How's everyone been? Awesome. I missed you too.
Problem at hand: I have no sound, but it's on the internet only. I thought it was just the browser.... I use Opera, I checked for updates, nothing. I opened IE for the first time in a year and a half... still nothing. I thought I blew the speakers, so I tried iTunes, and it works just fine. I checked the dell Support website, and it was of no help, like always.
I have never had this problem before and I'm getting very frustrated. I need to listen to some stolen music or some fat lady flipping a dirtbike pretty soon or I might go crazy.
Please and thank you for your help slash advice.

Hey OnB - how are ya babe?! How's married life treating you? Not sure how to fix your computer issue, other than I noticed the fact that you were using Opera and IE...so the obvious question begs - what not join the rest of us in the land of utopia that is Firefox?

Hey there pretty boy. How have you been lately? Things are going well for me. New job, new house, I'm even wearing new socks today. It's a good time. This pc problem is the weirdest thing, what good is the internet w/o playlist and youtube???.... I wish there were somebody rich to blame it on, buuut I guess it's off to Best buy for me... But anyway, I used firefox for a while. Then I read about Opera (on this board, actually)... haven't looked back.

So after more research, it seems like I need some "Registry Cleaner" software. Never heard of it, but I can't find anything for less than $30.
My new questions: Can I get a cheaper/free version? Will this actually solve the problem?

Go to www.download.com and look for a free one there. They have all kinds of programs to download, some of which are free, or at least free to trial. Watch for the ones that are free scans, but won't remove stuff unless you buy the full program.

Glary Utilities Well regarded and FREE!! I love it. You can use it's modules separately or the "1 Click Maintanence". If you chose 1 Click, note that you can set what browser related data you wish to delete via "Options". Registry cleaning software can cause problems regardless of whether it is a free or retail app. Glary does provide the ability to restore via Menu > Restore Center > Undo Changes tab. Btw, I know this doesn't help now, but it always a good idea to back up your registry after a clean install and regularly later when the system is running properly (particularly after successful driver and / or software installs / uninstalls).

Yeah I know I should back up more often... Every pc I've ever owned, I've never had a problem until someone else starts using it regularly... coincidence...? Not sure. But it's irritating none the less. But I will try that site out. And if it doesn't work, I'm going to try the old chainsaw on it.

Backing up just the registry is probably not a common task for most, but it can be helpful. I would certainly recommend it before running any registry cleaner. The software from that site has proved to be a very handy tool when helping relatives and friends out with slow machines. The anti-spyware doesn't seem to be much to speak of, but there are several free alternatives elsewhere. I am wondering if your research is pointing to a registry clean or a reg edit? There is a distinct difference and a corruption to a path in the registry that is associated with web browser / audio makes some sense. I don't fool with reg edits because I know my limitations (sort of ) and it would peeve me off to screw something up and leave me with no alternative but a OS reisntall. Hopefully Glary helps and there is no need to worry about any edit(s). Good luck.

Let's hope. Thanks for the help, I'm going in! If nothing else, my pc will boot up in less than 6.5 minutes.
