The Philadelphia Eagles are close to working out a trade with the Buffalo Bills to acquire left tackle Jason Peters, multiple sources said Friday.
Terms of the Eagles' proposal are not known, but Peters was asked to fly to Philadelphia today to meet with team officials. The Eagles have 12 picks, including two first-round selections, in next weekend's NFL draft; it is believed they might have to give up a first-round pick -- or more -- to acquire him.
A trade would be contingent on Peters passing a physical exam, but it might also require Peters agreeing to a contract extension. If that is the case, talks between the Eagles and the player's agent, Eugene Parker, have not yet begun because of the swiftness of the discussions.
For more than a year, Peters has been in a contract stalemate with the Bills. He's made two Pro Bowls at left tackle and wants to become one of the highest-paid at his position -- at an annual salary of possibly more than $11 million.
Peters is scheduled to make $3.375 million for the coming season. Last year he held out of training camp, but the decision did not get him a new contract. Peters is signed through 2010 and can then become a free agent.
A great success story for the Bills, Peters was an undrafted tight end out of Arkansas. The Bills turned him into an offensive lineman and he ended up starting 10 games by his second season. Buffalo eventually turned him into one of the best left tackles in the game.

If they traded one of their 1st rounders for Peters (which they probably will) would they trade the other one for Edwards/Boldin/Ocho Cinco?
I think they would. They know their window is closing and this could be one the last years the compete at a high level.

The Philadelphia Eagles have worked out an agreement in principle to acquire Buffalo Bills left tackle Jason Peters, according to multiple sources.
For Peters, the Bills will receive a first-round pick (the 28th selection in the round), a fourth-rounder in next weekend's draft and an undisclosed pick in 2010, according to a source.
Peters has been asked to fly to Philadelphia on Friday to meet with the Eagles, who have 12 draft choices including two first-round selections. Any trade would be contingent on Peters passing a physical, but it might also require Peters to agree to a contract extension.
The Eagles and Peters' agent, Eugene Parker, were scheduled to open contract talks Friday.
According to an Eagles source, the Eagles would like to have a contract in place before the trade is complete. Because of that, the Eagles might not be able to announce the trade until as late as Sunday.
For more than a year, Peters has been in a contract stalemate with the Bills. He's made two Pro Bowls at left tackle and wants to become one of the highest-paid players at his position -- at an annual salary of possibly more than $11 million.

Or, now that the Bills have 2 1st rounders, what if one of the LTs falls to us at 5 (not likely, but what if...). You think they come calling?
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

If one falls, do the Bengals need a LT? Or the Jags? If so, yeah maybe the Bills get scared and trade up... awww, who knows? Can't wait 'til the draft gets here to end all this speculation.

#5 and #50 for #11, #28, and #75.
How does Matthews and Lauranitis sound in the first?

I personally think the Bills made out in this deal. Someone posted a while back a list of all the LTs and how many sacks they gave up last year and if i remember correctly Peters gave up something like 12 or more sacks last year.

Terrible. JL is as bad of a fit for the 3-4 as you can find.

Yeah, versatile LBs that fly ot the ball and are often in the backfield are a terrible fit for the Browns' 3-4.

I thought we were talking about James Lauranitis here?
James is going to be very similar to Andra Davis. I want no part of him here.
Who knows about Matthews.

You are clearly an OSU homer. I am as well, but I can distinguish between fact and fiction. JL is a good fit for a tampa 2 or 4-3 team. He will be a huge bust in a 3-4.

Have you ever seen Brinkley play in a game?
If a 3rd/4th round pick can be overrated, he definitely is. He's certainly not one of the top 2 ILB for the 3-4 in this draft.

Yes, you didn't. Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you had. Lots of people are saying it but from the couple SC games I watched precifically for him I was unimpressed. He's not a playmaker.
Lauranitis, on the other hand, is. He has great instincts and is an attack LB... not a wait and see LB like Davis.
As far as being an OSU homer, I think Freeman is just a little undervalued in the draft but I think he's got absolutely no buisness being in a 3-4.

LT is a very real possiblity for Cincy at #6, Oakland at #7, Jax #8 and SF at #10

LT is possible for GB but I really think they will go defense. With the planned conversion to 3-4 i really believe they take Raji if he falls otherwise one of those DE/OLB conversion guys Brown or Maybin.

Will this open the possibility of Chris Wells falling to us in the 2nd round? I'm not an OSU homer by any means, but a Wells/Harrison combo sounds very nice.

http://www.rotoworld.com has tackle as the Packers #1 need Green Bay Packers 1. T: It's a good thing there are a lot of good tackles in this draft because it seems like every team needs one. Green Bay may want two. 2. DE: They need to draft linemen who fit their new 3-4 defense. 3. DT: Ryan Pickett fits well as a 3-4 run stuffer, but counting on him to stay healthy is asking too much. 4. RB: This would be a luxury pick Ted Thompson probably wouldn't make, but he's not shy about overstocking skill positions. Ryan Grant, Brandon Jackson, and DeShawn Wynn add up to a lot of meh. Whereas Pat Kirwin has it 3rd http://www.nfl.com Green Bay Packers Defensive end: Cullen Jenkins should adjust nicely to the Packers' new 3-4 scheme, but he's coming off an injury and might be slow to work his way into the defense. Johnny Jolly likely will have to convert to end after playing tackle in the 4-3. Mike Montgomery wasn't all that productive in the 4-3 and must add weight to stay at end in the 3-4. Outside linebacker: Every indication is that Aaron Kampman has the athleticism, experience and football IQ to make a seamless transition to the 3-4 and excel as an outside linebacker. Brady Poppinga is slated as a starter opposite Kampman, but 3-4 teams can't have enough linebackers or players who can rush the passer. Offensive tackle: Mark Tauscher is coming off major knee surgery, and Chad Clifton has had knee issues of his own. Tauscher is a free agent who likely will re-sign if he can prove he's healthy, but the Packers need to keep an eye toward the future. Punter: Derrick Frost won't be back, and Jeremy Kapinos didn't even average 40 yards per punt in limited opportunities. Defensive tackle: At 330 pounds, Ryan Pickett has the size and girth to man the middle, but durability could be an issue. The Packers might want to look for a young plugger to play in rotation.

Our pick at # 5 isn't worth 2 1st Rd. picks unless the Den Really wants to move up and get our selection at # 5....I'm not sure that KC won't surprise Everybody and select Sanchez at # 3 and than trade Cassel to DEN....** It looks like Edwards will probably be gone for tthe Giants # 29 & # 91....The throw in players will be the piece that tilts the traded in favor of the eventual Winner in the Edwards situation....** I would not be shocked if Edward and Quinn were not traded....Mangini & Kokinis very well could have been sending a message to both Edwards & Quinn that it's time to step up and at the same time tested the market in the end increased the value of both players....**....Finding a way to acquire the best 6 Day 1 picks that we can get and than use them wisely and add New Starters at these positions.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WR....IF Edwards is going Crabtree Must arrive at # 5.... RT....Oher or Britton at # 29.... OLB....Matthews or Sintim at # 36.... DE....Johnson at # 50.... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- At that point as I said assuming that Edwards is gone seek to do the best I could to add New Starters at C & RG .... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Assuming that Edwards stays ....I would use our 5th pick to trade down and gain the most value that I could in this Draft....With that compensation we should have no problem in adding at C & RG.....IMO our Draft Board would look impressive IF we can stockpile Day 1 picks and use them wisely........

j/c How do the Bills send a probowl left tackle packing????? The official terms of the trade sent a 2009 first-round draft pick (28th overall), a 2009 fourth-round draft pick and an undisclosed late-round 2010 pick from the Eagles to the Bills in exchange for Peters. They (the bills) got hosed in this deal. IMO for a Probowl left tackle- the starting price is two firsts minimum.... I wondered if the eagles would try to trade into the top of round one to draft a stud left tackle. So with this trade, thats out. But now, what are the bills going to do- are they trying to jump into the top five? This might be good news for Curry supporters---- the bills could jump ino the number 3 slot with their two first rounders. That would potentially mean QB, tackle, tackle 1-2-3 and the hawks on the clock. Would the hawks take Curry?? But from a business standpoint- one again has to wonder what the heck the bills were doing- if this is their plan, they should have just paid their guy the money instead of on an unproven tackle high in the first round?????? Glad i'm not a bill fan, this trade is really hard to justify from all angles.

I cannot remember a bonafide "STARTING" Left Tackle ever being traded before. Nor could I ever remember one being let go to leave the team via FAgency. This is a first. What's the matter with Buffalo??? Is the owner hurting for Money?? I know he's been wanting to play in Toronto for a while now???
Just an absolutely great trade for the Eagles as the are a team read to win and had a great need for a LT. And instead of picking up a Shelton, Verba, Stokes, etc....he got a Pro-Bowler who is still young.

The eagles see their window starting to close- the QB and RB are aging. They just solidified the left tackle. Now they need a stud WR. I see these guys as a huge player in the BE trade rumors.

I just can't BELIEVE how good of a deal the Eagles got. WOW.
And as far as Buffalo trading up - if they're too cheap to dish out the dough to a proven tackle, why would they move up to #5 and give a boatload of guaranteed cash to a rookie?

It was partially money...but the Bills have said publicly now that it was the fact that he was becoming a locker room issue. One that they did not want to deal with anymore. My guess it was also because of TO....You can have one and get away with it...but when you have multiple ones...things get out of hand quickly....ask the Cowboys.

Not only that but this guy also gave up 12.5 sacks last year. The worst of all the LTs in the league.

I keep reading that their window is starting to close... what??
Jason Peters 27 Max Jean-Gilles 25 Jamaal Jackson 28 Shawn Andrews 26 Stacy Andrews 27
They have some quality young depth as well.. for example I know they picked Winston Justice in round 2 a couple years ago and he doesn't even start. By the way, that is a nasty Oline if I have ever seen one.. wow.....
McNabb isn't that old but his history of injuries has to be worrisome, same idea.
Oh yeah they drafted Kevin Kolb with their first pick a couple years ago. He's 24.
Westbrook, like McNabb, isn't that old (currently 29), but he's always beat up yet always finds a way to play. If he's an issue they can just draft another one... quality and productive rookie RBs come out every year.
Juqua Parker 30 Mike Patterson 25 Brodrick Bunkley 25 Trent Cole 26 Asante Samuel 28 All the starting LBs are 25 or younger.
I think they'll be fine.. they are a team on the rise and they in recent memory they have almost always built with an eye for the future. I don't see Andy Reid trading a first round pick plus more for Edwards.
And to the person who said they wouldn't be surprised if they saw the Chiefs trade Cassel to the Broncos...
I'd be more than a little bit surprised to see Pioli ship a division rival's coach his hand picked and personally groomed STARTING QUARTERBACK.
