After being cut by the New England Patriots this week, linebacker Bo Ruud was awarded today to the Cleveland Browns after making a waiver claim, the team announced.

Ruud is a former Patriots sixth-round draft pick from Nebraska. The 6′3,” 235-pounder spent his rookie campaign on injured reserve in New England.

At Nebraska, Ruud started 33 games and recorded 216 career tackles, 4 1/2 sacks and 25 tackles for losses with a total of five interceptions. He tied a school record by returning three interceptions for touchdowns.

The Browns also cut running back Allen Patrick, a former Baltimore Ravens draft pick from the University of Oklahoma.

Browns claim Bo Ruud
04.30.2009
The Cleveland Browns today were awarded linebacker Bo Ruud off waivers from the New England Patriots. In addition, the Browns announced that they released running back Allen Patrick.

Ruud was a sixth-round draft choice of New England last year and spent his entire rookie season on the Patriots' injured reserve list. The 6-3, 235-pounder played in 46 games with 33 starts in his career at Nebraska and totaled 216 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 25 stops for loss. He also intercepted five passes, three of which he returned for touchdowns, tying a school record. Born September 2, 1984, Ruud attended Lincoln (Neb.) Southeast High School.

Lots of bodies at LB, I'm liking these moves. The previous regimes seemed to pick up someone and be done with it. These guys seem to be willing to try as many as possible to find the right fit.

The more I see their plan unfolding, the more I like it. Build thru the draft, and with young players. Man I would like to finally see things done the right way. I just hope that we as fans are not being fooled again.

The part that sucks the most for me, is that they are doing the things I felt they should, and I want to be excited, but history makes it hard to do.

Had that exact conversation yesterday with a buddy of mine. He's really fed up, and short of giving up completely, he's really dialed back his expectations and his enthusiasm. To be honest, I'm not that far behind him.

Just wondering where the people are who complain that we're the Cleveland Jets.

Well, the Jets were better than the Browns last year, so it's not necessarily a bad thing.

I don't care who we sign, as long as they help put us back on top.

I live with Steeler fans all around me. Some true ones, and many bandwagon riders.
It is impossible to talk any football around them without someone bashing the Browns. I was talking about the Vikings the other day, and their Oline. At least two people butted in with comments like..."I guess the Browns are winning the division since they have a new line?"
It gets old. No matter what the conversation is about, somehow someone always throws the Browns in it, knowing that I am a die hard fan.
What hurts, is if they were to beat Pittsburgh this year, all I would hear is about how they beat us for ten years straight, or that they won the superbowl and we didin't. It is never about now, and if the past is brought up, it always starts in the seventies, and skips the eighties.

I would love to win the division, but to beat them in Heinz field would be like Christmas to me. Sometimes I think I would be happy if we were 2-14, as long as those two are over Pittsburgh.

Ruud doesn't play right tackle, so my hopes he did are gone.

The question is does this spell the end of Leon Williams getting major playing time.

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Didn't see anyone else mention this.

I saw that a few people on here were pretty high on Patrick. I guess Mangini and Kokinis aren't.

That's because he probably isn't that good. Just like Ruud probably isn't that good either.

It's a reach to say this guy will replace Williams...I'd say that is more Kaluka's job ATM.

and if the 50's and 60's are brought up.. it's in the past.. and doesn't count.. especially since it wasn't during the "Super Bowl" years.

As long as were being realistic, and not making things more than what they really are, than we cant be fooled again.

Seeing on the field is believing, until than it's all a big stincky pile of nothing.

Williams got a lot more playing time than the other rookies/ young players... He was generally always in the game on 3rd down.. He is the one that cut some of Davis's playing time..

He played okay, but never stood out...

I was always intrigued by the guy.....don't know if that qualifies as being high on the guy.

No big deal....I am high on Davis, so it works out even better.

he was good last year, i liked him, but when you focused on him alone you could see that he was lost about 40% of the time still-that always bothered me. He has skill, kind of like Chaun Thompson, but is raw-he needs some coaching, lol

Just remember we are bringing in like 85 guys into camps...30+ will be cut before the entire process is done.

Not all coming in have a specific purpose to win a starting job. This regime seems to be looking for more FOOTBALL INTELLIGENCE with of course Talent but kids who KNOW FOOTBALL....btw his brother is Ruud of the Tampa Pro-Bowl fame, this kid has been around football for quite some time.

He was being waived...and we picked him up.

Also there is one fact from last year - I thought our Coverage Sucked on special teams. Where did our new Special Teams coach come from? Where did Ruud come from? He was on IR??? all last season - Injured at least most of the season.

But from Camps I would Seely remembers this kid and the hopes he had last year in having him on his Special Teams.

This like in many areas I expect and also see much attention in improving on...last year if Cribbs didn't make the tackle...it seemed the opponent got a lot. We did not do well as a Unit.

Get away from the 22. Will Ruud produce better than Leon on Special Teams???

If we see Roster changes like this - no we are not seeing a NEW Coach total rebuilding but what we do see is an elimination of Athletic promise doing nothing to Kids who don't have the sexy numbers but just KNOW FOOTBALL and can PLAY FOOTBALL

Can't wait to see the fire our Special Teams have!

IMO it would be an upgrade from the pitiful 4-12 we posted last year.

Decent enough for me. The more competition the better. Good luck to the newest temporary.
