Can we start a new thread , getting long...

By ANWAR RICHARDSON | The Tampa Tribune

Published: April 2, 2009

TAMPA - ESPN is reporting the Jay Cutler soap opera could come to an end as soon as Friday with Tampa Bay still viewed as a possible destination for the Denver Broncos quarterback.

In the report, ESPN says "the Broncos have informed all interested teams that they want at least two first-round picks for Cutler and getting a quarterback in exchange is not a necessity,"

A Broncos source also told ESPN it was possible Cutler could be traded as soon as Friday.

The Washington Post is reporting that the Redskins are actively pursuing Cutler. An NFL source told the Post that the Redskins were trying to complete the deal as quickly as possible, although the Bucs and New York Jets were also reportedly interested.

Another NFL source told the Post a high-ranking Redskins official shopped quarterback Jason Campbell to another team for a second-round draft pick. The Post said the source interpreted the move as an attempt by Washington to put together a package to get Cutler.

Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominik declined to speak about the Cutler rumors this morning.

Tampa Bay nearly obtained Cutler through a three-way trade in February, a move that sparked Cutler's animosity toward the Broncos.

Quarterback Luke McCown is projected to start for Tampa Bay this season, but obtaining Cutler, a Pro Bowler and former first-round pick, would be an upgrade for the Bucs.

The Broncos are asking a lot for Cutler, especially considering every team in the NFL knows he does not want to be in Denver. Detroit and Carolina are other teams who have shown interest in making a trade.

Cutler, who asked for a trade March 16, told FoxSports on Wednesday that he was surprised the Broncos were trying to complete a deal so quickly. He also said he was having second thoughts about the request, which came because of a rift between him and new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels.

"I didn't want to get traded," he said in Nashville, where he was attending an Ultimate Fighting Championship event. "That wasn't me. They had been going back and forth saying things, wanting me to be their quarterback, and then they didn't. I really didn't want this. I love Denver. I really like my teammates. I didn't want it to get this far

I just have to think that Detroit has to be a viable option for Denver.

2 first round picks
NFC

I know I've read Detroit saying they want to build through the draft, but Cutler is still very young. This isn't like picking up a FA who is right in his prime or maybe past. Heck, Cutler probably hasn't even reached his peak yet and probably won't for a couple years yet, IMO.

Well, since you're imposing your will upon the Ref's, I'll go ahead and add to the coup
Quote:

While Jay Cutler was busy sitting octagon-side for Ultimate Fight Night 18 last evening in Nashville, the trade wheels were grinding. The team that has emerged as the front-runner in the Cutler sweepstakes? Danny Boy’s Redskins, of course:
The Washington Redskins are actively pursuing a trade for disgruntled Denver Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, according to NFL sources.
One source said the Redskins are trying to complete the deal as quickly as possible although at least two other teams, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets, are also reportedly interested in acquiring Cutler.

The Redskins declined comment.

The Skins would certainly have to give up some package that involves Jason Campbell and a draft pick (likely their 13th overall). This deal, as we broke down over at my other site yesterday, makes absolutely zero sense for the Redskins. The difference between Campbell and Cutler right now is razor-thin, not to mention Campbell knows Zorn’s system, has improved dramatically every season, and is approximately 18x the man Cutler will ever be.
But when Dan Snyder sees something shiny that he wants he tends to get all GIMMIE GIMMIE at all costs. Oh, you want Campbell, our first overall pick this year AND this dumptruck full of gold? No problem. I’ve never pretended to care about the future of this organization, why start now? Got any aging linemen you could throw in?

Further evidence that Washington may be the best suitor: The Broncos have set-up their trading post in crazy town and are now demanding a deal that is “north of two first round picks” for Cutler. Snyder LOVES the sound of that.

Meanwhile, the man at the center of all this hoopla is now saying he didn’t want it to come to this and never wanted to be traded. Which seems odd seeing as, you know, he said before that he wanted to be traded. Pleeease just send this guy to the Lions already and let us be done with him.

Per The Sporting News.

One thing I didn't say last night:

This could be an indicator that the 'Skins have allready struck the basic parameters of a deal, and are either looking to reacquire picks lost to the Donks, or are trying to bring together the details of the 3rd "mystery team"

If the Redskins are interested, and it seems they are, then that is the best possible team for the Broncos to make a deal with.

They have a mid 1st round pick this year to give the Broncos and a proven NFL quarterback. We have neither of those things.

Now Cutler is changing his mind and wants to stay? Why didn't he return some phone calls? Why did he act like such a baby when the whole thing started?

And why did some Browns fans want this prima donna?

So are they looking at someone on the roster or the draft ? Strange to start over. Maybe.. they take one one of those first rounders and give it to us for DA.. you think ?

Cutler's agent is doing damage control.

Now that he's forced his way out by acting like a baby, it's time to play the "I didn't really want out, they didn't try to call me, I never wanted to leave, they are being liars and bullies! I'm a nice guy, I'm not a problem-child, and if you trade for me, I can promise you I'm not the guy that the media and the team is making me out to be. I'm a victim!"

i took that part to mean that they were hoping to build up the picks that they could offer to the broncos to get cutler. would be interesting if this was part of a potential 3-way trade though. that could be like your christmas in april

I don't know, when this ends, then the sports networks will revert back to "what is Cleveland going to do" and the inevitable Grossi article "What the Browns are doing is wrong"

that will change come draft day....

All the Broncos are doing is putting a price tag on Cutler... Just like a car in the car lot...

Well we all know that price can be bargained, especially if its sitting on the lot a very long time. Not to mention the Broncos "car" has a few issues and did not pass inspection.

Well not really..since there are several teams who appear desperate for a QB like the Skins/Jets/Bucks and so on the focus will be on whoever lands him..
Only Grossi and the Cleveland media will cough out articles that the Browns weren't a player..blah blah..
However I'm expecting some things to happen on draft day..soooooo

wow, two 1st rounders,, that's a pretty steep price for a crybaby who's now singing another tune about wanting out of Denver....

As crazy as this might sound, I think the Broncos, it's owner and new HC called Cutlers bluff...

I've got to think that if a QB isn't included in a swap, then any trade they pull the trigger on is one that gives them more than comfortable odds of landing Sanchez.

As long as we're tossing around theories and suppositions (at least I'm going to) ......

How about Denver wants to trade up into say ...... the top 5 for a QB of their cloice ........ and they would have pair of 1st rounders to deal ......

Who might be inclined to trade down from say .... the 5 range ... for a pair of lower 1st round picks?

Not to rain on your parade .... but I don't recall anyone saying that it had to be 2 1st round picks this year. It could be one this year and one next.

I've pretty much have come to that conclusion for a while now...Snyder will do it while others ponder. What the Broncos want and what they get will be two different things.

The way I see it. Bronco's get the Redskins 1st and 2nd round picks. Plus Colt Brennan or they might even do the 2010 first rounder instead of the 2nd round pick.

I think the Bronco's are going to be happy with Chris Simms and will groom Colt as a reliable backup.

I don't think the Bronco's will want Campbell. they'd rather get the 2nd good pick.

Then the Redskins will not want Campbell as their backup cause they got to give Cutler a new contract. So they will trade Campbell to Jets, or Somebody else for their 2nd rounder so they do have a pick in the draft first day.

After the draft the Redskins will sign one of several available Vets as the back up to Cutler...cheap one year or a two year contract.

web page

The Bears acquired quarterback Jay Cutler today for No. 1 draft picks in 2009 and 2010, a No. 3 pick this year and Kyle Orton, the Sun-Times has learned.
The Bears receive the Broncos' fifth-round draft pick this year.

Cutler, 25, is coming off a Pro Bowl season with the Broncos, but he became disgruntled and wanted a trade after learning Denver was considering a deal for quarterback Matt Cassel.

What is amazing is how Cutler made out in the deal.

he is now in a major market on a team that has been a QB away from being a Contender for a few years.

I cannot wait to talk to my friend who is a Bronco's fan and see what he thinks of the trade.

Two firsts and Orton....Man, did they fleece the Bears or what?

However....is it worth it for stability at the QB position? I'm inclined to say MAYBE it is.

Two #1's, a #3, and Orton.

It's not fair that McDaniels could screw this up and come out this far ahead.....

No, Eo, I had to ignore it. The world is a crazy place right now, so I have to hold on to what little bit of it represents normalcy that I can

Now I wonder if Orton is their starter, or if Sanchez comes into play in a tradeup scenario..............Not that I'd be interested in a trade-up scenario, mind you, considering all the talk of Sanchez moving up the draft boards

So if Denver calls and offers #12 and #18 for #5, you wouldn't bite? It does work out on the "Almighty Draft Chart".

Sometimes it pays to be an ***.

Seriously though, how freaking desperate is Chicago. Christ. (2) 1's, a 3 and a decent starter for a guy that refuses to even show up to workout.

With Denver's picks, we pray to God Stafford falls to us now. Wouldn't mind taking those two #1's off their hands.

I'd ask for a 3rd round pick as well.

I'd be over a 12 and 18 so fast tey wouldn't known what hit them.

The Denver Broncos announced Thursday that they have agreed in principle to trade QB Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears. Terms of the deal have not been announced.

I'm glad we weren't involved. Maybe we can move DA now.

Now thats a good deal...12 + 18 for #5 2100 for 1700 (+400) for us...good deal I'd jump on it.

But alas...I think Denver is going to be happy with Simms and Orton as the back up challenging Simms. They will go draft and build that defense get a stud RB.

JMHO - Maybe an OL guy in the 2nd.
