Browns pacify Rogers, Tackle feeling upbeat By Marla Ridenour Beacon Journal sports writer Browns Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers has patched up his differences with new coach Eric Mangini, Rogers said Monday night. ''We handled it,'' Rogers said before the 29th annual Akron Browns Backers banquet at Tangier restaurant in Akron. ''Just like two grown men do, you speak about it and go to work. We're fine.'' Rogers' issue with Mangini had nothing to do with money. He felt disrespected by the new coach twice, in the training room and at an awards event. Reportedly Rogers was also miffed about a weight mandate he was given. ''We sat down and talked and we worked it out,'' Rogers said, speaking for the first time since the falling-out became public. ''I just feel comfortable being here. I'm happy I've still got a job. This economy doesn't allow you to be as lucky as I am.'' Asked whether he got the wrong first impression of Mangini, Rogers said: ''That's in the past. I'm not really worried about impressions. I'm more interested in seeing what we're going to work like, how we're going to jell tomorrow.'' Notes Mangini did not attend the Akron event, but he and Kokinis sent all 19 Browns rookies to get a taste of the fans' fervor . . . Rogers received the Player of the Year Award from the Cleveland chapter of the Professional Football Writers and cornerback Brandon McDonald accepted the Dino Lucarelli Good Guy Award. Well, it appears that Mangini and Rogers have kissed and made up.....THANK GOD...!!!!!! I haven't heard anything about this in awhile and it was making me a little bit nervous ........ ........

i think a lot of people first thought of the rogers problem as being money related because haynesworth's contract had just come out but a small group elaborated that he simply felt snuffed because he perceived mangini as disrespecting him in the couple of occasions. kudos to that group. we have some bright posters here or at least, occasionally correct posters

I'm happy to read this! I'm also happy at the maturity that was shown. He felt snubbed, they sat down and talked it out like men and everything is fine now.

Wow, whattaya know? The one time it wasn't about money. Kudos to those wise visionaries, whoever they may think they are.

Who says it isn't about money? Because Rogers said it wasn't? What did you really expect him to say "I wanted a bigger contract, so I made up the thing about getting snubbed."
That being said, I'm glad it's over and I hope he performs at the same high level this year.

Hey, it might have been,,, who really knows. Maybe Rogers thought he could hold up the new regime and then they sat down with him and said,, two choices there big fella,, play and get paid what you agreed to,, or sit out and get nothing... Maybe that's what took place..
But Rogers isn't saying that.. in fact, nobody but some on here said that.. me being one of them... so, while I'm not sure it wasn't about money, I have to admit, it doesn't appear so...
Any other questions for me young man?

Was that necessary? I for one think EM should be making up with an all pro nose tackle. I think he was a heavy hitter on our D line last season, and I certainly wanted to see him come back. THe guy gave 100% every snap and played injured a couple of times.

I love Rogers, but you can't say he gave 100% each play. There were plays that he took off. This isn't to rip on Rogers, and he is by far the best player on our defense, but he did take plays off.

I'll admit that I didn't watch each and every play he was in on,, but the ones I saw (and there were plenty of them) I don't remember thinking he took any plays off... Not saying he didn't, I just didn't see them.....

Don't get me wrong, most plays he gave it his all, but there were times where he just sat there and didn't even try to penetrate or make a play.

there are a lot of times when these guys are asked to hold their ground instead of attacking. Romeo liked to zone and he would often simply use his DL to play patty cake with the opposing offensive line. They were just there to prevent QB from running and to protect against the draw.

I didn't watch him every single play, but I did watch him often, as he was fun to watch. I didn't remember seeing him take plays off.
I also know that sometimes in the 3-4 they hold their ground and don't penetrate- not sure if that's what you're referring to.
And to those looking at the name of the article, I agree. I hate the word "pacify." I always think of a baby and a pacifier. Like it's degrading.

I think Rogers is realizing that in Ryan's defense he can be a star. I know he already is, but with an attacking style like Ryan's, and some healthy players next to him, Rogers is going to be a shoe in for another pro bowl.
For those who bashed Mangini about this situation, I think you have to read what Rogers said about sitting and talking it out like men. I believe that is what Mangini got across to him, bring your greivences to him not the press and things will get worked out.

He was our defense last year, so I'm more than willing to forgive him for taking a few plays off (which, yes, he did).

Agreed. I'm referring to plays in which he allowed himself to get driven off of the ball by a single player.

I'm pretty sure he was already the star of the Browns Defense. But I get your point...
