Per Sporting News: http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/real_scouts/entry/view/23788/Posted By Mike Florio 1:10 PM In the days and weeks preceding the 2009 draft, there were many rumors and reports linking Browns receiver Braylon Edwards to the New York Giants. In the end, the Giants opted to address the void created by the release of receiver Plaxico Burress by drafting wideout Hakeem Nicks. But Edwards still might end up in New York. Tony Grossi of the Cleveland Plain Dealer recently floated the possibility of the Browns sending Braylon to the Jets in a trade that would reunite running back Thomas Jones with Browns coach Eric Mangini. The disclosure came in response to a reader question regarding the possibility of the Jets cutting Jones, who is skipping offseason workouts apparently due to displeasure with his contract. "Rex Ryan knows that Mangini would scoop up Jones in a New York second if Jones were released," Grossi writes. "More likely is a future trade involving Jones and, yes, Edwards. You heard it here first." The move would make plenty of sense, for both teams. The Jets haven’t replaced receiver Laveranues Coles, and they traded up to the top of round three to get running back Shonn Greene, who could be paired with tailback Leon Washington. And since the Browns could use help in the backfield and have been beefing up their passing game with second-rounders like Brian Robiskie and Mohamed Massaquoi, an Edwards-for-Jones swap would improve the Browns right away — if either of the rookie receivers can fill the void created by Edwards' departure. The challenge, in our view, will be for the Browns to get something more from the Jets in addition to Jones. And that's where the action would be on any such transaction, regardless of whether the Browns want yet another of Mangini’s former pupils or whether they want one or more 2010 draft picks.

We don 't have a viable replacement for BE right now so this trade isn't gonna happen IMO... this is just more media speculation. blahblahblahgottafillspace Robiskie & Massaqoui aren't ready to lead our receiving corps.

isn't Thomas Jones like 29? Who trades a 26year old #1 wideout for an almost-30 RB?

Because Tony Grossi said so, of course.
Non story because Grossi doesn't know what the hell he is talking about.

This is a non-story. This is merely Florio reading what Grossi wrote...and Grossi's throwing anything he can at a wall hoping it sticks on this one.

He's not ALMOST 30,, he is 30 http://www.nfl.com/players/thomasjones/profile?id=JON755755I think this may be another one of those times when Grossi is just trying to get someone to respond.. in other words, I'm not buying in.

Just a "Float"...Way 2 go Grossi...
Edwards isn't goin' anywhere now...And this may just benefit us...
We know the CBA...RFA vs. Franchise Tag...Either way...A solid season sets us up perfectly for MORE than the 29 pick in a draft...
STARE AT EM' Quinn...lol...

No way we trade our #1 receiver for a rb. on the down side of his career. Beside we still have Lewis and Koke said theu where excited about Lewis this year. This article makes no sense.

This is Grossi speculating---or just hit with a case of wishful thinking. I don't think that we move Braylon---right now he is too valuable to be traded away---especially for just another aging running back.
We got Lewis, Harrison, Hrron, and that rookie who a lot of folks seem to think has a real legitimate shot at making the team this year.
I really think Grossi is kind of a moron.

I hope you're right. I like Thomas Jones, but I liked him three-four years ago much more..................I always felt like the Bears gave him a raw deal. They kept wanting to play Benson who was obviously a worse back. I still am confused about it, Jones has great instincts and was very shifty and quick. He got yards in every way when running the ball, and he blocked and was an option out of the backfield. The guy was consistently productive, may be not getting homerun breakaways but he consistently racked up yards
Jones is too old now though.
There's other guys that we can get for Braylon if need be too. Jones is a step up from Lewis, but not that big of a step........... We might be able to get Larry Johnson for him, he'd be much better than Jones. He'd cost a lot more, but he's also pretty good. Looking at it..........Johnson is 29 himself, but much fewer carries.
Either way, I'm not interested in trading Braylon for these people. He'll be better next year, then we franchise him and see what we can get for him then........
PS: If Mangini really wants to do this I hope that Kokinis has the balls to say no freakin way.............

I don't know if he wants them to fail or not, but he's probably a little ticked off that his sources of inside info are gone and that Mangini and Kokinis don't exactly let much out either. they do play it close to the vest which basically hamstrings reporters whose job it is to cover the Browns..
Makes it tough for them to write decent articles, and if you can't write about the facts, you have two choices,, don't write about the Browns, or come up with somewhat plausible slants and express them as real,,
That's what I think this is. What's odd is that it's coming at a time just after reporters have had access to players for two days last weekend.. I'd think they would get them some fodder to chew.... Guess not..
Odd...

I dont live in Ohio anymore... But does Grossi think before he writes ever? Being one of the lead reporters for the hometown team... you would think he would actually have insight. Not just dumb ideas.

I hope this isn't true. I would have rather had draft picks than Thomas Jones. I could care less whether Braylon goes or stays.

Not making excuses for him, but it's gotta be hard to do your job if you are getting stonewalled by the team and can't get info... It's just gotta be tough..
Having said that, Grossi is the idiot that said on the TV show he does on Mondays during the season.. The Point After starring him, Doug Dieken, Jim Donovan and Coach Sam... Grossi said that Bill Cowher would be our coach next year.., He guaranteed it in fact.. This was the year before we went 10-6 and romeo was rewarded with a contract extension... LOL,,, Grossi cracks me up..

A Braylon Edwards trade for Thomas Jones would be ludicrous, unless it included the Jets 1st rounder in 2010...
or the Jets 2nd rounder in addition to a 6th or 7th in 2010 draft.
Honestly, if the Browns wait, Jones could end up being cut and the Browns could end up with Jones for nothing.
I hope Mangini and Kokinis are smarter than Grossi...

Yeah, I would agree with waiting just to see.....cause no way in HE$% do I trade Braylon for Jones.....besides...Edgerrin James, and Duece McCallister are stil out there, aren't they.....??? IMO, they are the same calibur as Jones....if not better.....and we still keep BE.....I personally think that we are good this year with Lewis...and I have a strange feeling that we will see alot more of Harrison....kinda like the whole Jones and Washington thing....

I hope Grossi is making crap up, because that trade straight up is garbage.
1. RB's are a dime a dozen. 2. #1 WR's aren't 3. Braylon is in the prime age of his career 4. Thomas Jones is at the age where RB's decline 5. WR's have a longer playing career (typically) 6. We are more in need of a WR than a RB
I have no problem with Jones, but his best football, like Jamal, is most likely behind him. Throw in a first or second round pick, then we can start to talk.

Jesus, when will you guys understand that Tony Grossi is paid to write a column. He's paid to speculate. He's not spouting stats. Columnists are allowed some latitude when writing a column.
Besides that he didn't say the trade was going to happen. The word SPECULATED was right there. And seeing as how the Browns are quickly becoming the Cleveland Jets this speculation isn't all that far out of the realm of possibility. Especially, if Mangini does like Jones.
Frankly, after reading these boards for all these years I'd be hard pressed to find any sportswriter in the country that would satisfy you guys. I think it's because you all think you're smarter than any of them. Guess what.....if you were then you'd be the one everyone was taking shots at. Because it's always a case of "shoot the messenger" around here.

Actually, Thomas Jones' name was brought up in the Sanchez trade that brought us Elam, Coleman & Ratliff. Jets said no.
Mangini really likes this guy but I agree with the others that say "no thanks." We already have a RB with almost nothing left in the tank in J-Lew.

That has got to be the biggest pile of garbage article I've ever seen in my life. If that trade happened it would tell me that Mangenius is nothing of the sort. Only an idiot like Grossi would approve of such a deal. Moronic!
And the next head coach is ......

hehehe...ain't that something.
Jets are more than Pondering Releasing Jones...so according to Grossi we will trade our biggest playmaker right now - instead of a 2010 6th round pick
Now that this draft is over and we couldn't move BE for what we wanted (which means we weren't shopping him) we will Use him for his contract year and get our money's worth also increasing his value after we tag him via RFA or Franchise Tenders.

I'm all for trading Edwards for 2010 draft choices. Teams are focusing on the 2009 season and the value of 2010 draft choices are low right now. I'd send Edwards to whoever comes up with a 1st and 2nd round 2010 draft picks. I don't think Mangini and Kokinis are dumb enough to trade for a player they can pick up off the wire.
On a side note, here's to hoping Robiskie and M&M make an impact in 2009!!

Well once we figure out our who our QB is , he will need a # 1 WR....Neither Rookie WR can be exspected to step in and fill that role....That said , IMO Edwards will Not be traded , especially as you say for a player who probably will but available on the Wire....Besides this is the year Edwards Must step up to get paid....The incentive to perform well so that he can get paid $$ should motivate him to play well.....

From what I'm reading it says it could happen....I mean technically it could and it is plausible but plausible doesn't mean probable. It's just speculation. However, It would probably cost them Jones their 1st and 2nd for me to consider it. However, at this point I think we are a much better team with Edwards than without him. We have 2 new WR's who project as good #2's, and we still need a number 1 to keep teams honest.
Hopefully, the Jets cut him or take a 7th rounder for him.
Go Browns!!

Furrey... St. Louis, or Philly, right? IIRC he's not a true #1 wideout. Probably a nice complement, like a #2 or #3, but not a #1.
