....I have been wondering the same thing about both Edwards & Quinn...Could this be an attempt to trade both , with the real goal of driving up the value of each player heading into Draft Day and of course 2010 ?....IF so we should talking to the Eagles about Edwards and their 21st pick....We might get a deal , but we would put pressure on the Giants....As for Quinn , I wish he would remain as our Starter....but where Quinn and Draft Day are concerned you just Never know what might happen....** I do wish Savage was a GM somewhere , I would like to see what his level of interest is in acquiring Quinn now ....

Sorry, but it is annoying, and voids and validity to posts when people can't refer to Mangini or Kokinis as separate people with silly nicknames. Wonder why they don't call it Kogini, although I'm sure I know why.

I think this team has a lot of needs. It doesn't make sense to me to trade away a player and create a new need just to draft that same position at #5.

It just seems like a step back to me. I believe that there are just as many questions about an unproven rookie as there are with Quinn if not more. So why not just keep Quinn and draft another position at #5.

I think the same can be said for BE. He isn't one of my favorite players but there is no telling whether Crabtree will be better or not so why trade a proven commodity to just draft that same position at #5.

I have no problem trading anyone to acquire more picks I just think the #5 pick can be used on something more valuable than a QB or WR. I'm still of the opinion we have 2 QB's that can get the job done so it seems a waste to draft another at 5. I know DA isn't the greatest but he is better than some we have had in the past and we did win 10 games with him at QB.

I have to agree. Nobody combined Savage and Crennel into Crennelage. They're two people and I don't understand why some think they need to be referred as one name (even it's it a joke).

It's Mangini and Kokinis. Type it out.

Anyway, Clark Judge says the Giants have pulled out of any talks with the Browns over BE

http://clarkjudge.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6384866/14650617

A source close to the Giants tells me the club is out of the Braylon Edwards talks because the price was too steep. A week ago, it looked like it would happen. Now, it doesn't, with the team committed to finding Plaxico Burress' replacement in the draft. The Giants talked about Anquan Boldin, too, but those talks are dead, too, according to the source. The Giants must find an outside receiver in the draft because, as one source said, "they don't have a No. 1 or No. 2 receiver. They're all threes and fours."

How long does it take for the Giants to realize they can't get a player of edwards' caliber at their biggest position of need using their first and all of their seconds together in the draft?

Maybe if Edwards is of that "caliber", we shouldn't even be trying to trade him, as in "If you guys want him, he is a fantastic player, but if we keep him, he's a bum."

it's more about if he wants to stay than if we want to keep him.

he wants out. he can barely keep a straight face when he says he loves the team here. especially now that winslow and crennel are gone.

The factor in trading him is that it's known he won't resign here...so you don't let the kid walk without getting something..now the BROWNS have to figure they're in the drivers seat..not the Giant Green Beans..or any other team.

They can franchise him next year(think so) if they can't get what they want ..U want at least one first rounder + another pick for him..as much as I want to see him traded..I don't want to see the Browns get taken by a scam of a deal..seen enough of that crap.

It doesn't matter if Braylon "wants" to resign here or not....people make it sound like this is the MLB. EM is smart enough that he isn't gonna give BE up for anything less than a 1st & 3rd because he knows he can probably get that next offseason.

Everyone, wake the heck up, Braylon will be franchised next offseason. He isn't just gonna walk out the door and the Browns get nothing.

Braylon is going to have a big year in 2009 because it is his contract year, therefore driving up his value. BE may not wanna stay here, which is fine, franchise him and trade him away.

EM is playing this right, don't give BE away unless you get a really good deal.

We can't cut off our nose.

At this point, with all that has been said and done, it probably wouldn't be a good team move to keep Edwards.

We are in a position where we are going to have to move him IMO.

I know....it's easy to say he is under contract and he plays where he is signed, but we all know there is more to it than that.

Desire goes a long way towards how well a guy plays and what kind of a team mate he projects.

Oh I agree with what you and clevesteve are saying. I'm just making the argument that so many people bash him for his level of play, but when the Giants don't want to give us a 1st for him, we say "why not??? the guy is great!" You can't have it both ways.

The Giants want to keep their team intact and not give up a pick they want to use on another area..thats the way I see it.
They want the icing on the CAKE..and keep a scoup of Ice cream..Think about it..if they get to keep their first round pick, they can actually take another WR..or another area they want..that 29th pick can go a long way for a team just removed from the SB..
They can reload and get a big vet wideout.
The 5th isn't squat..chump change..
No matter what i think of Edwards, if I'm trading him I'm getting the most I can from a team that covets him...
Sorry Peen..the Browns may indeed give him for the 2/5 but thats crap..I won't like that..

I KNOW who they are interested in. Just rather trade DA. Quinn has barely had any playing time, and we're going to give him away, draft ANOTHER QB, and start all over again.

Like I said, offer them DA for whatever they got. Some sideline markers for practice should suffice.

Yeah, it's somewhat comical really.

WR's notoriously don't break out till year 3 and they're trying to find one that can be a legitimate #1, in his first year, at the bottom of the first round.

The Giants are being incredibly stupid about this, especially when you consider the fact that their #1 draft pick is pretty much a #2 given how far down in the draft it is.

I just hope we don't cave and move him anyway. Edwards is worth more than a late 2 and 5. Especially when you consider what Dallas had to pony up for Roy Williams, who is definitely not in Edwards class IMO.

The offer is apparently Andrews OR Brown, along with #21. I would need it to be both players, along with Philly's 1st & 3rd round picks.

the eagles want our #5 and BE--- they must think we are idiots. Brown or Andrews would not even be a fair swap of the #5 to #21, not to mention throwing in BE for good measure.

I really do think the giants are being retarded if they pass on BE in the hopes that a 1st round wideout will be able to step into the void created by Plax shooting himself.

If all the browns can get is a 2nd and a 5th, BE stays a brown, and gets franchised next year. Infact, he can be tagged potentially for 2 more years based on his years of service and the jumbled CBA. So, like it or not, BE might be a brown for 3 more years. Obviously, he would cost a chunk of change those last 2 years.

Back to the eagles, they have many extra picks. If they want to work out a deal of a 1st and 3rd, it really would not hurt them that much.

I hope Kokinis is stubborn when it comes to trading BE. He has value and there is no point to just give him away.

I've seen this said so many times:
Quote:

We can just Franchise Tag Edwards next year and get a 1st round pick then.

Here's the problem with that line of thinking:

What if Edwards tanks?

So we're going to Franchise tag a player who's trending downwards for the second season in a row? Sure, we can control him then, but we're also going to be on the hook for $10 million bucks for a crappy player who STILL doesn't want to be here, and in fact will hate it even more. Who's going to trade a 2nd and a 5th for Edwards then?

Just because we can tag him next year doesn't mean he's going to play well enough to warrant such a move.

Edwards isn't gonna tank, not in my opinion.

Contract year. Divas with all the ability in the world do not tank it in their contract years. They rise to the occasion for the payday and upcoming fame.

It may prove wise to keep him and hold onto him next year and trade him for maximum value, rather than the lowball offers we've received.

I don't buy it.

Remember, he and Rosenhaus wanted a new contract BEFORE this past season, so in many ways, that WAS his contract year.

Besides, contract year or no contract year, he still leads the league in drops over the last two or three years. That can't be fixed with a new contract.

Maybe I'm reading you wrong here, but if he tanks next year, why would we bother to tag him.. let him go,, good riddence...

Only if he has an amazing year would I tag him.. then we could ask for lots more than a 2nd and 5th...

Not sure we could get two 1sts.. but if he has that good a year,, it wouldn't shock me either.

Shouldn't every year be played the same?!?! Contract year or not...

That is the exact reason why I want Braylon out of this city right now!!! I loved the pick when we got him but never expected the attitude.

Let's go Curry #5, Wells #21 (or trade up to assure we can get him), then in the 2nd we can pick the next two best WR's (Britt, Robiskie, Massaquio, or anyone else) if MACK is not available with our first 2nd round pick... I'd hate to draft two WR's in round 2, but why not... it would be our biggest need if we trade Edwards and not pick Crabtree....

I guess we could go Curry, Nicks(21), then go say.... Donald Brown and Robiskie...

Also... if Quinn is a Brown after round 1... then Anderson is gone for a 3rd round pick.. IMO.

No, you're reading me EXACTLY right, D, EXACTLY right.

You get it

That brings me back to the faulty belief that we can absolutely get big trade value for him next year.

It's a HUGE HUGE HUGE leap of faith to assume he's going to have a big year. He doesn't want to be here, his support within the organization were all fired (while another was traded to Tampa), and he's coming off a year where he couldn't play worth a crap.

Nobody should be assuming he's going to have a big year. That's wishful thinking.

well, I can't speak for anyone but myself,, but I don't believe he will have a great year either,,, but I hope he does... maybe then we can get some value by tagging him..

But for me, it's more of a hope... not a belief.

"It's Mangini and Kokinis. Type it out."

or if you wish to combine the two (as in our regime being a joint effort) you can simply do M/K to abbreviate it.

No matter what anyone says - its can be of only two directions. One to insult...which is how it got started. Or one to have the pleasure and sophmoric...tee hee hee value in writing ManKok.

what can you do...its a free country. I simply refuse to join and will stick with my M/K...just hold that shift key down

Let's not forget who needs who...I say stick to your guns. We don't need to get rid of Braylon if they want him they need to pay the piper. They can draft Harvin so all their receivers are under 6 foot tall. Trust me, they need him to fill plaxico's shoes....not to compliment Steve Smith or Hixon. They have no #1. Oh wait Amani Toomer...lol

Tony Grossi's blog: Braylon Edwards not participating in Cleveland Browns conditioning program
by Tony Grossi/Plain Dealer Reporter
Thursday April 23, 2009, 2:03 PM

Chuck Crow/The Plain Dealer
Is Braylon Edwards headed to the Giants or isn't he?
Updated at 4:05 p.m.
CLEVELAND -- While some media outlets have reported the Braylon Edwards trade talks between the Browns and New York Giants have all but died, consider the following:

Edwards has been a recent no-show at the Browns' offseason conditioning program. His absence may be on advice from his agent. Or it may be with the blessing of the Browns, who don't want him suffering an injury prior to a trade.

It could also be Edwards' way of protesting the inclusion of himself in trade talks. Then again, Kellen Winslow said Edwards would love to play in New York.

* Don't be surprised if the Browns use one of their second-round picks -- or one in the third round if they are able to acquire it -- on a center.

The coaches, said a source, have determined the team has to get bigger at center and more powerful at the point of attack.

The best centers in this draft -- Alex Mack of California, Eric Wood of Louisville and Max Unger of Oregon -- are expected to fall in rapid fire towards the bottom of the first round or top of the second. The Browns did invite Wood to a pre-draft visit.

The next-best center, Antoine Caldwell of Alabama, has been worked out by the Browns. Caldwell is projected for the third round.

It appears that Hank Fraley will be the next "big name" to fall from the Browns' roster.

* Keep an eye on the Detroit Lions' negotiations with quarterback Matthew Stafford. They're said to be now in the "contentious" stage. The Lions might already have a deal in place with linebacker Aaron Curry.

If the Stafford talks fail and the Lions go to Plan B and select Curry with the No. 1 overall pick, they would re-enter the market for a veteran quarterback. And they know that Derek Anderson's big arm fits their planned new offense to a T.

Would the Lions be agreeable to trading their pick at the top of the second round, No. 33 overall, for Anderson? Would the Browns be agreeable to taking about a $9 million hit on their salary cap by trading Anderson? (They've got the room.) It's a development that everybody from Detroit to Cleveland is keeping an open mind to.

Now, what an unexpected conclusion to this soap opera it would be if Anderson is the Browns QB ultimately that is traded, and not Brady Quinn."

I, for one, would not be surprised if Anderson was moved. In fact, I hope it turns out that way.

Move DA and BE and get a WR and a Center w/ BQ behind center. Then get J.P Losman or Rex Grossman for a # 2

Charlie Casserly got fired b/c he chose Mario Williams instead of Reggie Bush. In retrospect, he was right. Maybe Detroit will take one of the LTs. It's not out of the question considering the risk involved with the money a QB will command and the bust ratio of QBs vs. Tackles. It would be a win-win for both us and the Lions.

I read all that earlier today, and thought to myself "Hmmm......I like what I'm seeing from this new regime, for the most part."

I didn't think we had to go into rebuilding mode, but I dig the radio-silence, I like the auctioning block for guys like Winslow, Edwards, Quinn, and Anderson, I like the fact they believe Lewis isn't finished, and I like the fact they recognize that Fraley isn't any answer to anything.

is this correct?? $9million? He was paid the roster bonus of around 5, where did the other 4 come from??

i would be happy with Detroits 3rd rounder- its at the top so essentially a 'late' second rounder. It would come before the compsensatory picks as well. Thats a good deal.

2/29/2008: Signed a three-year, $24 million contract. The deal contains $14.5 million guaranteed, including a $7 million signing bonus. Another $1 million is available through incentives based on Pro Bowls and performance. 2009: $1.45 million (+ $50,000 workout bonus + $5 million guaranteed roster bonus due 3/15), 2010: $7.45 million (+ $2 million roster bonus), 2011: Free Agent. Cap charge: $8.8 million (2009).

$7 million SB over 3 years: $2.33 million per season
plus $1.45 million salary
plus $50 k workout bonus
equals $3.83 million
plus $5 million RB
equals $8.83 million

I read all that earlier today, and thought to myself "Hmmm......I like what I'm seeing from this new regime, for the most part."

I didn't think we had to go into rebuilding mode, but I dig the radio-silence, I like the auctioning block for guys like Winslow, Edwards, Quinn, and Anderson, I like the fact they believe Lewis isn't finished, and I like the fact they recognize that Fraley isn't any answer to anything.

I'm holding my opinion still I see what they do on Saturady..I know I for one will be glued to the TV cause I really expect the Browns to be active. I would really like to see the Browns end up with Alex Mack or Eric Wood. If our center positon is addressed and we pick up Donald Brown or Chris Wells then I can see our running game to be vastly improved.

Go Browns!!
