I'm looking forward to seeing what we do, and I'm looking forward to having the pre-draft speculating O-V-E-R.

Note to Toad: Change your sig.
I thought we would be raping the Giants by taking their first and Kiawanuka for B.E.
But the Eagles want the #5 pick and B.E.???
I'd love to have Sheldon Brown. But ummmmm.... what would be do for our WR? We lose Crabtree, have to get a second round WR probably who would be our #1 guy as a rookie. I don't think so.
We hold the cards. These guys want B.E. bad enough, they will find a way to get him. We don't have to take anything. I hope we don't give in to some crap like this, not that I think they are dumb enough to.

Drops aside, Edwards is an incredibly productive guy. To say he's not worth a LATE 1st round pick is asinine IMO. Especially when you consider he's 26.
It's really hard to look past his drops because they are so incredibly annoying but take his per game averages and stack them up against other quality WR's throughout the league. I would guess they're going to be pretty comparable.
Career per game averages.......
Braylon Edwards: 3.9 catches, 61.34 yards, .48 TD's Reggie Wayne: 4.6 catches, 65.03 yards, .42 TD's
Is Reggie Wayne worth a late 1st round pick?
Is Braylon a horses butt? Sure, he can be but that doesn't take away from the fact that he's a good football player. Throw in the fact that NYG don't even have a #2 WR right now and there's now way in hell they're getting a player as good as Edwards for anything less than a late 1st.
Plus, the 29th overall pick is pretty much a second rounder as is. If they're not willing to part with that for a guy who can fill a GLARING hole THIS YEAR then they deserve to struggle through the season without a go to receiver. There's no one in this draft that can give them what Braylon can. If they don't want to anti up, then let them try to roll the dice with a late 1st round rooke WR.
My guess is that when it's all said and done, they'll cave and pony up the picks we want.

One thing to remember is that 2010 is really an uncapped year then we don't even have to use our franchise tag on him, as he becomes a RESTRICTED free agent.
Honestly I would do this: Eagles Get: Edwards 36
Browns Get: 21 Shawn Andrews
Go Browns!!

The saga continues... Braylon Edwards has been a recent no-show to the Browns' voluntary offseason program. If the decision is on Edwards, Eric Mangini won't like it. The Cleveland Plain Dealer, however, suggests that Mangini may have told Edwards to stay away to avoid injury in case of a trade. Edwards also wants a new contract, and probably out of Ohio. The NY Daily News reported late Wednesday that the Giants' interest has dimmed, but a draft-day trade remains very possible. Apr. 23 - 2:18 pm et Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer

It's all speculation. We won't know till it happens, it seems.
The Edwards talks are real. I think for the right price, we are trying to move him. I haven't figured out Quinn. Dunno if it's all smoke and mirrors or legit.

Its not that he is not worth a first....its that he is said to be wanting a new contract worth 10mill a season.
Cant give up the farm...for a guy you might only have for one year....and its very possible that he leads the league in drops for that year.
He is easily a first round talent....its his bag of red flags that are slowing down the process IMO.

funny one. but to be honest I get what that poster is saying. Drops aside, edwards IS a threat, and can make big plays when he catches the ball. And it's possible a new coaching staff might have a good effect on him, even though they might be tough... plus being a year older and one more year of growing up, we could see a different more mature BE. Do I sound desperate or what?

j/c i don't know which thread this would fit but there is more hope of a possible trade down: Quote:
The Bills are trying to trade up ahead of the Bengals at No. 6 to select Alabama OT Andre Smith, according to Scout.com. The Bills are desperate for a bookend tackle after the Jason Peters trade, and the extra first-round pick will allow them to be aggressive in pursuit of their target. Smith's value appears to have fully rebounded despite a trainwreck offseason.

chance to trade down (now that the bills have two 1st rounders) and a chance to screw over the bengals? sign me up

You guys must be really bored.
Believe it or not, Edwards isn't the only guy in the league who drops passes.
Would you call T.O. productive? Dwayne Bowe? Brandon Marshall? Calvin Johnson? Dallas Clark? Randy Moss? Chad Johnson? Roddy White? Marques Colston? Greg Jennings?
All of those guys were in the top 10 in the NFL in dropped passes. A little easier to understand my point now?

Nas, the guy quit in games this year. He's going to get a hard time because of that. It'd be different if he was out there trying.
We're trying to throw the ball downfield and he checked the ball down to Trent Richardson and the Indians on the choice.

Moss was the king of quit before he fell in line with N.E.
I can recall a game against Oakland where his lazy jogs were a huge factor in handing us the game...he was terrible with that.
If that guy's head can be pulled from his rear...anything's possible. With these cats it's all about wins. WR is the new QB in terms of ego fragility...but when a team is winning they're almost always smiling.

Edwards also led the NFL in Drops, alienated Browns fans and said he does not want to be here. Also, look at the target to catch ratio for those guys vs Edwards. You will be shocked.

I never said he didn't but there are a lot of other great WR's that were at the top of that list as well. It's part of the game.
As for the target to catch ratio, that's a two way street. Did he drop a lot of passes? Sure he did but there were probably twice as many that were 2 feet over his head or 2 feet below his waste.
Our QB play was God awful last year. Anderson had a 66.5 rating (50% completion percentage), Quinn a 66.6 rating (50% completion percentage) and Dorsey a 26.4 rating (47% completion percentage).
Not sure how that falls all on his shoulders? Which you're trying to imply by referencing that stat (target to catch ratio). What WR would have a great year with those jokers throwing the ball?
Not trying to make Edwards out to be an angel but you have to be blind to think he's the only problem (or the only diva like personality). I was arguing his value as a FOOTBALL PLAYER. It was in response to Diam saying he wasn't worth a late 1st, which I think he is. Was speaking on football talent alone. Why? Because I don't have the time or the patience to try and debate about whether or not he puts his weekly tithe in the silver tray at church every sunday.

If we really want to get a good pick from him, we need to make it a conditional pick for next year. I am sure with it a contract year the guy will stay focused and play well....if we want it all this year...the 2nd and 5th sounds about right.

Trade of Cleveland Browns receiver Braylon Edwards to the New York Giants could still happen by Tony Grossi/Plain Dealer Reporter Friday April 24, 2009, 1:14 AM
New trade scenarios involving Braylon Edwards and the New York Giants seem to arise daily.
Every day there's a new slant on the prospects of a Braylon Edwards trade to the New York Giants.
Here's the chronological rundown:
• Browns originally asked for outside linebacker Matthias Kiwanuka. Giants said no way.
• Giants offered second- and fifth-round picks plus a choice of receivers Domenik Hixon or Mario Manningham. Browns countered by asking for the picks and receiver Steve Smith. Giants said no.
• Browns asked for first- and third-round picks. Giants said no.
Some media outlets are now reporting the deal is dead.
But consider the following:
• The Browns continue to schedule last-minute workouts with receivers projected to go in the vicinity of the Giants' No. 1 pick, the 29th overall. The latest will occur today, according to the Baltimore Sun, with Darrius Heyward-Bey of Maryland. They also have a workout today with Kenny Britt of Rutgers and previously worked out Georgia's Mohamed Massaquoi.
• Edwards has been conspicuously absent from the Browns' off-season conditioning program.
It may be Braylon being Braylon, or it may be that the Browns don't want him suffering an injury before a trade.
Centers of attention: Because of their myriad needs, the Browns will be handicapped to do much this weekend unless they improve on their current allotment of five draft picks. So pulling off some trades to stockpile picks is a priority.
While much of the pre-draft attention has been focused on making upgrades at pass rusher, receiver, running back and safety, the Browns coaches are said to be fixed on adding a center. They want to replace Hank Fraley with a center more powerful at the point of attack.
The best centers in this draft -- Alex Mack of California, Eric Wood of Louisville and Max Unger of Oregon -- are expected to fall like dominoes toward the bottom of the first round or top of the second round.
The Browns have visited with Wood.
They also have worked out the next-best center, Antoine Caldwell of Alabama, who is projected for the third round.
The Browns don't have a selection in the third round.
Watching Motown: The Detroit Lions' negotiations with their prospective No. 1 pick, Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford, bears watching. The Lions want a deal in place before naming their top pick and supposedly have a deal, or are close to getting one, with Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry as leverage.
If the Stafford talks collapse and Curry becomes Detroit's pick, the Lions very well could re-enter the market for a veteran quarterback. And they know that Derek Anderson's big arm fits their planned new offense to a "T."
The Browns would take about a $9 million hit on their salary cap if Anderson were traded, but they have the room to absorb it.
Besides the No. 1 overall pick, the Lions own picks at No. 20 and No. 33.

If we get a first rounder out of Anderson my faith in humanity will be restored. No way it happens, but a guy can dream, can't he?
Detroit takes Curry, trades for Anderson. We take Crabtree and get back in the first round for BPA. That would be what I call a very good day. It would be as much fun as getting Thomas and Quinn on the same day. Too bad it just isn't going to happen.

I don't see where there being arrogant at all In the fact that they're offering a 2/5..now think ..didn't U not say to me thats too low after I posted what the picks would be if they did it for the two and 5 ?
" If Jeannie and Coke trade BE for that they should be SHOT .... that is not near enough ... that would be a HORRENDOUS TRADE for us .... and it would be the first major mistake these guys have made and would send up the red flags about them ... "
So which is it? How is it too low for us but too high for them?
I agree.. a 2/5 is too low..first the Browns asked for Smith...they said no..now it's Kwi..still a no..and a no to their 29th pick.. Something has to give..that fifth would have to be upgaded or they throw in a player other than Kwi/Smith..
no way would I give up a 1st rnd pick for him .. ESPECIALLY NOT WHEN BOLDIN'S AVAILABLE .. No...U wouldn't if U were on the other side.. Please I don't overvalue Edwards..I just want the Browns to get VALUE out of the deal..all I'm saying..if the Browns take the 2/5..I know who'll say they were dumb for doing that..plus I think "new contract" is what is bugging the Giants..

Honestly, I think the Edwards trade is already a done deal and what we're getting is NYG's 1st rounder this year (#29). Period. I also think that at LEAST one of the QB's goes depending what we get at #5. If Sanchez is still there, we take him and trade Quinn. He would probably go to either the Jets or to Denver, maybe Detroit depending on who they take with #1. If we get a defensive guy at #5 then I think we trade DA for a 3rd round pick. Possibly to Detroit. Maybe the Jets. Maybe even Minnesota. No matter what, the first round tomorrow and especially the first 2 hours should be extremely interesting. It's so interesting that my wife is actually watching the Draft with me this year. My luck, I'll probably have a freakin' stroke at 4:30......

I hope that's not true,, on the surface it doesn't seem to strike me as being a good move. Think about it.. we are dumping a high profile player who played in something like 45 games, winning 20 something of them in College while surrounded by less than quality talent around him, for a guy that's only played 16 college games...
Granted, he looked good doing it, but then, so did Quinn.. so to dump one somewhat unproven guy for another makes no sense to me...
Then again, I don't know what I don't know.. there could be reasons that they would want to trade Quinn that are not readily clear to the fanbase.. things that we are not privy to.

The Giants are full of crap if they think Mangini is going to give them Braylon for a 2 and 5...that is insulting, IMO.
The Giants might be just playing hard ball with the Browns, hoping to offer a little more on draft day, thinking they can get the Browns to agree on less than fair value.
If I'm Mangini, I'm looking for another trading partner because it does not look like the Giants are serious about Braylon unless they can get him cheap...and that would be the last thing I would want Mangini and Kokinis to do....jmho

I think Edwards is as good as traded too, but I'm totally prepared to find out, after all the talk and rumors, that its to a team other than the Giants. I am SO against trading Quinn. The thought of losing him and getting Sanchez makes me sick to my stomach. I'd trade DA in a heartbeat. There. Finally added my 2 cents to the only hot topic in the last 2 weeks.

Makes no sense. Reese will give up a 1st, 2nd and more to move up to get Heyward-Bey but they only want to give us a 2nd & a 5th for Braylon? Giants targeting Maryland receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey BY Ralph Vacchiano DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Friday, April 24th 2009, 12:29 AM Just because the Giants don't expect to make a trade for Braylon Edwards on Saturday doesn't mean they won't make a deal for a receiver. That's still their intention on Day 1 of the NFL draft. And their target appears to be Maryland receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey. According to two sources familiar with the team's plans, the Giants are looking to trade up in the first round with the hopes of getting into position to draft Heyward-Bey. The 6-2, 210-pounder is one of the fastest receivers in the draft - he once ran a 4.23 in the 40-yard dash - and the Giants view him as the big-play, deep threat they so desperately need now that Plaxico Burress has been released. They are also optimistic they can move up high enough to get him. The Giants have an excess of picks this weekend - 10 altogether, including two picks in both the second and third rounds. They had previously offered second- and fifth-round picks - both of which they got from New Orleans last summer in the Jeremy Shockey trade - to Cleveland in an attempt to land Edwards. Those two picks, plus their first-rounder, could be enough to get the Giants as high as the 14th selection in the first round, according to the "draft pick value chart" that NFL personnel people often use. Of course, they can do that only if there's someone willing to drop down to the Giants' current 29th spot, and several NFL sources have said that many teams are looking to drop down in this draft - some for economic reasons, and others because of the talent they feel will be available late in the round. It's not clear just how high the Giants would have to jump to get Heyward-Bey, who made 45 catches for 694 yards and five TDs last season as a junior. However, assuming Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree and Missouri wideout Jeremy Maclin go in the Top 10, as expected, it's hard to imagine Heyward-Bey even getting close to the Giants at No.29. The Jets (at 17), Eagles (21), Vikings (22), Dolphins (25), Ravens (26), and Colts (27) all could have an interest in Heyward-Bey. Even the Cleveland Browns, who could pick up a mid-to-late first-round pick by trading either Edwards or quarterback Brady Quinn, are interested in the Maryland receiver. They even sent a contingent to College Park, Md., to work him out this morning. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/footba...d_receiver.html

Thats your OPINION ... and your entitled to it .. we'll see what the NFL GM's DECIDE ... and hopefully your RIGHT and I'm WRONG ...
I thought the Gnats signing Plex was a HORRIFIC move on there part .. well he was a MAJOR FACTOR in a SB win .. so I was WRONG ...
I would take Reggie Wayne in a nannoo second for a 1st round pick .. HE CATCHES THE FOOTBALL ... to me .. thats the4 MOST IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTE a WR can have ..
just like your entitled to your opinion .. I'm entitled to mine .. and there is NO WAY IN HELL I would give up a first rnd pick for Brey .. NO SHOT ...
drops aside, .. the guys a FIRST CLASS JACK ASS and is HORRIBLE IN THE LOCKER ROOM .. No thanks .. maybe he will mature with a change of scenery and as he grows up .. but until he did that .. NO WAY AM I GIVING UP A FIRST ROUND PICK FOR HIM ..
hopefully the Gnats will ... but even if they do .. I WOULDN'T .. and if they do .. we'll all know how it works out for them .. in 3 OR 4 YEARS ...
for now all that is going is POSTURING ... lets see who caves tommorow ... one of us will ... IMO Brey is GONZO .. and its gonna be the Gnats ... just a matter of who caves or if we meet somewhere in the middle ..
I'm going with a 2nd this year and a CONDITIONAL next year ...
and BTW .. I would give up a 1st for Boldin in a heartbeat .. he is way BETTER than Brey IMO ..
Phil ... Moss is a great example .... thanks .... he garnered all of a 4th rnd pick and Brey could NOT CARRY HIS JOCK ... yet Brey is worth a 1st?? .. *LOL* ... OK ..

Changing directions to Edwards, yes, Edwards would seem to be good enough to be valued at a late 1st rounder. The problem is that as of right now, there are no takers at that price, so he isn't worth a late 1st rounder. That could change.
And Nas, if you can't laugh at yourself because of your unfortunate choice of words, then you need a drink to lighten up. It was funny.
Changing directions again, the trade talk about the Bills moving up to get Andre Smith is confusing. He projects by many to be a right tackle, not a left tackle. So they'd trade up to get a guy who may not be a left tackle?
The Bills climb WAAAAAAAAAY up on their soap-box when talking about character............then sign TO
They talk about how they aren't rebuilding.........then ship their left tackle off to Philly.
Now they may want to trade up to take a guy who's got head problems to play left tackle that probably is only a right tackle?
Next time I want to feel better about what the Browns are doing, I'll just look at the Bills.

1. I said I do not think there being ARROGANT .. I think there being SMART ... U know full well this is just POSTURING on both our parts ..
2. ITS BOTH ... a 1st and a player or another pick is to much for them ... a 2nd and a 5th is not enough for us .. I do not see the dilemma there at all ...
a 2nd and a 5th would be a GREAT DEAL FOR THEM and a HORRIBLE ONE for us ..
3. I believe that Brey is going to have a GREAT YEAR for us if he stays .. so If I'm jeannie/coke I am dealing on PERCIEVED VALUE .. where as If I'mthe Gnats I'd dealing with value that includes his lack of production last year and the fact he wants out of C-Town ..
I believe the deal gets done .. and its a comprimise .. maybe like Otto says .. there 1st period ... or maybe like i just said ... 2nd this year and a conditional next ..
we'll know tommorow or maybe even later today on this one .. but i have no clue why U are having trouble with my views on this or how there conflicting .. when u look at it from BOTH SIDES it becomes very clear ..

Not having any trouble ...U said I was overvaluing him..there's the conflict..I don't overvalue him but being a young play player and playing a position they need ... I'm saying I want some value out of the trade..
I also said they'd have to throw in another player(doesn't have to be Kwi or Smith) if the picks stayed at 2/5, which I would still think is lowball..a 5th doesn't do us any good when we lack a third rounder and have numerous holes to fill.. heck a 4th would be something I would stomach, because you can move up with a extra fourth...
I know it's posturing...and I think it will change when it comes near their time to pick and Hayward-Braylon II is gone .. Now if they give up a second and a third next year, that would perk my ears. But that 5th is almost worthless to me.

On Edwards 1) The Browns stick with at least a 1st or nothing for Edwards.
2) If that doesn't pan out, they can still try a trade durring a season to a team trying to make a run and in those curcumstances the buyer always over pays.
3) If that doesn't happen, Franchise him. Try and work out a deal or a sign and trade.
On Quinn;
If you can get a 1st round > 20 than make the trade. Don't draft Sanchez. (hopfully someone will want to trade up and we can get more picks inside #20), if we are still at 5 select Raji and our D-Line is fixed IMO. With the selection from a Quinn deal chose either Cushing, Maualuga or Mattews Jr. if they are gone choose Wells. If all of them are gone....IDK.
I know that leaves us with Derek, but he CAN win games. All his faults aside he had that 2nd Baltimore game but Braylon dropped the game icing TD and the Defense gave up a 13pt lead. And that was to the same Baltimore team that went to the AFC Championship. I'm not saying he is great but we can win with him if they can fix this Defense. And if we can get a 1st round teen pick for Quinn.....so be it.

Braylon is going to have a big year in 2009 because it is his contract year
I love that line. Basically, we should sign everyone to one year contracts because players only seem to put forth any effort or are guaranteed to to perform at a high level only in the last year of a contract?
He's only going to have as good of a year as the QB throwing him the ball and his ability to catch it allows.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

I could argue his dream did come true, just not the way he wanted it. Hmm....
I'm with you on Edwards not being worth a 1st. I figure a very late first or high 2nd rounder is good value if bundled with a solid defensive player. Anderson or Quinn, I don't really care that much which one gets traded. I'm still kind of in the Keep Quinn camp but I won't be sticking my head in the oven if he gets dealt for a good value.
My thinking on Quinn is that we still have a high pick invested in him and we got Anderson on the cheap. Anderson will give us the most bang for our buck in a trade. Either one is for sale if the price is right.
