Well, the Wings were rusty from the layoff but pulled out a dramatic win. The captain did what a captain's supposed to do. The pace of the game was awesome. I don't think either team will be able to sustain it for more than a couple games. The Ducks did a good job taking away the slot from Detroit's gunners, but if Hiller keeps giving up those rebounds it'll be a short series. The hit on Hudler should warrant a suspension....what a cheapshot.
The Bruins picked up right where they left off. I only caught the highlights but it didn't look like much of a game.

that was a horrible hit early in the game. can't remember who it was, but he took out jiri hudler, a good 2 seconds after he was off the puck that guy should be suspended

hawks with an impressive 6-3 win after falling behind 2-0 tonight. series tied 1-1 heading back to the united center. i'll be at game 3. should be awesome

Damn!! Ovechkin and Crosby each netted a hat trick tonight. The Pens are in trouble, I think.
Yesterday, the Red Wings severely outplayed the Ducks in the 3rd pd. and overtime, but still managed to lose. I'm still scratching my head over that, because Hiller keeps giving up those huge rebounds that the Wings can't seem to take advantage of. Offensively, the Ducks don't have anything past the Getzlaf line....but that appears to be enough if Detroit doesn't start putting it in the net. This is a much cleaner series than I thought it would be. For the most part, the refs are letting them play and it's not getting out of hand.

I can't wait until tonight's games. Vancouver in Chicago, Detroit at Anaheim. Will be a hockeyfest this evening.  Vancouver/Chicago should be good, looking forward to hearing the crowd at Chicago Stadium (I refuse to call it by whatever corporate name they have on that building). Hoping for the Red Wings, I can't stand the Ducks. Damn, I was rooting for Pittsburgh last night... I like watching Sidney Crosby play and I want a nice long series with this one.

Fluery was the difference against the Flyers last series... he again is the difference. Except he's being outplayed by a rookie phenom... Pittsburgh is definetly in trouble... basically have to win out now. And I don't see it happening.

as long as they win the next 2 at home, they're good. i think they will.
i'm jettin right when i get home to get down to the west side for the game tonight. i expect it to be pretty wild down there, especially with them getting a split in vancouver.
and as much as i hate the ducks, they're damn good. that getzlaf and perry line might be the best in the league. crosby/malkin/stahl probably gets more headlines, but they cannot beat you up like those 3 can.

All four series are at 2-1. It's looking like condidtioning and depth are going to play a huge role in who makes it to the finals.
The Wings got hosed on arguably the worst call I've ever seen in hockey at any level. It shouldn't have come down to that call though. Detroit can't keep taking the first period off before deciding to play. The Ducks are doing a good job of frustrating Hossa. He's gotten worse as the series advances....his passing decisions and defense are pathetic. Chelios' age has finally caught up with him I think. It's time to hang them up. Selanne burned him badly for a breakaway goal.

Both the AHL and NHL Penguins team win in OT. Being a huge Monsters fans I been paying attention and listening to the Hershey Bears (Capitals affiliate) vs Wilkes-Barre Penguins (Pittsburgh affiliate) . If the Bears move on to the next round I'm going to make a trip to Hershey for a game and some chocolate. Series is 2-1 Bears.

yeah, the 'Canes keep surprising. Watched the Pens-Caps game last night, good hockey. I love overtime in the playoffs & I was glad to see the Pens make a series out of it.
Important game for the Blackhawks tonight, almost a must-win against the Canucks.

Malkin was a different player last night... he has something about playing in front of the home crowd. Not sure if its his parents in the stands or what... but he takes it to another level. MAF was horrible again... Pens don't have a shot if he keeps playing like he has. He had like 20 shots... Pens had like 50. We outplayed them the whole game and Varlamov was again the difference. We gotta get bodies to the net on him, thats the only way we're getting one past. Not one soft goal has gone in on him. While MAF has let in 3-4 this series already.
I saw the replay of the wings no goal call... happens all the time in hockey. It sucks when it happens to you... but its a hockey play. Ref doesn't see the puck and blows the whistle. Ref wasn't in the best position but he wasn't bad either. Just alot of junk to see through with the scrum in front.

if you watch the replay of that call in the det/ana game, the ref is actually moving to the spot, he was out of position to make the call, although he did do the right thing, the referees are instructed to blow the whistle if they lose sight of the puck, bad bad break for detroit.
great series though.
and lamp, i agree, hawks gotta come out tonight, they have been HORRIBLE in the first period of almost every game in the playoffs.
2-2 going back to vanny would be great, 3-1 against that D and lu, and it's vacation time.

Great hockey tonight. I had to watch a crappy feed on my laptop at work, but it was better than nothing. I saw both games....and both series are now 2-2. Anaheim pulled Hiller after the Wings put 5 on him. The Blackhawks just don't give up. What a fun team to watch.

The crowd was rocking after the overtime goal. Took me back to memories of old Chicago Stadium. This has been a good series.
Glad to hear Detroit evened things up with the Ducks. I find Anaheim a boring team to watch. Two big games tonight. I'm really hoping for Pittsburgh, I like watching Crosby and Malkin.

everytime you think these kids are dead, they just keep coming back, it's been a joy to watch. i think they can finish the canucks off tomorrow night, the uc is gonna be jumpin

I didn't watch the Hawks-Canucks game, saw the score this morning & figured Hawks fans would be happy.
It's not over yet, but that was a good win for Chicago. Tomorrow's game is THE game to win... they don't wanna go to Vancouver for a Game 7.
Pittsburgh won in overtime last night, glad to see that.
Boston is facing elimination tonight, and I see Detroit is up 2-0 an the Ducks today.

2 goals within a minute or 2 of each other, the ducks are finished, they ain't comin back.
i think boston looks about done too. i have a better confidence in them coming back than anaheim, but both look grim...
carolina/pittsburgh, chicago/detroit?
that is a fantastic final four. i would have loved to have seen boston in that mix but carolina is a fun team to watch as well.
the playoffs have been very enjoyable this year and they seem to have gained a few casual fans, i know espn has caught site of the pittsburgh/washington series.

This is the most exciting postseason we've had in a while. I'd love to see a Detroit/Chicago conference final....with the added benefit of no late night games. I wouldn't count the Bruins out just yet, but Washington looks finished. The Wings depth is proving too much for Anaheim, but they have a way of keeping games close even though they're being outshot so bad it's sickening. Today's game was up for grabs until late in the 3rd even though the SOG was 38-16 or something like that. What an awesome time of year!

For the seventh time in the last 2 years the Caps are facing a playoff elimination game.....they will want it ever badly (and have done well in these elimination games) but the karma of the cheap shot by Ovechkin on Gonchar's knee in Game #4 will see them bow out against the Pens about 9 hours from now..... LET'S GO PENS!!! I wanna wear my new "The Fast and the Fleuryous" shirt to work tomorrow....

i have no rooting interest in that series, i don't hate crosby like most nhl fans do, and i love ovechkin, but i just badly, badly want that thing to go 7.
a game 7 with the top 3 young players in the league would be a delight.

outside of i think 2 games, the blackhawks have not scored the first goal, and have been playing from behind, it's been remarkable, especially considering if you see a young team down 2-0 in a playoff game, that's usually game/set/match.
with carolina, they have the experience. i think they finish this thing with boston out. but they have been clutch, when they need it the most someone steps up, and jeez cam ward is good. he's really good

Ward is amazing... Jussi Jokinen is great too.. he had 7 goals in 71 games in the regular season, he has 6 including 3 game winners in the playoffs...

Heard Barry Melrose on the radio the other day, he said that if Stahl played in a bigger hockey market he'd be considered one of the elite players in hockey... but here in Raleigh, most people just don't hear much about him...

They've been the Cinderella team, for sure. Congrats to Chicago fans. I didn't see the game because my effing TV conked out (God they make crap these days), but it sounded like a wild third period. I have an old boss who's been a diehard Hawks fan since the 1960s, & somewhere today he's a happy man.
I was hoping Pitt. woulda finished off the Capitals last night, but nope... Caps in OT to force a Game 7.

although watching the ducks game last night, i really didn't like the announcer taking a blatent shot at roberto luongo...
they mentioned the hawks as the only team to advance thus far, and the color guy threw in the old "who would have thought that you'd be saying if vancouver had any goaltending they would have won in 5 games"
that's crap. take a look at some of the goals the blackhawks scored. luongo didn't stand on his head, he was not great, but to fault just one guy is laughable and then to say they would have won in 5 games is hilarious.
hey, how about not trying to score a goal and then play trap hockey (which doesn't work anymore) for 2 and a half periods?
how about not taking penalties? the canucks have only themselves to blame, the whole team, not just one guy.
it probably sounds biased because i play the same position as him, but i think it's extremely unfair.

Luongo was not himself in that series. He usually is a stone wall.. he wasn't. Did the skaters in front of him play a great series.. no. They were horrible... he was OK, not great.
To go anywhere in the playoffs you almost always have to have a goalie stud out at the right time.. you'll only go as far as your goalie will take you. That's why I don't think Pittsburgh has a shot. Fluery looks like poo... I can't stand his inconsistency.
I've played on many of team, where we would outshoot the opponent 2 to 1 and get beat because our goalie wasn't as strong. A goalie in hockey trumps any position on the ice... there is no other sport like it in that regard. Except maybe baseball and pitching.

i think shot counts are overrated, it's about chances.
i've played in games where we dominated at the offensive end of the ice, getting good shots, good chances only to get burned at my end on breakaways and 2 on 1's. there is not a more horrible feeling in sports then being a goaltender in that position. you literally feel useless.
chances like that, a goalie isn't supposed to stop all the time, but you won't come across an honest goalie who says he could have handled it better.
i think that is one reason why it's tough to be the red wings goaltender, they put more pucks on net than anyone and give up the least. so you don't get any rythym...

The Wings laid an egg last night....they had their chances but couldn't convert. Hossa and Datsyuk are officially snakebit, but Filpula, Helm, Zetterberg, Cleary and just about all of the D had quality shots also. Franzen of course found the net. The Ducks have only one productive line and they're riding it to the finish.
About that Luongo comment.....BS! Chicago was quicker off the puck and won most of the battles along the boards. They always seemed to have somebody at the net waiting for a rebound or screening. Only one of those goals could have been considered soft. Chicago won that series, Luongo didn't lose it.
Boston looked damn good, and Washington pulled one out of their arse. Three game sevens....this is a hoot!

yeah. to stick the blame for a series on one guy is laughable.
if you wanna point fingers, point at the guys taking penalties late in the game. that is a death sentence in the playoffs.
