I think we have seen the end of the FA Olineman spending splurge by Phil. I wont be surprised if we go after the dude from the Chargers but i doubt we are going to get in a bidding war over a guy like Steinbach. We are going the draft route for better or worse.
Remember 5 year plan.
2 down.... (and I mean really down)
3 to go.

Then tell me why the Bengals employee what's reported to be only one full-time scout and several part-timers when the rest of the teams in the league have at least half-a-dozen full time scouts?
I remember when Warren Sapp was a free agent and visited Cincy. He signed with Oakland and blasted the Bengals for using him as leverage against someone else, then went on to tell everyone who'd listen just how cheap the Bengals are in reputation.
Yes, the Bengals have locked up important talent, but that doesn't make them not cheap. Who was the last big free agent they signed..........

No different than most of you. However, how are the Bengals cheap? In the past, the Bengals were a joke...they didn't have NFL talent. When guys like Corey Dillon and Willie Anderson were free agents though, did they leave in free agency? Nope, Mike Brown paid to keep them around. Mike Brown is a loyal man (overly loyal sometimes...see Willie Anderson's contract extension last summer ) but he does pay to keep his own

No offense, but I'd develop our own picks than overpaying for guys in free agency. Free Agency is a crapshoot and it's NOT the way to build an organization.

If the Browns continue to draft well (starting with last years draft...2005 not so much) then look for the "cheap" tag to be labeled on them for locking up their own guys rather than making splashy F.A. signings.

You didn't take the Troll-bait so I'll say good job on being a semi-good sport, hehe.
However, the Bengals are known for being cheap. There are two franchises in the league that are infamous in that regard, and the Bengals are one of'em. I recall a year or two ago there was a big hullabaloo regarding their stadium that's paid for by the citizens. I can't recall exactly what it was, but it was pretty shameful.

Ahh Toad, even up here in Cleveland there's was a media flap from Channel 19 here that Randy Lerner was ripping off the public,,,, (oddly enough,it was started by teh same station (Ch 19) that Randy dumped as the team flagship TV station over thier coverage of his neices death)
But if politics are involved, sooner or later, someone is going to throw stuff around and blow it out of whack..
Politics,,,, they suck!

Overtoad, I live all around Browns fans...there are quite a few Bengals fans around me too but I'd say the majority are Browns fans. I'm become good at dealing with them and I enjoy talking football with them. We're all homers in our own regard. While you'll say the Bengals are cheap, I'll say that they are smart. That's just me being a homer. I enjoy your board and gain alot of information/knowledge from your members. As for the stadium, I'm really not knowlegdable on the deal with the county. I need to read more before I give you an opinion.

I think Diam and Prophet are right. The Bengals will make a strong attempt to keep Steinbach.
On another note..........I can't believe I have to explain this. I fully realize that whoever signs Steinbach will overpay, but what I'm saying is that the Browns will have to seriously overpay.
If all things are equal......why would Steinbach want to come here? I'll use the Raiders and the Lions as examples. Would you rather sign w/Chicago or Detroit if the money was similar? Would you sign w/Oakland or San Diego if the money was similar. The Browns are very similar to Detroit and Oakland. Losing franchises that are unstable. The Browns would have to offer quite a bit more money if they are to sign him, and if they do that, it will lead to further problems. The franchise's instability is not a good thing.

Vers...Vers...Vers...
Can u name ONE FA in even the last 7 years that dissed us for any other team???
I can't...And Edwards didn't diss us last year...He stayed in Detroit via the recco of his Ole' Man...
New to the league in 1999 or not...CLEVELAND BROWNS holds alot of sting...The history of this City and football team goes way beyond what many of us even believe...And the owners ain't cheap either...
If we took a poll I'd bet a very very VERY high percentage of ALL NFL players would love to play in Cleveland if asked...
This is where u pi ss me off...U have it SET in your head that Lerner sux...Savage sux...We're gonna suck on the field...Do u do this in a reverse psychology kinda way???...Lower my expectations so I'm surprised if we are doing good things and not surprised if we don't???...
That's a PI SS POOR way to carry yourself thru life big boy...You're gonna miss the boat and won't enjoy the ride as we GET GOOD...
Go Browns!!!

Those who are saying that need to take a long look at the orginization he's currently playing for, yes their stable, but there all in jail, on probation, getting arrested, smoking pot....i'm sure they have thier good guys and maybe Stienbach is one of them, but maybe he wants out of this atmosphere, yes money is # 1.
Steinbach is one of them alright....one of the 9 arrests. Steinbach is a good olinemen but not a great one. He gives up on his blocks (see Carson's knee) and he is not a road grader for the running game. He is a good pulling guard and can play tackle or center in a pinch. Would I like to see him resigned, yes but there are greater needs on the bengals than him such as defense. preferably AD.

Stienbach was arrested for DUI on a boat or open container while driving a water craft, Not that I think it's ok to do this, I fish Bass tournaments during the weekends in the summer, meaning I'm on the water atleast 1-2 night or days a weekend, A patrol officer if he wanted to could go around the lake every night of the week and arrest 5-10 people every night, for open container or operating a water craft under the influence, so to me it's something he shouldnt do but compared to some of the other arrests it dosent compare.
