I actually just got excused from jury duty on Monday. I'm leaving for Air Force Basic Training a week from Tuesday.
There's a funny story about getting my summons though. While my fiance's mom was out of town about a month ago, she got a summons in the mail. My fiance was the one that opened it up. When she told me her mom got called for jury duty, I laughed and said " Haha you're mom got called for jury duty!!!" Well, I got home late that night and lo and behold what was sitting on my dresser? A letter from the local county circuit court saying I had jury duty as well. Irony sucks!!!
Her mom ended up getting out of it until July because she homeschools her two youngest children.
Once you're in the jury pool here, you have to call the jury line the night before you're supposed to report to find out if they need jurors the next day. The judge here seemed pretty lenient, he told us that if you are on vacation when one of the scheduled days is, all you have to do is call the county clerks office and let them know. Of course, the county I live in is a pretty rural county in East TN. They also told us that last session they didn't even have to have the jury pool report the entire time.
