I personally think fullback is one of our strongest positions. Vickers played at a Pro-Bowl level before getting hurt and Ali was more than capable in replacing him.

Completely agree. Vickers may be the best blocking fullback in the NFL. It is in no way, shape or form weak.

FYI Butch went deeper into the playoffs then Mangini.

They both lost their only playoff game as HC.

And FB is about the last position I would worry about with this team....

The three things that worry me most are our OLBs, the right side of our offensive line, and our RB situation..

I'm also a bit concerned that the average ago of our 3 starting WRs is likely to be 23...

I stand corrected, my memory fails me in my later years. My Bad.

The fullback position is weak with the potential to be good as I stated. It's far from my biggest worry though.

Fullback is not at all weak. Vickers is a stud.

When Vickers was injured Ali proved more than capable, as was said earlier.

Two-deep is about as good as it will get at FB, I don't know of any team in the league that is deeper that 2 at FB. There's no point.

Yeah. If you need another guy because of injury, you probably already have one on the practice squad, or get an FB off the street if necessary.

I'd say our biggest weakness is pass rush, closely followed by a LB corps that hasn't proved much.
There are a lot of unknowns right now, as well.... like right side of OL.

"The fullback position is weak."

??? What would possibly make you say this?

JMH?

As I get to page 2 see some of your answers.

1. Just what NFL team looks to have Depth at the FB position?

Vickers was an alternate to the Pro-Bowl in 07. As for 08 I can agree with you that there is a drop off with Ali in there...more so because Vickers actually is that good - Ali doesn't suck but he is just OK.

We have Vickers and Ali (although I wonder if Ali sticks).

With those two...I think it's safe to say that we have the best FB depth in the NFL.

jc on ya Phil.

I think our biggest weakness has to be linebacker, especially the outside. The 34 is only successful if you have great LBer play. Look around the league and you'll see all the successful 3-4 defenses have a stud(Merriman in SD, Thomas in NE, Harrison in Pit) and yet who do we have? We have Wimbley who's been a non-factor for 2 seasons now, DQ is solid in the middle, Barton's over the hill and we don't even have a clear starter at SOLB. If Veikune(sp?) doesn't step it up, we are in for a long season.

I've long believed that great pass rush masks very effectively all the other issues a team may have. We've got athletic corners and I think that Francies will be a pretty good guy for us(everyone that I've heard talk about him said he'd be a day 1 pick if it wasn't for the gun charge).

The offense, while not great, can be functional this year. However, the defense, with no pass rush will continue to be a weakness for us and until we create a pass rush, I'm afraid it's going to stay that way.
