I had no rooting interest in this one, so it was a very disappointing Game 7 to watch. It was over before it really began. Boring. As a Wings fan, I wouldn't mind seeing the Ducks go down in a similar fashion, however...  Congrats to the Pens on a big win though. If they play the way they did last night for remainder of the playoffs, they'll be really tough to beat.

Wings depth proves to be the series breaker. Hudler, Helm, Samuelson and Cleary score, while the stars were blanked. This is one area where the Ducks were severely lacking. After the Getzlaf line and Selanne, they had no offense. The officiating royally sucked this game both ways. The refs were letting blatant cheapshots go while calling cheesy taps. I'll give the Ducks credit....after failing on two 5 on 3s, they kept their composure. That would have taken the wind out of most teams' sails. Now to watch the other game 7 in OT!

yeah the Canes won in OT... Game 7, I listened to it on the league site... the Bruins announcers were devastated haha. go Pens, & go Hawks

Both teams had multiple chances in the 3rd period and OT.. fantastic goalie play by both guys.. shame somebody had to lose... but I'm glad it was them.

Not being a big hockey fan, I will definitely be rooting for the Hurricanes and the Blackhawks...
I still think the Wings will end up winning it all, but I hope its either the Blackhawks or Carolina..
I really hope Pittsburgh loses.. That city does not deserve two titles in one year..

I've been a Canes fan for a while now.. and beating Boston and then Pittsburgh and eliminating those 2 cities would make me extremely happy.

 Damn skippy!!! As a Wings fan I'm more afraid of the Canes, but there's no way in hell I can root for anything Pittsburgh. Gotta get through Chicago first, and that's going to be tough. The Wings got roughed up in all 7 games this series.

i wouldn't worry about pittsburgh winning anything this year...
carolina is probably the better team, better goalie, stahl may not get the pub that crosby gets, but he is just as good.
as far as the wings/hawks goes, i want the hawks, but it is going to be really tough on them, they have played from behind in almost every single game in the post-season, you cannot do that against detroit, they are built for that.
the best way to beat detroit is to jump on them early, because they are too good with a lead. but wow, are they fun to watch when they are losing, they can really put the heat on you...
wings in 7. carolina in 6.

lol some people ask the same about me since I root for every pro C-Town team but root for the Pens in the NHL.... but The Jackets weren't around when i got into hockey and it was between the Red Wings and Pens... and I dunno, its weird but I felt I'd rather support a pitt team than a detroit team when it was all said and done hahah, I do follow the Blue Jackets but to me if your gonna wear the colors of a club your in it for the long haul, hence why I'm still a big pen fan... Didn't start getting into college ball until the past few years so i might also start following UT to the sacrilege of many....

i actually know a lot of cleveland people who root for the pens...
still the closest drive to nhl hockey, they were good in the early 90's...
it's not like they are the steelers.
i have no problem with people from cleveland who root for them, i can't stand the cleveland/ohio people who are steeler fans, that makes me sick.

yea i was raised you root for the team your closest too when you decide to start rooting for a team solely, hence why i may start pullin for UT (never got on the college bandwagon)

I thought Perry had a heck of a series too for the Ducks... I watched him when he played in the OHL the past few years. He's a tough kid and has a very bright future in the NHL.
To me (Pens fan)... I am kinda glad the Hurricanes won so we get home ice advantage. But the Canes have been another team thats been really hot since the all-start break and they have one of the hottest goalies in Ward. It's going to be a tough series. The Pens have more talent and depth... but Fluery has to match Ward. And I just don't see that happening the way he has been playing in this years playoffs. If he can somehow play like he's capable of playing then I def think the Pens have a good shot of winning it all this year.
Chicago and Detroit looks like a mismatch but you just can't count out the Hawks this year it seems. We'll see...
I think it will probably be Canes in 7 and Detroit in 6... I hope I'm wrong about the Canes beating the Pens but like I said.. I just don't see Fluery matching Ward in this series.

i think the canes win, and a huge reason is that cam ward is a much better goaltender than fleury...
as far as detroit/chicago goes, detroit will and should be favored, but i definitely would not say it's a mismatch...
i think the hawks can push this thing to the max...
they are playing great hockey coming into this series. they will be well rested...
also, detroit is not an overly physical team, so guys like versteeg and kane should have good series'
also, nikolai khabibulin is simply better than chris osgood. that's not even arguable.
i love the youth and depth of the hawks, but detroit's skill players are going to be too much, although if you like scoring, this will be a series to watch, i think you will see a lot of 5-4, 4-3 type games...

Well your right... Detroit is not very physical... But you have the best head hunter in the league IMO in Kronwall... if they match him up with Kane and the likes they'll be pretty jittery in the open ice. I just don't see it even being a match.. except for the fact that Chicago has been surprising everyone thus far.
As for Osgood... he's playoff hockey tested and has proven he has what it takes. He'll make the saves he has to... always has. Khabibulin isn't exactly lights out either. It should be an entertaining series though... as its playoff hockey and there is nothing better.

khabibulin has won at least 3 games on his own through these playoffs.
he's probably the best netter left, he just gets overshadowed because of the star power of the hawks team.
it should be a good one.

ugly game yesterday. it was exciting for a bit, but if not for nikolai khabibulin, this one looks real bad.
detroit just has too much.
quenville was trying to mix and match his lines sticking his 4 against their 1 and it didn't even matter.

There were in it though, tied 2-2 in the third. Detroit will make you pay, if you turn the puck over to them. The Hawks almost have to win Game 2 now. One guy I really like on the Hawks is #33, Dustin Byfuglien. I've noticed him throughout the playoffs especially against Calgary; guy's got a good motor and stirs things up. I wish the Maple Leafs had a guy like that.  should be a good game tonight. Go Penguins.

This is eerily similar to last year's game one rout of the Penguins. Khabibulin let in some soft goals, especially that first one from Cleary. If Chicago can stop the giveaways and odd man rushes, they'll make a series out of it....if not, it's going to be 4-5 games.
In the other series, the Canes will give Pittsburgh fits if they win game 2. They had their chances tonight.
I'm still wondering how you get buflin out of Byfuglien. Let's see, the Y, G, and E are silent, and the F and U are transposed?

haha, i have no idea man, he's american too, from minnesota...
if he could skate better, he'd really be something. still a decent player and one of the few big bodies the hawks have.
that first goal by cleary was awful. seabrook turned the puck over, but whoever defended the rush (i think it was havlat) forced cleary to the boards and he took a very stopppable shot, khabibulin was down and deep in his net. very poor. he did make 6 or 7 unbelievable stops though.
pittsburgh learned that you gotta chip and chase against these guys. you have to jump out on them, if you get down, it's just a matter of time.

The Penguins looked pretty good last night. I still think the Canes blew a couple easy chances and 2 of the Penguins goals were the result of simple stupid mistakes by the Canes... This should be a long and entertaining series.

Fluery was the better goalie last night... problem is he'll probably now on Thursday look human again. While Ward will continue on being the stable netminder he is. Hopefully he'll get hot now at the right time and build off of last night. I thought I was going to jump through the TV there at the end and kill whoever it was that missed the clear that caused that last chance in front. Just freaking flip it high over everybody...
By the way if you looked a Fluery after that last chance, when he was getting up, he thought it snuck under him past the line.. so he got up and was using his blocker to pull it back if it was there... which I'm not sure it wasn't past the line when he layed on it. No good angle to tell where that puck was...
The pens came out and were the physical team for the first period and then kinda went into they're lull and lost all the one on one battles. Somewhat lucky they pulled it out yesterday. But I'm not going to complain... they won't win the series like that though. Any update on Cole and Ruutu yet?

Great game last night. I swear that Osgood sleeps through the regular season and then becomes Popeye on a spinach rush in the post-season. He's been money in the first two games of this series. Just like last season, he's peaking at just the right time. If I'm a Hawks fan, I'd be pretty worried right now. The Hawks have played very well (I think they actually out-played the Wings last night -- for the most part), but the Wings have won despite NOT playing THEIR best hockey. If the Wings take one in Chicago, I can't see the Hawks winning this thing. However, if the Hawks re-group and take the next two, this gets real fun, REAL fast.

I'm still trying to figure out why the Wings wait until the second period to put some defensive bodies in the slot. They've done this in every contest since game 1 against Anaheim. This game could easily have been 4-1 Chicago after the 1st period. Anybody that says Ozzy's the weak link is full of it. Quote:

he's still a young guy though, and he's already getting great experience.
i know everyone is so high on osgood, but he didn't have half the crap to deal with that khabibulin has had. yes, the hawks outshot the wings last night, but the chances were in favor of osgood. i thought khabibulin has been the better netter, but when your team is giving up breakaways, a 3-1 on overtime (that is EMBARASSING) you have no chance.
detroit plays well in front of ozzy, and he responds, but he's still not that great. he's good enough, a lot of guys could succeed with that team. the announcers made some of his saves seem better than they were.
when your defenseman are that good and your star players backcheck i probably could play net for the wings.
even though this series is probably over, the hockey has been great. 5-2 looked lopsided but that was a good game, last night was just as good
i think this is over in 5, i said 7, but detroit doesn't seem to be screwing around.
i think the hawks get one token win at home, detroit will win the other, and they close it out at home. this goes 6 at the most.

khabibulin has never had a decent defense in front of him. only reason he won in 2004 was because tampa played in the john tortorella system of offense offense offense and having the goalie stop everything coming. so he never faced a lot of shots because of the tampa offense being in the other team's zone alot. tortortella is doing the same thing in new york because he has a goaltender that can play his system again in lundqvist. too bad the rangers got eliminated.

yeah, and torts doesn't have the firepower up front in new york that he had in tampa, with lecavalier and st louis.. still love him though, you know the meltdown is coming with him.
khabibulin has been outstanding in the playoffs. he's tough as nails. he's also the cheapshot king. watch him during a game, he always gets a few shots to the knee with his stick.
in other news, i picked up a warrior messiah stick last night and it might be the greatest thing ever.

Wild start last night at Mellon Arena....be interesting to see if the Canes can get some moxie from playing at home tomorrow night......just hoping the Pens can take 1 of the 2 at Carolina. Would prefer both, but then there might be quite a long layoff......I'd rather the series go 5 or 6 games and keep the skates sharp.....

I think the Canes will squeek out a game, possibly 2.. so I predict the Pens over my Canes in 6..

You'll be happy, though... because I doubt the Penguins will take both games in Carolina. The 'Canes aren't done yet.
