sorry if I come off as dense, but these new technologies are making me feel old. I have an i-pod shuffle that is too full to add another song. Nowhere in the diretions do I see a way of deleting music to make room for more. Can one of you young whipper snappers help an old dawg out? thanks in advance.

Delete what ever songs you don't want in itunes, then sync your ipod.

go onto itunes, hook up your ipod, and click your music on the left side of the screen, not your library, but rather the music under your ipod, you can right click and delete them from your player, if you wanna do multiple songs, hold down shift and move down however many.
there may be another way but thats how i do it...

thanks BringbackBernie and LBJ.... it took some doing but I've got it now. my library had over 200 songs in it. I guess I needed a bigger i-pod.

next time, go with the nano, i got one for my birthday, love it. 8gb, perfect size. can't fit anywhere near my library, but i can put a ton of good discs, plus some awesome playlists...
itunes is a little wacky because it's apple, but once you get it down, it's very nice. enjoy!

I don't have an I Pod, but a Samsung media player. 8gb is just fine with me. It's not quite half full, and I have like 450 songs on there. Only threw on a couple albums, mostly just the songs I really enjoy.
Really can't beat it for the price my wife paid at Christmas. Something comparable from the I Pod line was basically double in price.

i love it, you can take a song, click genius, and it generates a playlist with simliar type songs.

i just use the earbuds that were provided, but i really wanna get my hands on a set of bose.
i have some decent stereo headphones, but they work kinda weird when hooked up to the ipod.
what you got?

I use the Skullcandy buds.
You basically put them in your ear canal. Sounds uncomfortable, but they're not, and they stay in great. Actually quite comfy. If you have them in correctly (not outside the ear canal like most ear buds), the sound is great with some solid bass in it for these little buds.
I have a big pair of Sony stereo headphones that I used to use on my computer or stereo, but never tried it on my MP3 player

I had the same problem, I got a set of sony clip on head phones. They have clip that goes over the top of your ear.

I started running, but quit after a couple weeks. 
And no, they don't come out. They work very well. They don't really sit on the outside of your earhole like most buds do, they kind of fit in the ear canal, and there are different sizes to fit you best. So they really don't fall out unless you yank on the wiring.
I basically pull my ear lobe up and back with one hand, push them in with the other, and they sit in there pretty good. (nursing trick- when you're looking into someone's ear, you pull the ear lobe up and back, which straightens the ear canal out). I'm guessing that's why they call them Skullcandy, because they're a little unique in they way they sit in there compared to the regular buds you get.
Very solid phones for the price, usually $25-30 or so for their basic set.

Earbuds suck. Typically when I'm listening to headphones I'm not running or anything. Even if I did I've never found an earbud that actually stays put. Get a real set of phones... http://www.gradolabs.com/Grado SR80i. The best headphones you can buy for under $100. PERIOD. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. My ipod nano can drive them. But I can also plug them into my home system. They're super comfortable and sound absolutley AMAZING. Everyone I've put them on has been blown away.

right on, the only reason i dont have an ipod that fits over 200 songs, is because there is only one that has a clip to fit my backpack, (and orange).
i guess they discontinued the orange model moving forward

If you're going with in-ear phones, skip the Bose and go with Shure, V-Moda, or Eytomotic.
To the OP...not sure if you're importing music from your CD library or purchasing music on iTunes, so I don't know what bitrate your music is encoded at, but I do believe there's an option for the Shuffles that will allow you to encode them at a slightly lower bitrate when they're transferred to the Shuffle so that you can fit more music on at the expense of slightly lower sound quality.

It's 128 kb which is too low if you're like me and work around loud machines.

Again, check into the Grados. They're unsurpassed. Bose won't touch them.

Yeah, I do like the larger stereo headphones, but when you're on the go, they aren't practical.
You pretty much need a pair of buds unless you just listen to them in your house sitting around.

I've heard nothing but good things about Grados, but I've never gotten a chance to use them. Actually, I didn't know they made a model in the $100 ballpark. I thought they were all in the $300+ department.
For over-the-ear headphones, I have a pair of Sony MDR-7506 earphones that I really like. You can find them for $100 just about anywhere.
Keep in mind that over-the-ear or on-the-ear earphones will tax your iPod's battery much more than a pair of earbuds.

Find a place that sells high-end audiophile stuff and check out a pair of Grados. I walked into such a place in Columbus about 15 years ago out of the blue. Wasn't in the market for headphones... until I put on a pair of Grados. They're just unreal.
The SR60's retail around $70 but they lack the power that the SR80's provide for just another $30. When you go above that model you lose the 1/8" headphone jack and can no longer use them for the ipod. Plus you start dropping some serious cash.
They're still made by hand in a small workshop in Brooklyn, NY. They don't make a bunch of other crap. They just make the best headphones in the world. You'll find yourself listening to stuff in your music collection just to hear it through the headphones. The things you'll pick up that regular speakers or cheaper headphones miss, will blow you away.

100 bucks? i may have to look into that, because that is about the max for what i wanna spend...
and i had no idea that the bigger stereo headphones drained more energy from the ipod, that's good to know though.
when i'm on the go, or doing my walking, i'll just use the earbuds, but i do a lot of listening at home, either on my computer, or just relaxing in bed, so i think it would be a solid investment.

I use the ones that the Ipod came with, but I rarely listen to it that way. I mainly listen to it through my cars stereo, or my home stereo.

all the reviews for the sr80's are very good. and it seems more people prefer them to bose or sony...
i think i'm leaning towards a purchase. haven't really bought myself anything nice in a while

FYI...
Grado's headphones are open-backed. Meaning that people sitting around you will be able to hear "over spill" from your headphones if you've got them cranked up. This style is different from many other makers that try to muffle all the sound between the headphone and your ear. Sure the person sitting next to you can't hear what your listening to, but you lose a LOT of the sound quality. I won't use them on an airplane for this reason. For air travel I use my cheapo earbuds... and take my Grados along for times when it matters less.
Just something to consider.

And another thing... it seems there are two types of cushions for the SR80's now. The type I have is the L-Cushion.  It seems they are also selling them with the S-Cushion.  I think I'd prefer the L. It's like a bowl that fits over your ear. The S is more like a pancake that traditional headphones use. The L cushion is really comfortable. It allows my ears to "breathe" and not get too hot. Plus any pressure is on my skull around my ear, not directly on my ear.

yeah, earbuds are the way to go in the airport...
easier to lug around, plus i wouldn't wanna have any expensive set of grados crushed, stolen, damaged, etc... too much of a chance of that in an airport...
i just bought a set though, can't wait to hear em. they will be used mostly for listening at home.

as much as i love my nano, i screwed around with this chick at work's ipod touch for a few minutes awhile back, that thing is fun. that might be my next purchase when my nano no longer works.

I have a i-touch with the free 15 texts also, the only catch is that most of the apps need wifi which you have to pay for.

You are right. I forgot about that - we already had wifi set up in the house for the XBox Live so I just had to enter the password in his iTouch and he was good to go.

I was in the market for a PDA for scheduling after my old one finally died. I opted for the iPod Touch instead and never looked back. It is a great little device that has the best of both worlds.
My favorite app is Remote. It drains the battery fairly fast but I love how it works. When I'm working in the theatre, I just have to set up my laptop up at the sound board and connect a wireless router to it. Then the iPod acts as a remote for the computer and I can control music choices and mute it when I need to give my crew instructions. Sure there are all kinds of remotes for sound docks and I could easily hook up a sound dock to the console, however I would have to run all the way up to the booth to pick something new.
