Didn't the Bucs make Jeff Faine the highest paid Center in the league as well.

2 former first round Brown picks...both made highest paid at their position by the Bucs? Wonder what the odds of that happening were?

HACK

Not to mention that they franchised Antonio Bryant.

I think they're pretty stupid for doing so. I'm of the mindset that you don't bring in high priced free agents...you produce them by developing from within and know when to let them go.

You should know all about how that works.

I bet they are actually planning on using him as a receiver, more than a TE. The guy has a great hands as gets open.

General reply. Glad he is gone. The Bucs way over paid and over estimated jrs head issues. Will do and can do are different issues. There is always too much ego with jr. IMO his value is over-rated.

General reply here too...

Head case + bad knee + lack of blocking ability + can't learn the playbook + gets called for stupid penalties = He can still show up on game day with more burning desire to win than anyone else on the team, and haul in a buttload of passes for some serious yardage if someone can manage to get the ball anywhere near him.

That's why he got the money. He'll play his ass off and give them everything they expect from him and more. They already know his shortcomings. Those have been well publicized. They're not in the dark about that.

He didn't fit here. Not for that kind of money. Not with that knee. Not with the hard feelings after the way he bad mouthed the organization. But make no mistake, dude can ball. He may not be able to practice but he can ball on game day.

Our trading him was a good move by us for a lot of reasons. But that doesn't minimize the FACT that he's a real player.

I'm sorry, I disagree. Real players take the team to the playoffs. This man always seemed to display the attitude that he was more important than the whole. I think he is a good ballplayer, and I wish him well. I also wish we had never picked him though---just look at the scale of what went wrong compared to what didn't,...it's NOT in balance. Five years later, all we have is draft picks,....same thing we gave away to "get" him.

He is NOT a complete player, and I think it takes only a handful of those to become a winner. Apparently, the FO agrees with me on this.

Good Luck, Mr. Winslow.

j/c Good for Winslow. I wish him nothing but the best. I always liked him as a player for the Browns. He sure had some faults and injury issues. But the guy does have skills and great hands, and is a good player. Can't really fault a person for getting the most money he can when he can, especially as his career may be shortened due to his injuries. I believe most of us would not turn down a fat paycheck at our own jobs, when given the opportunity.

or the odds of the Broncos trading for/signing so many of our defensive players.

it didn't work out too well for them so far, time will tell with the Bucs.

I wish KWII the best, he was a competitor, or...soldier

Well, good for winslow - he's getting paid like he thinks he's worth.

The guy has great hands, NOONE can dispute that.

He is lost often times when lining up, he can't block. I'm glad we got rid of him.

Now, I just wonder when he'll start acting up in Tampa - this year, or next? His ego is almost as big as his contract. I don't give him 3 years before he's cut due to lack of ability to play the game (i.e. his knee) or the Bucs will get tired of having a player that thinks he's better than he is.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Good reply. Facts are the facts. He is one hell of a player. Great passion. When he is healthy and in the right mind set.

Your first sentance supports mine in my first reply. We need to go no futher.

Too many draw backs, way over valued. Period. He is the primary reason he didn't fit in. Stupididty, imaturity and out of control arrogance shortened his career in Cleveland and over all.

I was hoping we might make a run at a real TE, TG in KC. One can dream.

Didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I find it interesting

Ex-Brown Winslow weighs in on team’s QB controversy

Kellen Winslow spent the first five years of his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns before being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in February. Therefore, the tight end has a unique perspective on the Browns’ quarterback quandary.

Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn are expected to fight for the Browns’ starting job in training camp, and The Dayton Daily News reports that Winslow revealed to Sirius NFL Radio which QB he believes should be under center in Cleveland next season:

“I would say Brady Quinn. I love Derek Anderson. Great quarterback. It just didn’t work out. Brady Quinn is coming in, he has tremendous upside. Very calm, very mature and, I mean, give the guy a chance. What’s the big deal? I really don’t get it. This guy is coming in, he has worked his tail off. I bet you he is there working out right now. Just give him a chance. He is a leader, he is coming into his own. I really don’t get what’s the hard decision up there. My choice would be Brady Quinn.”
Quinn, one of the Browns’ two first-round draft picks in 2007, started three games for the Browns last season and threw for 518 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Anderson, who made the Pro Bowl in 2007, struggled in his nine starts last season, throwing nine touchdown passes and eight interceptions.

IF those are actual, true, undoubted, written, spoken, and verified words from Winslow's mouth,...there are two ways to look at it.

(1) He's a has-been Brown and what he says don't mean squat,...

or

(2) He's a has-been Brown, and knows the real deal.

Either way, he's a has been.
