Its pretty remarkable after being in the league since 1999,this franchise still has the big "?" at the quaterback position. As we have been told, both QB's have been reviewed by Mangini and Anderson and the conclusion is,"we are going to have a QB battle" What does that tell us?
A) Quinn hasn't played enough to warrant Mangini just giving him the reins of the offense B) Anderson is close to being "fools gold" but they are gonna give him one last chance to show 2007 wasn't a abrerition. I wonder where DA's or Brady's mindsets are now. I think you might see both QB's pressing too much in order to win the field general's job come Sept. I wonder how much of a leash Mangini is going to give the starting QB from Week 1. What if the Browns start out slow out the gate and the starter just isn't getting the job done? In any case the continual search for a QB is the reason why the Browns have struggled since 1999.

Probably that paired with a fan base who craves change. We seriously strip everything down and rebuild every 3 or 4 years--its pathetic.

When you have a fan base with absolutely 0 patience, who clamor for change at every opportunity the team eventually caves. For that reason I hate majority of Brons fans---they all think they know whats best for the team. When I was at the Giants game this past year people were chanting Brady before the game even started.
And midway through the season Crennel gave the fans what they wanted. And after the season was over---Lerner gave the fans what they wanted and fired Crennel.
Hopefully Mangini doesn't cave in to the ludicrous fan base in this town. If you can't see that I don't know what else to say.

What I see is a fan base that has waited 45 years for a championship. So please spare me the drivel that Browns fans are impatient. In fact, I'd say they are the most patient fans in sports. Too patient, actually.
I also get really tired of hearing how the fans got so and so traded or what's his name fired. Fans can moan and groan all they want but unless the GM or owner pulls the trigger no one loses their job(s).
Now if the GM or owner is spineless enough to bow to every whim of the fans then that would be a problem. But I don't think that is what has happened here. C'mon, do you really believe that Crennell was gonna bring this team to the promised land? If you do then you must be married to his daughter because no one else did or does believe that.
And Savage traded away the future to try and save his job and it didn't work. So he paid the price.
Some bad decisions were made by ownership in the past but I don't think the fans had all that much to do with hiring Carmen Policy, Dwight Clark, Chris Palmer....etc.

You know you're right about that.
I had a long post written which would have solved this whole issue as well as some of the world's other problems but the board ate it when I hit submit and I had no backup. So it's gone for good and you all lose because it was really good.

Horsefeathers.
We've gone the quick-change route (Policy era) and we've gone the "continuity" route (Crennel era) and both failed.
The REAL reason we haven't been any good is because the people that Lerner has installed to put the right players on the field and the right coaches on the sideline have failed.
That's it. No if's, and's, or but's. It's not the fans and it's not the media. It's been bad players and bad coaches. Nothing more, nothing less.

Sorry,Daman, the Bengals qb carousel of the 90's wasn't even close to what the Browns have endured since 1999. From 1990-92 Boomer Esasion was the starter. Up until 1990,Boomer was what you could consider a Top 10 qb in the NFL. He left the Bengals in 1992 and had some good years in Arizona. Then the Bengals made a colassal error and drafted a run and shoot QB named David Klinger. He had a horrible o-line and very little running game behind him. History has shown us that "run and shoot" QB's do not fair well in the NFL. Playing out of shotgun and from under center is night day. Combine those factors and you get failure. Then Cincy got lucky and picked up Jeff Blake off waivers from the Jets. From 1994-97,the Blake to Carl Pickens connection the best thing going in the AFC. Blake made the Pro Bowl twice. Threw for over 3,400 yards twice. Always had a good TD to INT ratio. If he had a running behind him, you can imagine the possiblities. Then for some reason, the Bengals acquired Neil O'Donnell in 1998.....For a bad season,he had a great year...15 TDS and 4 INTS and a 90 rating. Then in 1999,the Bengals went back to Blake and he finished with a 77.6 rating...... so has it stands.....the Bengals used 4 different starting QB's in the 90's........ The Browns done that in 3 years time.

Yes, tyler you are correct and no wonder. We crave change because we get coaches/regimes like Botch and then Romeo, people that can't deliver even a sniff of a consistent winning team. we don't demand a team that will win a SB every two years, but a team that can compete, one we can be proud of. Browns fans want a winner, and frankly we deserve one.

I've seen less manure than that on a horse ranch........After 45 years we still haven't even smelled a Super Bowl. I don't think it's too much to ask to see some progress towards that end on a semi-yearly basis.

what?? i'm sorry, are these coaches punching in at 10 AM and leaving at 3 or something? mangini got a place right next to the complex when he was first hired and he still lived out of his office with how much work he had. there is absolutely no chance that you work at your job harder than these nfl coaches do with their jobs. that's just ludicrous to even post.

SO WHAT? if you have a problem with that, it's easy to follow a team that has recently won a superbowl. there's one every year. simple fact is each coach that comes in has no obligation to the fact that we haven't been successful. OBVIOUSLY, the coach wants to win, it's not like he chooses to lose. this sense of entitlement reeks. and no, we're not going back to the bs "i'm a fan who pays for tickets and food and merchandise so my money pays paychecks so they owe me" crap.

First of all, you have no clue how hard I do or do not work so you can keep that opinion to yourself. Do I go to work at 10 and stop at 3? Nope, not any more. Though I have in the past. But I have a life and I can actually pick my children out of a lineup so I think that still puts me one up on a lot of coaches. But that doesn't really have anything to do with what I was saying. I was actually thinking more of the WR that can't run a route the same way twice to save his life. Or the offensive lineman that jumps offsides 3 times a game. Or the DB who is always 2 steps behind his man. Should I go on?

This quote tells me that you're still looking for that clue...... Where did I say we were entitled to anything? What I said was we were the most patient fans in pro sports. And that it would be nice to see a little progress towards that championship trophy. What we are entitled to is a better team. At least once in a while. We've supported the Browns over the last 45 years through thick and thin. I just think that it's about time that they reciprocate.
Oh, and by the way, my dollar spent on tickets, merchandise, satellite packages, etc. does pay their salaries. All I ask in return is maximum effort each Sunday. Most Sundays we get that. When we get it on every Sunday we'll be a winner again.

i don't need to know you to know that you DON'T work harder than an nfl coach. you even admit to "having a life" and having punched in at 10 and leaving at 3. the simple fact is you are in no position to make any demands and even if you were, these coaches are exceeding them. what, you having children puts you up on these coaches? you're so full of crap. the simple fact is a coach can only do so much for a player or otherwise, it wouldn't matter who the player was to begin with.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. When I said I wasn't going in at 10 and leaving at 3 anymore I meant 10am and 3am the next morning. So I do know a little about working. When you get out of school you will, too.
Your second rant about coaches and kids makes no sense so I'll leave that one alone.
And I'll state it again.... after 45 years it's about time we see something on the field that makes us stand up and shout something other than obscenities. If you can't go along with that I really don't see why you follow the Browns.

Oh I don't know about that.. you can state all your stats if you like,, but the Bengals weren't just coming into the league as an expansion franchise.. in a lot of ways, that first team 1999 was doomed from the get go.. we weren't given the benefit of as many extra picks as the Jags and Panthers received a few years prior.. and we weren't given the same amount of time to hire a FO Staff and Coaching staff either. Lerner and Policy had about less than 6 month to assemble a staff..
Now compare that to the established Bengals franchiset over the 90's and anyone can see that the Bengals just couldn't find a QB for the longest time.
And NO, not all of the 90's

Not only have the people failed in putting a winning product out..they've failed from 1999 to this year in getting and developing a quality QB...and it's been a number of reasons.. Coaching Evaluating a sold QB Impatience/pressure
Until those things are hammered out the Browns will flounder and never get off the ground.

It's not "remarkable" at all in the grand scheme of things.....there are many teams that have had question marks at the QB position, that have been around since (nice typical troll remark again by you BTW) 1999.

Shep you can cry "troll" all you want, the facts are the facts. Yeah and I'm quite aware other franchises have had their share of revolving door at QB. And despite that, the Bears have had some success, and the Dolphins have given their fans some hope. With all that said, how much faith do you have either Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson to make the Browns offense look like a offense again? I know for a fact,a QB battle simply reflects that Quinn or Anderson haven't made Kokinis/Mangini go "wow, this guy is the field commander for our offense" When was the last time you went into a Browns season feeling secure about the QB situation?

No, A lot of Browns fans expect a one year turn around. When the Browns won 6 games in 05, I heard people call for Romeo's head. Palmer was fired after two seasons because he say the Browns weren't going to the playoffs anytime soon.
Browns fans and management lack the ability to wait for anything, which is why we are rebuilding again.

You and I both know that it BS. A majority of Browns fans live in the 80's, thinking that we should be competing for a Super Bowl every year. Coaches are given two years to have a winning record, and if they don't, they suck.
Once again, if we continue to act like this, it's going to be 50 years, then 55, then 60 and so on if we as fans and an organization continue to act like spoiled children.

Impact, you might be jumping the shark on that.. While we've all heard Mangini say there will be a QB competition, we don't know that there will actually be one.
Many on here think, or at least feel as if it's possible that Mangini has made his mind up, but wants to keep the value up for which ever QB he doesn't think will do the job.
Not sure if that's true, but before you go off on something like that, let's let it play out a little more.
If both are here after the draft, I'd say we have a competition,, But I wouldn't count on it....

Again you clearly have "ZERO" Understanding of a CEO's role or what a CEO even does for that matter. The Browns will continually struggle until we hire a suit capable of running this organization. period! this is FACT
This regime has yet been given a chance to see if they're capable of such...FACT...
three other regimes have been given a chance under a variety of circumstances, all have failed... at some point don't you have to stop saying we are just picking the wrong people and start assessing whether or not we have a bigger problem?

It takes more than football to run an organization.....the hiring of Mangini tells me Randy Lerner doesn't have a clue as to what he is doing.
LMAO...Lerner don't have a clue cause YOU don't like Mangini...FACT #2...
What does that have to do with Palmer/Davis/Crennel? Some people liked them, some people didn't, some had GMs, some were GMs, some had more control, some had less.. there is only one stark common denominator between them... they all failed. Think about it... every coach, every GM, and 99% of the players we've had in here over the last 10 years are now deemed failures in Cleveland... many of them came from successful organizations and quite a few have gone on to success in other places after leaving... so what's the common denominator?
And as an aside... I don't know if it's the FO or Randy Lerner or what.. but it's certainly something worth considering...

Not that you are, but to implicate Lerner as a fool who can't cut it as an owner is risky business.
There are teams who've made good calls and bad ones. The owner was an idiot before, but then a genius afterwards.
The Pats had chosen Pete Carrol.
The Dolphins had chosen Jimmy Johnson and Dave Wandstadt.
The Cards had chosen Dennis Green.
We know Lerner had a learning curve. We know he's chosen poorly. Some of his hires were people suggested to him by the NFL itself. We also know that some of these coaches were thought of highly.
I think Lerner has made some mistakes. I also think he's done everything in his power to make this thing work, including spending millions of dollars above and beyond what some teams spend in order to acquire coaches and talent.
Sometimes things just don't work out. Butch Davis was a flawed hire, and Crennel was a flawed hire. If Mangini turns out to be a flawed hire, then it could possibly be that Lerner doesn't know how to put the right men in place. If that turns out to be what happens, it would probably be wise to hire a football man to make ALL the decisions, and retreat back into his office. But before we get to that point, we need to see if Mangini can rebuild this thing........

three other regimes have been given a chance under a variety of circumstances, all have failed...
You know what's really funny about that is that in truth, some of the most successful franchises in history had a period of time,, years and years of inept management, then, seemingly out of the blue, the right guy is hired..
Let's look at one of the biggest examples of that...
I did this once, I looked back on the Steelers coaches.. I think it was 7 head coaches prior to Chuck Noll...
That would mean they failed 7 times prior to Noll,, and Noll himself had horrible teams in the late 80's..
Now look at the Browns,, We had one coach for 18 years,, and another for 7 years.., then the rollercoaster started..
One after the other until we got to Coach Sam.. he did well, then fell off the map.. Then Marty, followed by Carson, Belichick, Palmer, Davis, RAC and now mangini..... In all, 11 full time HC's for the Browns (not counting interims) to the Steelers 10 or so... (again not counting interims) Our 11th and Current HC may be the one,, I honestly don't know.
But the first ten won 5 NFL Titles, The Steelers, 6.
My only point on this is that if you go back and look at every team in the league (other than the jags and Panthers), they have kissed a bunch of frogs until they finally got thier prince..
Did we get our Prince this time?

It's clear what happened here...IMO...
Clark/Policy/Palmer - All unqualified for their jobs. Palmer was basically a sacrificial lamb, IMO.
Botch/Garcia - I'll say to this day Botch was qualified as a gameplanning coach...but his players didn't respect him and him and Garcia were NOT qualified for persÞnnel decisions.
Savage and Crennel - both were arguably qualified, but each had their flaws that cost them their jobs. Their main issue was lack of chemistry. Had they had good chemistry they may still be here. But I don't think Savage was experienced enough with pro personnel and I don't think Romeo was nearly as detail oriented as Mangini, despite coming from the same family tree. There's a reason Mangini rose up the ranks so quickly.
ManKok - IMO Mangini is qualified and earns the respect of his players despite being able to crack the discipline whip, he's known for his intelligence as well, Kokinis remains to be seen but he has the qualifications. I think the most important deal here is they share the same philosophies and apparently have good chemistry with each other.
Qualified + Chemistry = success. At least I hope...

You and I both know that it BS. A majority of Browns fans live in the 80's, thinking that we should be competing for a Super Bowl every year. Coaches are given two years to have a winning record, and if they don't, they suck.
While I'm sure some fans do reside in the ' 80s I don't think it's anywhere near a majority. And even if that was true....so what? That's the last time we didn't suck. It's not a bad place to visit once in a while. As far as the coaches being given 2 years to get a winning record.....well, frankly, what's all that wrong with that? Most teams witha decent HC and FO can turn it around in 2-3 years. You know, continuity with a bad coach is even worse that none at all, IMO.

Once again, if we continue to act like this, it's going to be 50 years, then 55, then 60 and so on if we as fans and an organization continue to act like spoiled children.
And honestly, it's attitudes like this that perpetuate the lie that the fan is responsible for the performance of the team. I cheer every week. I never miss a game. Yet no matter how hard I do that they still lose more than they win. Gosh, you're right it's my fault.......

complain about being old all you want but that doesn't change the fact that this browns organization owes you nothing. you chose to support them and are in no position to demand anything. don't like what you see? don't follow them; we won't miss you.
The Browns organization owes me the same thing it owes you. The maximum effort it can give every Sunday. When they start doing that we'll start winning more than we lose. And I'll still be there.
But, by golly, I'm betting you won't be. No, making that hoping.......

way to try to casually change your argument. not interested in the new tangent but it's nice to see you gave up on the previous ones.
as to who stays and who leaves? yea, i'd be hoping the people who make me look stupid would leave too if i were you. fortunately, i don't have to deal with that as much as you do.

You are a hoot. I changed nothing during our little discussion except possibly my opinion of you. I've been here a long time. Barring an extra Krispy Kreme fragment breaking off and clogging one of my arteries I plan on being here a lot longer. My guess is with your attitude you won't make it to September. Good luck, though. You'll need it. Oh btw, I did change my mind on one thing because of your debating skills......You're right. The Browns don't owe you anything.

We've gone the quick-change route (Policy era) and we've gone the "continuity" route (Crennel era) and both failed.
Horsefeathers.
Quick change is Palmer after 2 and "continuity" is Crennel after 4?
Four years is "continuity" now? Was blowing up the assistant coaching ranks smack in the middle of that part of the "continuity"?
RAC made his mistakes and he's gone now. But last season with all the injuries in the preseason the cards were stacked against a good start and with the injuries to the QB's at the end of the season even Paul Brown couldn't have pulled a rabbit out of a hat given that to work with. If you give up the first 4 games to preseason injuries and the last 6 to QB injuries it totals 10 games. That's 10 out of 16. That leaves 6 games and 3 of their 4 wins were in that middle span.
So with the beginning and the ending of the season ravaged and ruined by injuries the coach still gets all the blame and gets fired when the smoke clears. All well and good. We needed a better head coach anyway.
But at least we went the "continuity" route.
RAC wasn't the greatest of head coaches in his 4 years here. He may never have even panned out to be a good one. But with a healthy roster and this season's predetermined easy(?) schedule we could well have had a return of our '07 success without even changing him out.
Continuity indeed.

Now that's too simple but very true and real.
Let's see what Mangini can do. There are plenty of things I like about him already. There are also some question marks we all have. We've made the move so let's hope it works. He's here now so he deserves at least a chance. If he ain't jammin' in two years we can fire him too. No more of that continuity crap.

what?? you're the one who's complaining on a board about how the coaches don't work hard enough blah blah and you think with my "attitude" (where i'm supportive of both our qbs and our coaching staff unlike most people) that i won't make it to sep?
or maybe you meant my attitude towards your posts, in which case, yea maybe constantly replying to your mind-numbing posts'll do me in by sept. maybe you're right for once.
just give it up. you're embarrassing yourself. it's almost painful to watch now. almost.
