Why is it that Congress gets a Cost Of Living Increase and yet the American Worker doesn't ?....It seems that the American Worker is always penalized when either the Government or the Private Sector screws up .... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why are advertisers and the media allowed to jackup the volume by up to 40% as compared to your volume setting ?.... ....

As far as Congress goes, there's 1 viewpoint that states that to get good educated people to make up our congress to make laws, that we need to pay them well.. It's not like anyone wants to do it anymore for the good of the country..

If you could vote yourself a raise, wouldn't you do so?

"The American Worker" is pretty broadly defined. I get an increase every year that is at least in keeping with inflation, usually it's more.

"The American Worker" is the private sector.

I stopped reading right there. I know we're not allowed to post rumors on this site.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

When the American Worker works for the Governement (shouldn't be too much longer), then the American Worker can get the same Cost of Living increases that all other Federal Employees get. Until then, you should direct this to your employer, they are the one keeping you from getting it, not Congress or anyone else.

I think that this is something that the FCC is addressing now.

When I get to thinking it is usally about stuff like how it is typical to subtract one year from another (say for example 2009 - 1964 = 45) but how it would make no sense to add 2009 to 1964. Weird.

Commercials don't have nearly the same dynamic range as a television program or sporting event, or especially a movie. This limited dynamic range means that the average level (the difference between the quietest and loudest parts) is much higher than the average level for a program, where you will have quiet parts (dialogue, for example) and loud parts (musical score, loud sound effects like explosions, crowd noise at a sporting event, etc). Too much compression of the dynamic range of a television program sucks the life out of it, so on average the program is going to be quieter than an advertisement where the entirety of the audio portion consists of somebody yelling at you for 20 seconds about why you should buy their product.
Recently I was thinking about how if you take any two-digit number (say, 73), flip the two digits (so you now have 37) and take the difference between the two (in this case, 36), the answer is always divisible by 9. I suspect it works with any number and the corresponding number that is the direct reversal of its digits.

With today's technology, there is the ability to normalize volumes.
I was just thinking the other day that, reliable, appealing, long distance electric or hydrogen cars will probably happen in my lifetime.

Normalization only increases signals until peak levels are at or near -0.1dB, though. The more dynamic the program is, the less the audio output is going to be at its peak level.
I'm all for reliable transportation with alternative fuel sources as long as they don't look like rejected props from Back to the Future 2.
