If I was in the NFL... my first million would be put in a high interest savings account.. I would kill on interest!!!

And if I had to stop playing... I would try to live off the interest made each month...

Of course my lifestyle would not be lavish... but who cares.. lol... the next mil I made I would have bought a house and paid it off...

I don't understand how players mismanage their money....

NFL players are like rappers.... You can't play forever... You can't rap forever... The money won't last forever... INVEST!!

You sound like you read the book I haven't written yet (didn't want to lie,... )

And when you find that high interest savings account, please publicize,... (A CD would do though, huh ?)

I guess I should have directed that part of my post to everyone in general, not just you. I want to find out from the Mangini bashers what their rationale is.

I don't think I'm a basher (really don't post enough to be one lol), but I am pretty skeptical about this regime. I can't speak for everyone, but I think a lot of the people that are complaining are sick of tearing the team down every few seasons at the whims of a new guy. I agree with some of his moves, disagree with others. I think he has handled Rogers real poorly so far for instance.

I don't have a choice but to give the guy a chance. He's the coach whether i think it was a good move or not. I hope that all my concerns turn out to be unfounded...because that will mean the team is successful.

Stole my feelings again,.... If the Browns win the Super Bowl this coming season, 90% of what is now on this board will have to be retracted---my crap included. And Rogers and Mangini will probably be leading the bearhug-fest.

Heck I'd be satisfied with not sucking lol. I want to really be competetive, but I'm tired of getting harassed by Steeler fans about how bad the team has been.

But don't take my word for it. Take Rogers' agents word for it:

thats proof??? Cause his agent said so... and I thought I was naive.

Yeah but most Steeler fans just became Steeler fans in the 90's and have no clue about Browns or Steeler history.

Most of the Ohio Steeler fans are total bandwangon people, and have almost zero football knowledge. Atleast the Ohio Steeler fans I know in my family, friends, coworkers.

This whole Shaun Rogers thing sure won't help, our best player is ticked off. And the way this offseason has went, we might just cut him and replace him with some NYJ castoff looser that likes EM.

Everyone seems to be taking sides on this, it really doesn't matter. We can't lose this guy, period. This situation is going to show a whole lot about Kok and EM.

I said this before, and I'll say it again....if EM wasn't in the wrong, he would have never reached out PUBLICLY through the media to Shaun Rogers. People just can't get it that respect means alot to these rich, spoiled brats. They have everything else they could want, except respect.

Rogers knows the Browns are going to pick up his bonus, he just wants some love here. EM better freaking LEARN from this Cutler ordeal, when he gets the chance. MAKE SURE he patch's things up.

I never looked at it like that. Maybe Rogers doesn't fancy being tied to an oar with a sinking ship? Maybe he's still recovering from busting his guts just to watch the team fall apart around him? He sure didn't leave anything behind on the field. Who knows? As a fan I can afford to give him a pass based on what he did last year, at least until this year starts.

I'll start worrying if he doesn't show for camp or weighs more than Ted Washington.

Someone help me here...where have we "torn down the roster"?

Winslow? Very good trade all things considered

JJ? Love the guy...but he is done

SJones?...Nah...Whatever

Shaffer?...Uh...nope

Now...if we trade JT...DQ...Cribbs...or Pontbriand...I will think we have a tear-down in process...otherwise we have a lot of upgrading to do.

Rogers is being a donkey. I wouldn't cave in to him if I were EM. We aren't going to win the Super Bowl next year whether SR plays or not.

I hope EM really starts with the hardball now...and I hope Koki finds a trade partner for SR

I see where Toad is coming from with these types of players...I just take the opposite stance in that - while building a team - if the guy does not want to be here, then get rid of him.

Trade Edwards...Rogers...and DA and pick up a boatload of Day 1 picks.

Could you imagine what could be done with...say...6-8 picks in this draft's first three rounds? Think Herschel Walker trade and its impact on the then-woeful Cowboys. Dreaming? Probably...but maybe not.

Why do so many of you guys and so many sports writers just absolutely hate Mangini? Why are you so unwilling to give the guy a chance? I mean, what's our record under Mangini? Can someone answer that?

Most the "fans" that hate Mangini do so because the Cleveland sports writers tell them too.

The Cleveland sports writers hate Mangini because he doesn't give the media much access or info. Remember when every writer in Cleveland was freaking out that the Browns fire/layed off 15-20 $50k a year employees? What do you want to bet that those were the same employees that have been leaking inside info to the media for all these years?

No proof of that other than the day it happened all the "inside sources" dried up and every sports writer clammored about how terrible Mangini was to let THESE employees go. Since the firings the leaks are gone.

Make a sports writers job harder and they'll take it out on you in their column. Many fans are happy to adopt the media's opinion as their own.

Maybe Rogers is just a fat guy that doesn't want to work up a sweat in March

He wouldn't be the first. Mangini gave him an excuse and he's taking it. Rogers strikes me as a guy that like playing football - not practicing.

The reality is that he can skip everything but training camp and still be the best DT or NT on the team.

And he knows it.

Just Clickin,
A Coach, no matter what he says can MAKE a player show up for VOLUNTARY workouts. Now when he misses MANDATORY workouts, then it might be a news item! And for all those one the "He must want more money" path, as he asked for any money yet?? Has is agent made a statement/leaked a statement as such?? NOPE! And again, Where is Lerner?? Maybe if the big owner talked to the two parties, then it might not be an issue at this point!!

Hilarious...yeah, I can imagine....we´d draft the next lazy NT, the next primadonna WR and hope they become close to what those 2 can do....we are getting prospect happy again around here = a sure sign we suck and need all the "hope" we can get, lol

when Savage traded that 2nd and 3rd rounder for Williams and Rogers he got a DL you´d only dream of getting with late 2nd and 3rd roudn picks...think about it...just for a moment

This is a news item because of the reported problems that have already happened. If nothing was said by Rodgers no one would care. I know that I'm worried at this point. Rodgers is too good to let go and has proven he doesn't play hard if he is not motivated.

Pdawg,
Again I say, Lerner calls agent, agent calls Rogers. Lerner calls Mangini, reminding him of who he is and is not! Mangini and Rogers talk after a Mandatory workout/session..etc, with Lerner in room. Problem solved! Now can someone please find me a #2 receiver, that is a more pressing need right now because our NT is under contract and until there are Mandatory workouts, he does not have to be no where near Cleveland.

Sometimes you gotta use common sense. When it comes to AGENTS, it's about money if they say it's about money, and it's about money when they don't say anything at all.

But ask yourself this question: When was the last time an agent said it wasn't about money when it really was? Go ahead, think about it. Who was the last player's agent who denied it was about getting a new contract when it was really about getting a new contract.

It's an open question. Anyone can answer. Give me a couple of examples.

The problem here with the fans is that is that for whatever reason, it's just too damned hard for many of you to accept just how much of a Nazi Mangini is trying to be because of who taught him the business, and just how much of a "Big Baby" (C'mon people, do you think he got that name because he's a philanthropist ) Rogers really is.

There's a ton of reaching going on here, by the fans and by the media. It's about money........he doesn't want to be part of a losing team..........BALDERCRAP

This is a simple problem created by huge ego's. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm amazed at how cynical many of you are, though perhaps I shouldn't be. This is borderline conspiracy theory crap...........

1. I won't disagree one bit that THIS is all about ego's - but I also would not discount one single bit that money is a factor.

2. An agent is a Lawyer... you know they are lying if their lips are moving or their lungs draw breath - and EVERYTHING is about money with them. That's their job.

3. I see absolutely zero reason that both things can't be at work here. I don't see it at all being that far out of the realm of probability that Haynesworth gets $100M, which makes Rogers a bit jealous... which enables him to get that much more annoyed at Magnini that much easier. Everyone is arguing for one answer or the other... things don't have to (and rarely, if ever, do) happen in a vacuum. It is QUITE likely that it is a combination of factors and not just a single isolated thing like not getting his diaper changed by Mangini at whatever party it was they were at.

In an unlikely move, you, sir, have just give lawyers a bad name by comparing them to agents

I'll tell you another reason I don't believe this is about money. I think it's unlikely that Rogers would get a deal right now that far exceeds the deal he has in place.

Let's say he could get a deal which would match his $6 million in bonuses in the first year plus his salary. At this stage in the game, there wouldn't be as many teams in play for his services because of the timing of it all. He'd be walking away from $8.6 million this year in order to gamble on getting more. I don't believe that's a likely scenario. We're talking about an exceedingly prideful individual here.

Once he and 'Gini kiss and make up, I think you might just shake your head at how pettiness created this situation, and how simple it really was.

Toad I believe you hit the nail on the head. It seems to be a problem with both of them and the personalities they have.

The problem then is which one should change their way of dealing with business. Mangini is here to stay, he will not be fired or in any way be relieved of his duties anytime in the near future. On the other hand Rogers is like any other player who can and have been replaced at any time.

Rogers can be traded, released, or go down with an injury (I hope not) at any time. If Rogers wants out then I say oblige him and move on or he could turn into a cancer in the locker room that could do more damage then replacing him.

I'm of the camp that the boss is always right even when he's wrong!

Geez after thinking about it you may be right. He has been with this team a total of 1 year and we did so much better with him than we had since our return in 99.

I admit he is very good but so was LeCharles Bently and we went on after his injury. The point I'm trying to make is this team will still play games on Sunday with or without Shaun Rodgers and none of us know if we will win. Who knows we could possibly get a couple of picks out of him and get a future HOF player. Maybe a nose tackle.

If he stays here and is not happy he will play like he does not want to be here, and that has been proven as part of his history.

I don't think Rogers is worth that kind of coddling.

Hmmmm...lets see, the best player (by far) on a so-so defense...maybe with a 5M payment due, and perhaps a hard contract to trade...i'd say it would be wiser for for mangini to make up, don't you think?

THEN trade him for the #2's someone mentioned...otherwise we'll cut him AFTER paying the 5M and get nothing, or see him the way he was in detroit-and nobody wants that.

Sometimes a good GM/coach (i'm not sure which mangini is, lol) has to make choices he might not personally like.

I personally think that Rogers is a beast, but if he is gonna be a "T.O." type of player, then get rid of him as fast as possible.....and if that is the route we HAVE to go, then Denver makes perfect sense to try and set up some sort of a blockbuster move.....but, me personally, I would rather have Rogers, and hope they can kiss and make up......

Did you watch any Browns football last season? Any and all defense we had came as a result of Rogers drawing double and triple teams. W/o him, there is no doubt we are 32nd in the NFL on defense.

Comparing Bentley to Rogers is inept at best, Rogers has played here and proven to be the best DT in the AFC. Bentley never played, it was all hype.

Oh yeah, how many games did we win the year Bentley went down?

We can't replace Rogers, what are we supposed to use the #5 on Raji? And fill another hole created by EM? When we could actually be BUILDING the talent instead of going in reverse at 100mph?

If this is how every star with an ego or contract demands is going to be treated, it is a 100% gurantee EM and Kok will blow their entire tenure here. The more talent and stars you gather, obviously there will be problems and yes CONTRACT DEMANDS!

Hell, if there is one guy on this team that deserves a monster deal and his belly rubbed it is Shaun Rogers!

Then again, we can get rid OF PROVEN TALENT, HOF TALENT, for a pick that may or may not be good. And hopefully never wants a new deal, and a guy that doesn't act like every other spoiled millionaire brat.

Rogers is not a saint, there is no doubt that he is acting wrongly. But unfortunately star players get wiggle room...I.E. James Harrison, Santonio Holmes.....super bowl studs that had serious issues but weren't dealt away. They were patted on the head.

We can go the route of hardass, choir boy team, and cut every non-saint, whiny player and loose for another decade. EM better learn from his supposed teacher Billy and learn to manage star ego's and how to be a better player coach or he will get the same results Billy did until he learned.

If this is what the NFL attitude has come to, that one player can be coddled (because he has talent) while others must follow the rules of the coach then this must be why I and others have lost respect for football.

The game has passed me by if your opinion is the popular one! And that could be why I have lost the excitement of kicking some ass on Sunday afternoon. Or it could be that we have not been able to do that in awhile.

The bottom line is that when any business that starts letting the employees run the show it will eventually fail.

Lets give Shaun what he wants, 1. A coaching position. 2. Freedom to eat all he wants and lay around and eat Bon Bons. 3. Payed the big money to do as he pleases.

If that makes him happy then we should bow down and give it to him because he had one good season with this team.

Well, IMO....just because you have a good season, doesn't give you the right to be a pain in the a$$....look at L.T., Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, etc..etc..etc...there are NUMEROUS players that can do it like a professional and not run their pie hole as soon as their feelings get hurt....I say if he continues to be a cry baby, then we will have to deal him somehow.....I mean, I think when his head is in it, he is unstoppable, but just ask Detroit what happens when his head isn't in it......I agree with you that their is not one sinlge person in the draft that is even in the same area code as Rogers, so if we do lose him, we had better have a plan B......

Terry Pluto's blog: Making Shaun Rogers happy is big challenge for Cleveland Browns
by Terry Pluto / Plain Dealer Columnist
Friday March 20, 2009, 12:01 PM

UPDATED: 8:22 p.m.

CLEVELAND -- Scribbles in my Browns notebook.

1. While some fans gnash their teeth and wish evil things for coach Eric Mangini every time a Brady Quinn rumor is floated, the Browns have a much bigger problem than trying to figure out who should be their quarterback. That's because I believe it will be Quinn, and everything else is posturing to increase the possible trade value of Derek Anderson.

2. Nor is the problem Donte Stallworth. Nothing the Browns can do will change the future of the receiver, who killed a man while driving a week ago. That is purely in the hands of law enforcement. Besides, even with Stallworth -- probably not a favorite because of his history of being hurt and inconsistent -- the Browns are shopping for receivers.

3. The problem is Shaun Rogers, and it's much deeper than the star defensive tackle not being in town for "voluntary workouts." It's also more disconcerting than the split between Mangini and Rogers over the coach not connecting with the player in January when both were at a banquet. That can be repaired.

The problem is money. The problem is Rogers wanted to be a free agent this season, especially after seeing Albert Haynesworth bagged $100 million from Washington. The problem is if Rogers can't get out of his contract now -- and he can't -- he'd love to be a free agent by next season. That's because there might be no salary cap in 2010, according to the NFL labor agreement.

4. For Rogers, the problem is that Mangini and GM George Kokinis love how he plays. So far, they have zero interest in trading him, although Rogers or people in his camp might try to stir up some rumors. This situation is their first big challenge because it can get ugly. The 360-pound Rogers was in an excellent mood last season, loved playing for former coach Romeo Crennel and kept his weight under control. But he has swelled to more than 380 in the past. If he skips spring and early summer workouts ... maybe he will stay in shape, but then again, maybe not.

5. The Browns are very concerned about their defensive line. They see Rogers in the middle, and then there's ... well, Corey Williams, who didn't adjust from a 4-3 in Green Bay to the Browns' 3-4. And there's Robaire Smith, coming off a severe Achilles injuury. And there's Shaun Smith, coming off a fight in the weight room with Quinn. For the Browns, there are lots of holes on the line -- and the last thing they want to do is create a Grand Canyon by losing Rogers.

6. Another problem for Rogers is the contract extension he signed a year ago when dealt by Detroit. Former GM Phil Savage guaranteed $20 million over the first three years of the deal -- which now looks like a very smart move. His 2009 salary is $2.4 million, plus a $6 million roster bonus. In 2010, it's $7 million. Those two years are guaranteed. In 2011, it's $5.5 million; $5.6 million in 2012 and $5.5 million in 2013.

7. Another problem for the Browns is Rogers being a very sensitive man, and when some people do feel neglected or hurt, they struggle to produce their best. The Browns don't just need Rogers physically back in camp, they need him mentally engaged in what the team is doing -- and what Mangini and Rob Ryan want from their defense.

8. The Browns have to decide how to handle this. In the spring, it's easy to say, "Forget the guy, if he's going to be an attitude problem, trade him." That probably won't lead to a good deal. It's what Detroit did last year, sending the Browns a Pro Bowl tackle for Leigh Bodden and a third-round pick. And Bodden is now with New England, so what do they have to show for Rogers? The Browns can't take this approach, they have so few Pro Bowl caliber players already that losing another would be a terrible setback.

9. Not sure if Owner Randy Lerner needs to get involved, but someone has to deliver this message to Rogers: "We are not going to trade you or let you out of the contract. We need you. We know you played hurt last year, that you never complained and you produced. We just did give you a new contract. Keep in mind, you are staying here no matter what. But what can be do to make this situation better?"

10. There has been a trade rumor floating about a three-way deal where the Browns give up Quinn and Rogers, they get Jason Campbell and Chris Cooley from Washington, and Denver sends Jay Cutler to Washington ... and other stuff. I doubt there is any validity to it. Among other things, the Browns like their three tight ends: Steve Heiden, Robert Royal and Martin Rucker, so why deal for Cooley? The Washington Post reported that Redskins GM Vinny Cerrato has denied any interest in a deal for Cutler.

Actually, with this rumor, what the Browns get is bent over. Quinn and Rogers for Campbell and Cooley? I wouldn't trade Rogewrs straight up for Cutler, let alone those two.

NO DOUBT......what the heck is that about....Campbell is GARBAGE....!!! With a capital "G"....and while Cooley is a decent TE, if we wanted a good TE we could have just kept K2......I sure hope that this is nothing more than a "rumor"...I'm with you on not trading Rogers straight up for both of them, let alone BQ too.....that would just be the final nail in the coffin for my opinion about Mangini INC...... ..... .....

well you know one thing that nobody has really considered?

rogers might not be at voluntary workouts because he is over-weight....

they could have easily had a sit down that we don't know about, and rogers expressed displeasure about getting that letter....and mangini said, step on a scale, and i'll admit they were harsh...

would explain why we aren't hearing anything now...

who knows...he's under contract....show up and play...

too much drama for me....

I've been saying this for a while now..., and I think this is the problem...
