in round 2. As for round one, if we walk away with anyone but Brown or Orakpo, I will blow my TV away with a 12 gauge.

Promise? I want to see pics of your TV after the 12 gauge hits it, if that happens. Slugs, buckshot, or double-aught?

Back to the centers; Depending on who else is there at 36 would determine if I took a center or not (@ 36). I prefer Eric Wood myself, at #50, he can play all three guard spots. I'd like to see him as the RG his rookie year then move inside once Fraley is done (either retires, released, contact not resigned, or loses the job).

Don't get me wrong, Mack would be a good addition as well, however I would rather spend #36 on a higher 'need' for the team. If it comes down to BPA (and that turns out to be Mack) then I'm all for it.

Now that is a great way to look at it. I'm not as sold on Mr. Wood (I know I'm in the minority on that one) but I like the way you are looking at it.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong ...... but didn't Hadnot play Center for the Dolphins?

Not to alarm anyone ..... but we could have our "stronger" Center already on the team.

If we don't sign a receiver prior to the draft...CRABTREE'S A BROWN...

Maybe..maybe not..there are a lot of potiential # 2 receivers in this draft...and I still want a trade down from the 5th spot.
And I'd prefer we do go down and get a backer..we really need one..or two.

Plus, IMO, there are good WRs in every draft. I mean, this isn't a draft where there are more or less good WRs than any other draft. But, in this draft, there are some very good LBs and OL to get, and that's not always something that's available.

If Crabtree is the next best thing and we pick him at no. 5, I won't be mad. But if we don't and we have Edwards as our no. 1 and someone as our no. 2 (whether drafted later or just get by with someone we have now), we can always pick up good WRs next year in the draft or possibly FA.

I guess I'm just not as much in a hurry to get a WR this year as I am to get defense and the trenches. I am a firm believer that defense wins championships and that the O-line is the most important part of a good offense.

Need to have the next in line IN LINE. The idea of a coordinated coach and FO plan just leaves me, well, tingly.
Has something this radical been tried before? I like some of the names the Mangini Magnet has pulled in so far. They may not be great, may not be god enough, but hey, better than we had. And coaching better if it shows will help. Should be a roster limit on COACHES in the NFL, heck with players.

Receivers are a dime a dozen once you get an established one on 1 side of the field. Have to focus on true hard-core needs first then worry about filling in depth later in the draft.

June 1st cuts will not be beneficial this year because of the lack of a CBA extension, there is no spreading out the cap hit to next year, it all falls on this year's cap.......therefore the bulk of the wheeling and dealing has been done.

The reality is we don't have a # 2wideout or a possession (not drugs ) receiver..so drafting one won't be for depth but to start..the names on the roster are crap..so they are depth..crappy depth..
I'm not advocating taking Crabtree with the first pick..I'm only pointing out that with one of the first 3-4 picks Kokinis will have to draft one..

I have heard the Browns want two LB's in this draft...well nothing should stop them from getting two..plus a center/Olineman and a safety..
But they're going to need to get another pick or two.

What would be wrong with taking Crabtree? I´m not a big fan of WR in the top 10 let alone top 5 but as of now we have no starters for 2010 and if you want a good WR you have to draft 1 THIS year to get some production as starter NEXT year...what you said about WR can be said about every other position....lot´s of good interior OL were picked in mid to late rounds (ask the Pats)...

It´s all about priorities and "must" need as ManKok put it...WR is a huuuge MUST right now, since we traded our WR-TE hybrid, cut JJ and Stallworthless fked up....we have 1year of sloppy BE left and what else? Steptoe and Hubbard...wow...if we want to develop Quinn this becomes an even bigger priority

Yeah, let´s overdraft some project like Robiskie in the 2nd (who´s a pure #2 in my book btw, he simply hasn´t the #1 mentality and hates to go over the middle...he´s a finesse WR...I´ve had enough of those pusses out there, let´s get a bulldog like Crabtree once and for all) or some other 1 dimensional WR in the 4th to become our #1 next year

We have 4 MUST need areas as of now: OLB, WR, S and CB...and if Curry´s gone we have to pick the BPA who matches 1 of the MUST needs, that´d be Crabtree as of now imho...no DB is worth it at #5 and no conversion DE/OLB

#2's easy...Sign Holt...

Problem is after this year we won't have a #1 either...

Be prepared for Crabtree...

Rather have the LB at 5 or down and a Britt in 2...But don't be surprised if we go Carb's if he's rated 1-2-3 on our board...

I thought I stated my reasonings....I don't believe in taking wideouts that high..and building around them..especially when you have a deep draft..and a starter doesn't have to necessarily come from the first pick.

Yes it is a need ..and yes he would start..but so would just about 3- 5 other recievers I have on my board..and they can come anywhere from round 2 -4.
U brought up Robo's name..nowhere have I even mentioned wanting him..

In your book you don't want any of the hybrid ends..but that doesn't mean Kokinis/Mangini will pass ..
The solution for all of these needs to for them to aquire more picks..and I hope they are working on that now..

I wish, but it's hard for me to believe that someone like Holt meshes with the direction the regime has chosen to take.

I'm rather shocked to have read how many people don't believe in Robiskie. I think he's going to be a pretty solid possession receiver, but what do I know. I only thought Matt Jones would be a bust, and that Calvin Johnson would be great.

Why are you shocked?
I've never been impressed with him at all..against top teams he was virtually non factor..I said this in the draft forum..I really wonder if he can get seperation from pro corners..
He runs good routes..and has good hands..but he's not in my fave five
