Jason Campbell just doesn't do anything for me. I've seen him play, and while I don't feel he's an awful QB, I can't see him ever being anything great.
What I want to see is Quinn getting his chance. First year was a learning year. Last year, DA ''earned" his starting position according to Savage, and Quinn got his shot once the team fell apart. Only to get hurt the following game.
I'd like to see what he could do if given the chance to compete, or if handed the reigns, how he'd play knowing he's in control. We haven't really gotten the full chance of seeing that, and I think we need to before just tossing it away.
One thing I don't want to happen is what has happened since this team came back- search for a quarterback. While keeping him doesn't guarantee that he'll turn that around, getting rid of him surely doesn't. We'd start back at square one.
yeah, i'm not ready to give up on quinn.
we've seen so little from him. and with this team so far away from being in contention for even our own division, i don't see the problem with waiting it out, and giving him time.
wow, denver got a 3rd outta that deal too?
jeez. talk about being taken to the cleaners.

So now here the Donks sit...........with four 1st round picks the next two seasons...............and no QB.
Gee, I wonder what they could be thinking in this draft
The old-school draft chart says the two 1st rounders this year equate to a little better than the 4th pick in this draft........right where the Seahawks sit.
I don't care how much hype Sanchez is getting, his lack of experience is going to keep him as the #2 QB in this draft. So if Stafford goes in the top-5, that COULD mean some team from 4 on back is going to be in position to trade with the Donks. And since the Donks have an interest in Quinn...................

I'd rather give them the #5 than Quinn. Yeah, I read that as well, the Broncos got two 1sts, and a 3rd, plus Orton.

do they do that, or wait until next year when the qb crop is incredibly deep?
you've got, colt mccoy, sam bradford, tim tebow, jimmy clausen (who's rumored to be leaving early)
they're sittin pretty, and i hate it.

That would mean they'd be willing to wait two full seasons before they've even got a QB who's started an NFL game (who's name isn't Kyle Orton *L*). They won't wait that long. They can't.
Besides that, Tebow won't be an NFL QB. And Clausen doesn't look like he will be either. Bradford and McCoy are candidates, but they are coming out of spread offenses, and that's a dicey situation.
However, it comes back to doing nothing this year at QB and going with Orton (they can't be that dumb) while not even taking a rookie until next year. That's a three or four year gap just to stand the chance that a QB will do what Cutler did this past season.
No, I can't imagine they'd be content doing that, not with all these picks sitting there. It'd be smarter to bite the bullet now by sending an extra pick to us for Quinn, as his time to be a starter is NOW. McDaniels allready likes him. This just makes too much sense, unless the Browns try and hold the Donks up, hehe.
The only other option is to hope that Sanchez will slide to 12 (I think it's 12) or to reach like Hell for Freeman.

Maybe the 18th and a 3rd, but not both 1st's. They won't do that for an unproven QB.

Of those 3 mentioned, the only one I like is Bradford. He will be a star. I think Tebow will go late first to a team looking to get into the wildcat. I think McCoy will go in the 2nd or 3rd, and I haven't seen enough of Clausen to say much there. I think the Bronco's best bet is to trade for Quinn. Stafford won't be there at 12. I could see them taking Sanchez, but he is a big risk. And there is a good chance he won't be there either.

My only problem with trading Quinn means we are going to probably end up talking Sanchez or Stafford whoever falls.

Report: Cleveland Browns offered Brady Quinn to Denver in failed bid for Jay Cutler by Mary Kay Cabot/Plain Dealer Reporter
Thursday April 02, 2009, 8:18 PM
CLEVELAND -- The Browns were involved in three-way trade talks Thursday that would've sent quarterback Brady Quinn to Denver, the Washington Examiner reported.
The deal involved the Broncos, Redskins and Browns, and the source said it was close to happening at one point during the day. Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, who ended up being traded to Chicago, told a CBS affiliate in Denver that he was headed to Washington.
But the source said the deal involving the Browns unraveled, prompting Chicago to get back in the game and outbid the other players. The source said Denver's preferences for a quarterback were Quinn and then Chicago's Kyle Orton, who was part of the trade.
Denver also received Chicago's first-round picks this year and next year and a third-rounder in 2009. The Bears also received a fifth-rounder along with Cutler. The Broncos were not that high on Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell, according to the source.
Neither Quinn nor his agent, Tom Condon, immediately returned messages seeking comment. Details of the Browns' offer were not immediately available.

be prepared for Sanchez at #5......

U never cease to amaze me ... and now your sickness is RUNNING RAMPANT .. *L* .. you;pve said so many remarkably ignorant things in this thread alone your starting to sound like Da Man Is Hot or Peenie ...
1. your saying were willing to trade BQ because its RUMORED we were willing to include him in a deal for Cutler ... OK .. when another team wants to give us someone of equal value to cutler at the QB position I'm on board with that ... till then all your doing is SPINNING AS USUAL ...
2. your also suggesting NOW that the trade is all done the Donks are going to give up a 1st rnd pick for BQ ... hmmm ... PSSST ... they got there stop gaps in Orton and Simms ... there gonna sit tight until NEXT YEAR .. there gonna fill holes this year .. and lord only knows they have plenty of them ..
3. your just now figuring out that BQ has WAY MORE TRADE VALUE THAN DA ... *LOL* .. well .. welcome to REALITY BRO .. its been that way since ... well ... about week 3 of last year ...
4. U admit that BQ has WAY MORE TRADE VALUE than DA .. yet somehow U believe were going to have an "open comp" ...
thats rich even for U ... *L* .. i think you've spun so much crap U foget what u say from one web to the next ..
Bro were not going to trade BQ cause no one else is going to offer us anything near what Cutler is worth .. and were certainly not trading BQ for draft picks .. WILL NOT HAPPEN ..
and as I said AFTER LAST YEAR and again AFTER THIS YEAR ... DA wil be with us cause he just does not have the trade value most of the menZas on here believe he does ... if we could get a 2nd for him i believe he'd be gone in a HEARTBEAT ... but the FACT IS we more than likely will not even get that for him ...
keep spinning bro .. its amusing if nuttin else ..

Clausen is not going anywhere after this year .. well at least that is not even a whisper at this point much less a rumor .. dude made that up .. i have heard nor read that anywhere until this goofball made it up ..
and daniels for some reason likes Orton ... no clue why .. but he does .. prolly cause hes very similiar to Casell ... no very strong arms and supposedly accurate and smart ... although i have yet to see Orton do either of those things consistently .. but at least they both have weak arms .. *LOL* ..
Sanchez would be a very good fit for what they want to do .. of he falls to 5 ... I could see us trading the 5 for 18 and there 2nd .. but thats about it .. they will hang tight and daniels will try and find a Brady or a Cassell ... IE: . they will grab a QB in rnd 3 or on day 2 .. or just wait til next year in FA or the draft ..
don't forget ... Daniles comes form a backround of finding gems late that fit the system ..
Loki .. thsoe days are over .. we have a QB .. and we have a VERY VERY GOOD ONE ..
YOU'LL SEE ...
Toad .. no worries about how BQ handles this .. he is as mentally tough as they come .. wonlt bother him at all ..
and it wil also not make him work harder ... he ALL READY OUTWORKS EVERYONE NOT NAMED MANNING ...

If it's so darn smart why would we be willing to dump him and go with DA ? Just because he has higher trade value ? What do WE get ?
Just because the last glass of water in a desert has "high trade value" doesn't mean it's smart to trade it.. I'm sick of the QB swapping already. The bears gave up a lot.. I'd love to give up 2 first rnd picks for a franchise QB and be done with for ten years. Lets see if we have one before shipping him off to start over.

Hard breathing down there with your head in the sand? *L*
Take a look around. The media is all over this one. We were shopping Quinn. A deal was close.
You aren't required to believe it, but that won't make it just a fairytale.

Nope. Only a person who's a little bit paranoid or nervous would believe that
I'm suggesting it to get the paranoid all riled up Thanks for chiming in and making this thing interesting again
Someone who's afraid of what I'm talking about would believe I stated it as fact. A realistic person couldn't possibly discount such an occurance since:
A) The Donks want Quinn B) The Donks have four 1st round picks in the next two years C) The Donks have Simms and Orton as their QB's.
If you think they are content going into the season with those guys at QB, you've followed that slinky down the stairs on your head *L* Quote:
3. your just now figuring out that BQ has WAY MORE TRADE VALUE THAN DA ... *LOL* .. well .. welcome to REALITY BRO ..
I've been here in reality. It's not my fault you only read your own posts, otherwise you'd know that since this thing started at the end of the year, I'd stated over and over again that Quinn had more trade value. (Which is why I've been talking about trading Quinn, but hey, common sense would have told you that ).
Quote:
Bro were not going to trade BQ cause no one else is going to offer us anything near what Cutler is worth .. and were certainly not trading BQ for draft picks .. WILL NOT HAPPEN ..
So.........we won't trade Quinn because of the value of Cutler. Ummm........

And so it comes full-circle *L*

You know Diam ... where Quinn is concerned .... you are hardly unbiased. lol Hell, the kid outta hire you as his publicist. Quote:
4. U admit that BQ has WAY MORE TRADE VALUE than DA .. yet somehow U believe were going to have an "open comp" ...
I actually don't see a competition coming. I don't see Quinn here at the start of the season. I just don't think that this regime really likes either guy ..... and I think they are determined to move the guy they think will bring the most.
Look ... if they were convinced that Quinn was "the guy" there would be no talk of "may the best QB win the job". There would be no including the guy in trade talks for another freakin QB. If they thought that Quinn was a franchise type player, they would never even allow that thought to be put out there.
Could you imagine the Colts dangling Manning ... or the Steelers Roeth ...... how about the Pats offering up Brady for Cutler? Not a chance. If you believe that you have a young franchise QB, you hold onto him like gold. Denver didn't see Cutler in that mold .... so they replaced him. They offered him around the league, and found a buyer. That buyer could easily have been us.

Because I'm speaking from the Donks point of view, not ours.
HOWEVER.........
If we're going to change the perspective to our own, then you asked me that question, I would answer as follows:
Because no matter if we're talking about Quinn or Anderson, the answer to the question is the same: BOTH QB's have to be ready to start by this point in their careers. If they aren't, they simply aren't starting material.
From either teams standpoint, both guys have to start now because of how long they've been in the league.
DISCLAIMER TIME:
AT THIS POINT IN TIME, I AM NOT ADVOCATING STARTING ANDERSON OVER QUINN. I ADVOCATE TRADING WHICHEVER QB GETS US THE MOST BACK IN TRADE. MY STANCE HAS NOT CHANGED SINCE THE OFFSEASON BEGAN. IT SIMPLY LOOKS THAT WAY BECAUSE THE SUGGESTION OF TRADING QUINN GOES AGAINST LOCAL BELIEF THAT QUINN'S TIME IS NOW.
That any better?
When Anderson was rumored to be tradeable (you know, before we knew the TRUTH about his bonus being guaranteed ) I was for trading him for a potential 2nd rounder. After the Vikings got Rosenfels and the Chiefs got Cassel, I knew Anderson wasn't worth a high pick in return, which is when I turned my focus to Quinn. All the " " smilies should have tipped everyone off *L*

Which is where I believe we haven't seen everything that Anderson can give us.
I believe that too many people have given up too early on Anderson, and have put faith in Quinn for no other reason than he's NOT Derek Anderson. Whether or not people choose to believe that statement is irrelevent to me, but I've seen some posters I respect say almost exactly that by saying
"I'm tired of the QB carrousel. Just pick a QB and stick with him." Several have said it, but they don't really mean it. What they REALLY mean is they don't believe in Anderson, and want to stick with Quinn because they are tired of not having a regular QB.
I can't find the logic with that.
What I CAN see are those that don't believe Anderson is a good short-range thrower. I think there's proof to back that up. However, when people question Quinn's accuracy and arm strength, the most prevelent reply is "well, we don't know yet whether or not that's the truth." Yet we're ready to dump Anderson and go with Quinn. Nope, not buyin' it, hehe.
1) I want to trade a QB for some good value. Whether that's Anderson or Quinn, I don't care. But if we can't trade one for good value........
2) Don't just hand the job to one guy or another. Let them fight it out and may the best man win.
Nothing more, nothing less. As is often the case, each posters viewpoint makes my devils advocacy or neutral stance appear combative and opposite to their views. Need some proof of that? Quote:

Good move for the Bears. They went 9-7 last year with Orton under center, and he's a bum. They should do pretty well this season.

I don't want to derail this thread but it seems to be a cutler/denver/chicago/cleveland/quinn/DA type of thread so i figured it can go here. Quote:
Zach Sycks, Atlanta, GA 06:13 PM ET Hey Willie, love seeing you as a guest commentator on NFL Network over the past few months. Keep up the good work and stick around! I'm sure you knew this question was coming... What do you make of the QB competition in Cleveland? Who do you think is the better guy to lead the huddle and run the offense: Quinn or Anderson? I'm curious to hear your frank and honest thoughts on this now that you are not currently a member of the Browns organization. Personally, I'm rooting for DA to win the starting job back this season...
Willie McGinest, Linebacker Having two good QBs is a good problem to have. Based on experience and what he's done in the past. Derek Anderson should be the starter at this point. Although Quinn is a hard worker, he's smart, good attitude and willing to learn. And he will get his shot soon. Not sure if it will be in Cleveland, but if he keeps up all of the hard work, he will be a starting quarterback and productive quarterback in the league. Thank you for the question, Zach.

MY OPINIONS ARE BASED ON WATCHING HIM DEVELOP OVER 4 YEARS ... what are yours and the otehr UNBIASED posters opinions based on???

You're wrong. Sorry to be the one to break the news to ya, but here goes:
Quote:
According to a source involved in the discussions, the Redskins were closing in on a three-way deal Thursday afternoon that involved Cleveland quarterback Brady Quinn going to Denver. The source said he was told that the deal was likely to happen soon. The Examiner reported that a deal was close. Indeed, a CBS affiliate in Denver also reported that Jay Cutler had told them he was told by his agent that he was going to Washington. ESPN also reported that the Redskins were at the top of the list and a deal could happen at any time.
However, the deal involving the Browns unraveled, prompting Chicago to jump back in and offer a less-complicated deal, knowing the Broncos liked Bears quarterback Kyle Orton. The source said Denver’s preference of quarterbacks was Quinn and then Orton. They were not high on Campbell.
So, rather than do a three-way deal with Washington and another team, the Bears, according to an NFL source, called to offer Orton, two first-round draft picks, and a third-round pick in exchange for Cutler and a fifth-round pick.
“They had the compensation,” another NFL source said of the Redskins. “In the end they chose Orton over Campbell.”
There are reports all over the net of this. Quinn was going to Denver, Cutler was going to Washington. Who knows who was coming here (it was probably Campbell ).
So Diam old buddy, pal of pals, Quinn was a goner and it wasn't for Cutler.

Well the Bears need a QB and fast. As they have had over 22 QBs in the past twenty years, the most of any NFL team.

j/c This was interesting news to wake up to. I think they have have overpaid unless they can work out a reasonable contact ASAP. He's cheap for this year and 2010. Then in 2011, he's due a 12 million dollar roster bonus. Then in 2012 he's a FA likely asking for 100M. So, if he doesn't pan out to be the franchise guy by the end of next season, they have 2 huge decisions to make - (1) to pay him the 12M and give him another year (2) to pay him the 100M the following year. This all after giving up 2 first rounders and a 3rd rounder (plus Orton, of course). If he does pan out, then the decisions above are easy. Now, for Denver - what do they do? Are either Orton/Simms their QB for the future? If not, do they trade up for either Sanchez or Stafford? If you follow the draft value chart, the 12th and 18th pick equal between the 3rd and 4th picks. Scratch KC because they are both in the AFCW. Will they trade their 2 first rounders for an unproven QB? Will Seattle play ball with them? From a Cleveland spin on this, I'd be more than willing to take #12, #48, and a future 4th or 5th rounder for #5. It works out to about an even trade, but it puts us in a better position I believe - - lower out of pocket costs at #12 than at #5 (and we can likely get one of our top 5 or 6 guys there too).
- an extra 2nd rounder
- an extra 4th or 5th rounder
And, it seems to fit in with Mangini's past of hoarding extra picks... It also works out for Denver, as they get to keep one of their first rounders this year. Another interesting thing that may come out of this is what happens in Washington. Apparently Washington was agressive in acquiring Cutler and also trading Campbell. Did they sour that relationship? I'll be the first to admin I'm not a DA fan (never have been, and ate my words 2 season ago), but I find a Campbell for DA straight up trade intruiging, outside of the inevitable QB controversy it'd cause. Regardless, I think the next 3 weeks will be very interesting...

There are reports all over the net of this. Quinn was going to Denver, Cutler was going to Washington. Who knows who was coming here (it was probably Campbell ).
Toad - there were rumors that Campbell and Cooley were headed to Cleveland. It makes me think we might have been giving up more than Quinn.
I suppose the trade would have looked like Denver getting Washington's first pick, Quinn and our #50, Washington getting Cutler, and Cleveland getting Campbell and Cooley.

One thing . . . There is no information on WHY the three team deal fell through. Instead of all the negitivity, saying that the new leadership doesn't want him, maybe we wanted too much in return?

Someone posted part of this....here's the whole updated thing with some key parts that weren't previously mentioned: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cleveland Browns nearly send quarterback Brady Quinn to Denver Broncos as part of Jay Cutler deal Friday, April 03, 2009 Mary Kay Cabot Plain Dealer Reporter Browns coach Eric Mangini denied a report Thursday that the Browns were involved in three-way trade talks that would've sent quarterback Brady Quinn to Denver. The deal, originally re ported in the Washington Examiner, in volved the Broncos, Red skins and Browns, and a source said it was close to happening at one point during the day. Late Thursday night, Mangini - through team spokesman Neal Gulkis - said the report was wrong. Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler, who ended up being traded to Chicago, told a CBS affiliate in Denver that he was headed to Washington. Chicago eventually got back in the game and outbid the other teams. The source said Denver's preferences for a QB were Quinn and then Chicago's Kyle Orton, who was part of the trade. Denver also received Chicago's first-round pick this year and next year and a third-rounder in 2009. The Bears received a fifth-rounder along with Cutler. The Broncos were not that high on Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell, according to the source. Neither Quinn nor his agent, Tom Condon, immediately returned messages seeking comment. Other teams trying to land Cutler were Tampa Bay and the New York Jets. The report comes a little more than a week after Mangini said at the NFL owners meetings that he wouldn't rule out a trade. "What I haven't ruled out is [Browns GM George Kokinis] and I looking at any opportunity to improve the team," he said. "But I in no way am saying that it is specific to the quarterback situation. But we would look at any opportunity we thought would improve the team." He also said he told both Quinn and Derek Anderson that they would compete for the job in training camp. There is more at stake for Quinn in the competition than the starting job. If he plays at least 70 percent of the snaps next season, he'll earn $11 million in contract escalators. Cutler asked for a trade last month after his relationship with Josh McDaniels soured when the new 32-year-old coach talked to other teams about trading him. Cutler and his agent didn't think McDaniels was upfront with them about the trade talks. When the rocket-armed but thin-skinned passer didn't return the Broncos' phone calls, team owner Pat Bowlen said enough was enough. On Tuesday night, he announced he had given his new brain trust of McDaniels and General Manager Brian Xanders the go-ahead to seek a trade for the quarterback, who made the Pro Bowl in just his second season as a starter. Now the Bears have a top quarterback, albeit one with baggage. "I don't have any concerns," Bears General Manager Jerry Angelo said. "[Coach Lovie Smith] and I talked about that. We did, like a lot of people who were interested in Jay, a lot of work going back to not just when he was with Denver [but] but going back to his days at Vanderbilt." Although Cutler is 17-20 as a starter, he's been victimized by dismal defenses in Denver, and he was an impressive 13-1 when the Broncos held opponents to 21 points or fewer. Last year, Cutler threw for a franchise-record 4,526 yards, 25 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. The Associated Press contributed to this story. Man, it will be nice once the draft is over and we will have something concrete to discuss rather than discuss what we should do, might do, or could do.

MORNING ROAST: Why is Stallworth still a Cleveland Brown?
Published: Friday, April 3, 2009
By MIKE PERRY mperry@MorningJournal.com
REGARDLESS of the fact that a person is innocent until proven guilty, Stallworth had a blood alcohol content well over the legal limit in Florida and, while driving with this blood alcohol content, struck and killed a pedestrian.
It does not matter if Stallworth hires a brilliant attorney that might get him off on a technicality, or that he might be offered a plea deal and spend some time talking to kids about the dangers of driving drunk — the man killed another man. He was impaired and should not have been behind the wheel, but Mario Reyes was the one who paid for Stallworth's immaturity, recklessness and idiocy.
Word is that Stallworth is devastated over what happened, that he is extremely upset and remorseful. Try telling that to Mario Reyes' family.
What kind of an organization do the Browns want to be? If it's all about football, all about wins and losses, maybe they will want to hang on to Stallworth, try to spin doctor their way into keeping one of the most experienced receivers on their roster.
If that's the case, any day we can expect the "Donte Stallworth is a member of the Cleveland Browns family and we will support him through this difficult time" statement from the team. What they should do is release him with a statement that says "We, the Cleveland Browns organization, want our players to be productive on the field while being positive members of the community away from the stadium. Donte' Stallworth does not fit into that image. We wish him well."
Don't hold your breath.
Jay Cutler is now a Chicago Bear. Now all the people clamoring for him to end up in Cleveland can move on to the next item on their unrealistic wish list.
Cutler would have been a terrible fit in Cleveland, though he probably would have fit right in with the quarterbacks on the current roster. Just think, Cutler and his petulant foot-stomping, tantrum throwing personality could have joined Derek Anderson, with his fragile ego and non-existent self-confidence. Add to that Brady Quinn, who has become a favorite of the fans while ticking off most of his teammates in the locker room.
Instead of a quarterbacks coach the Browns could hire a quarterbacks psychiatrist.
The Bears gave up a pair of first-round draft picks, the No. 18 overall this season and their top pick next year, along with their third-round pick this season (No. 84 overall) and Kyle Orton for Cutler and the Broncos' fifth-round pick this season.
What were the Bears thinking?
Denver received a solid starting quarterback in Orton. He was much maligned in Chicago but had a decent season in 2008, throwing for 2,972 yards and 18 touchdowns (with 12 interceptions). Now the Broncos can use the draft to rebuild their defense and they get an extra first-rounder next season to boot.
The Bears will be a much-improved team this season, but down the road they are going to regret this deal.

Were the Browns really in this trade? Peter King didn't bother to mention it when he was going over the trade with Mike and Mike this morning and said the reason this went down for the Bears is McDaniels liked Orton better than he did Campbell and once that decision was made the negotiations were just with the Bears. The Jets were never really in it as they felt the price was too high, King reported and Cleveland wasn't even mentioned as a player. He didn't mention that Orton was liked better than Quinn, just Campbell.

Remember what all of this talk is based upon... The reports on this thread either are using the Washington Examiner as their source (which uses the "Source close to the situation") and another one that says it all fell apart because Mangini and Favre were a mess...
Yet, Favre may be helping at training camp?
Then Mangini comes out and denies it...
So, believe what you want, but I'd call this a desparate media hoping for a story. I'm sure there were some talks between the Browns and Broncos. But how does anyone know it wasn't the Broncos calling the Browns and saying "what do you want for Quinn?" Our response could have been we'll give you Quinn and #5 for Cutler and your #1.
Who knows? I guess debating over unnamed sources is always fun.
Go Browns!!

Maybe it's just me but is any of this factual in nature? Or is this totally an opinion piece? Because I really can't tell.

True that there appears to be some "poetic license" involved here but how much of it can be disputed??

Quinns is a pretty classy kid also,, I doubt he says a word either. But here's the funny part, we don't know for sure that any of this "rumored trade" talk is accurate. It might have been DA they were shopping.
The media was playing up the Quinn/Wiess/McDaniels angle quite a bit and I've yet to see many of those angles play out the way some say they will.
Fact is, I can't remember the last time anything like that happened. (not saying it didn't, just saying I don't remember the last time or ever)

craz...I was not going to comment on this...but, since you brought it up...after I read that Cutler would be a "terrible fit" for the Browns and then the above comments...it's obvious Perry is another media hype who is love with Brady Quinn.
No, the Browns don't need a top QB, we already have one, we just don't know it yet.
Cutler is light years ahead of Quinn as of now...
But "now" is the time for Brady Quinn to prove himself to everyone.
