Blonde Steeler just called me with some very disturbing news. Her pops (my step father) wasn't feeling well and our Mom was fighting to get him to go to the hospital. Finally got him to go and Shonda just called to tell me that Dad had a stroke. Don't know how bad it was yet but will know within the next hour. She is on her way to the hospital along with our other sister. Unfortunately being 700 miles away I am not able to get there at this time. Until we know how bad it is I won't be going home. If it's extremely bad then I will fly home to be with the family. Please keep him in your prayers and thoughts. (Even if he is a Steeler fan, he's my favorite Steeler fan next to Shonda....great sense of humor and wonderful guy) Also, he suffers from diabetes and is an ampute. So this is going to be a really rough recovery for him.

Thanks Ammo.

Just got off the phone with my sis. Dad was complaining that Mom was trying to choke him to death because she wouldn't let him finish the crackers she had shoved in his mouth before putting more in there. (his sugar had dropped)

He had a stroke but to what extent we will not know until he sees the Neurologist tomorrow and also has a CAT Scan. His speech wasn't affected but he does have swelling and droopiness on his left side of his face. So there may be some muscular damage to his left side. They are keeping him over night at least.

On a funny note though.....the nurse was kind of stupid....Dad has a prosthetic right leg......the nurse was doing something to Dad's right leg and asked him if he could feel it. Dad looked at her and said "No." She asked him why not, he then told her that the leg was fake. She lifted the sheet and almost fell over from embarassment. So at least his sense of humor is still going full bore.

Sorry to hear that.

Don't feel bad about not being home, there isn't anything you could do there that you can't do where you are.

My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Daman, so did I. If he was crackin wise with the nurse and yelling at Mom then he's in better shape than most are when they have a stroke. I am just glad that things aren't as bad as they could have been.

Peen, you are so right. I was really upset that I wasn't able to be there but then got to thinking about what Dad said to me at Mom's birthday party when I told him that I was moving down here. He was so damn happy to hear about it and told me to get the hell away from all the bs and drama and enjoy life. So I know he understands that I may not physically be there but I am there with him in spirit.

Hopefully I will have more good news for everyone tomorrow afternoon. Thanks one and all that are saying prayers and sending good thoughts his way.

Hey AD, I hope this prayer is recieved by both you and your family. God Bless you all.....

TODAY'S SCRIPTURE
“Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you…I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand…”
(Isaiah 41:10, AMP)

TODAY'S WORD from Joel and Victoria
Is there something in your life that feels beyond your control? If you’re tempted to get discouraged, remember, as a believer, God is holding you in the palm of His hand. There is nothing too difficult, nothing too impossible, nothing beyond His ability. When God holds you in His hand, you are safe. You are cared for. In His hand, there is victory. In His hand, there is strength. In His hand, there is provision. In His hand is everything you need.

No matter what you may be going through today, you can trust that God is for you. Instead of getting down and depressed over your circumstances, look up and get a vision of God turning that situation around. Get a vision of His favor, promotion, and increase in your life. As you stand in faith, you’ll see those supernatural breaks that will launch you further ahead than you ever thought possible! Remember, He holds you in His victorious right hand!

A PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father in heaven, thank You for helping me and holding me in Your victorious right hand. I choose to trust You even when things don’t make sense, even when things seem beyond my control. I release my cares to You knowing that You work all things together for my good. In Jesus’ Name. Amen

Maybe some good will come of it all, maybe once he recovers he will see the error of his ways and become a Browns fan

Still no concrete news. He had 4 or 5 MRI's today. He is having issues with short term memory, the stroke did affect his eyesight (which is expected when you have diabetes and bad eyesight already) but his speech is fine. He thinks he's gonna get to go home tomorrow but the doctor's haven't told him anything of the sort.

Thank you so much everyone. It means alot to BlondeSteeler and myself. I will keep you updated as I find out information. (sucks being so far away and not being able to speak face to face with the Doctors)

The Doctors are on TV every day. They are easy to talk to, my wife does it all the time. Now if she starts expecting them to answer her, I'm getting out the backwards white jacket again

Just got off the phone with Shonda. The doctor is a freaking idiot. He says Dad's carotid artery is almost 100% blocked but there's no need to hurry and schedule the surgery....just call me for an appointment NEXT week and we'll schedule the surgery sometime after that. I swear that doctor is one of the dumbest I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

He is the same doctor that almost killed Shonda. I just do not understand why Mom and Dad still use this doctor. (I think it's Mom because she just doesn't understand that you don't have to take that kind of mistreatment from doctors.) (sorry for the rant)

Thank you everyone for your prayers and good thoughts. Please keep him in your thoughts until this is done.....Shonda and I are both worried that the doctor is putting Dad at an unnecessary risk making him wait until next week for a visit in his office to schedule surgery.

I hope things improve Atomic, and he recovers well.

My suggestion is that if you are uncomfortable with the way this physician is handling this that you immediately get a second opinion. It is not hard to do with all the information they already have on him. They can send the info straight from there to another physician.

I'll let Shonda know because she is alot closer (like 5 minutes away unlike my 15 hour drive home). Mom seems to think the sun rises and sets on this doctor...won't mention his name because there are folks on here that will probably know who he is and if they want his name they can pm me.

Hopefully Shonda thnks about that and reminds Dad that there is such a thing as a second opinion and it never hurts to have someone else look at the test results and give their opinion.

Thanks Jules.

I would approach it with her that with something this serious that a second opinion is ALWAYS the best idea. People do it even when they like and respect their doctor. They are only human.

And sometimes they suck (you can leave that part out).
