That darn layoff was the worst thing that ever happened to this team. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news;_ylt=...p&type=lgnsGlad to see Troy showed who the better quarterback was.

That layoff should have then effected Florida too. No excuses, we didn't step up in that game and Florida did.

Troy might have outplayed Leak but he was far from impressive. He is lucky there are no more college games or he might end up in Arena football. Maybe he;ll do something at the combine and get back in the 1st day. The reason he throws high is he's TO SHORT.

We had two months off, they had 1 month off. That is huge in football time.
Do you really think that the team that showed up in Arizona was the same one that beat up on Michigan? In addition, they lost to a team that almost lost to Vanderbilit, and South Carolina. The only reason for such a poor showing is the layoff.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.
Troy Smith did not outplay Leak. The North beat the South on a rainy soggy turf. No QB looked real good.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

Would you say, in reality, that during the Senior Bowl, Troy Smith outplayed Chris Leak?

"Almost" lost???? We almost got beat by Michigan, let's not forget that had there been more time in that game, Michigan would have won the game. Also, didn't we almost get beat by Illinois? Almost doesn't count and if it did, we certainly wouldn't have been playing in the national championship in 2002.
I don't think the difference between our lay-off and their lay-off was any higher than our lay-off and Miami's in 2002. Isn't that correct?
So what was the difference? Not the extra week because that is relatively the same for both teams.
The difference is that we didn't show up.

Glad to see Troy showed who the better quarterback was.
You are talking about 51 days as opposed to 37 days. Give me a break, that doesn't make up a 27 point difference (which could have been 34 if Florida wanted to score again towards the end of the game).
Congrats to Troy Smith for outplaying Chris Leak in a game that doesn't mean anything. I suppose 5 for 15 is something to brag about as long as its better than the quarterback that spanked you in the National Championship game

You might wanna adjust that.
When did I say "almost" about anything?
The only possible explanation for such disparity between the two teams is that one team had a two month layoff and the other team had a one month layoff. Two months off- think about it. Our offense was out of sync, and our defensive was not nearly as instinctive as it was mid season. Regardless, The way Troy Smith played during the Senior Bowl versus the way Chris Leak played should tell you a lot.

Ok, Ohio State didn't have 2 months off. A little over a month and a half is more like it. And Florida, a little over a month. There was only 14 days difference. The fact is, Florida is the better team. On a neutral field, Florida beats Ohio State 9 times out of 10. Florida is too fast for Ohio State, and the extra 14 days would not have changed that.
I'm not even a Florida fan, and I'm even getting tired of the excuses by all these delusional Ohio State fans. You got beat by the better team! It was almost a month ago, please.. admit that the better team won the game, and look forward to next year.

granted I only saw a very small portion of the Senior Bowl, but if Leak was outplayed by Smith, then Leak had to have done nothing but throw INT's because Troy Smith looked like crap.

I saw what you saw. Smith was NOT impressive. The numbers don't lie... Smith was 5 of 15 passing. 33% completion rate, that is not good. 52 yards and one touchdown. I'm sorry, that is far from impressive, its called barely average. Plus smith had more attempts/chances than any other qb. Leak on the other hand was 5 of 9 23 yards. Neither performed well, but if you look at completion percentage, Leak destroyed smith. http://www.seniorbowl.com/2007/2007seniorbowlstats.htm

It was 51 to 37 versus 44 to 30 in 2002. Thus the relative difference is the same.
Flat out, we didn't show up. Another poster said that we'd lose 9 or 10 to them and I really don't think that is the case. We just didn't show up, we played poorly and hadn't played that poorly probably all year.

5 of 15 for 50 some yards? Not much to gloat about.

"In his first two series, Smith completed four of 13 passes for 45 yards, and his best play may have come when he managed to buy time with his feet on a fourth-and-seven from the South’s 37-yard line. Avoiding the oncoming pressure, Smith bounced forward, then back and to his left before finding Leonard on the sideline. The Rutgers back hauled in the pass and rumbled for 13 yards and a first down. The North would ultimately settle for a Mason Crosby field goal on the drive." https://www.dawgtalkers.net/showflat.php?...;gonew=1#UNREADAnd what was the excuse for the Senior Bowl performance? Too long of a layoff? His las two games have shown us a lot. Excuses be damned. And it will most likely show on draft day.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Yep...that is burning it up.
Sounds like some are in denial if you ask me.
The fact of the matter is Smith won't be selected very high and OSU got the snot knocked out of them in the championsip game.

I kept reading the thread and you keep on with this stuff....lol.
Here is one...maybe the Gators were way better then the Buckeyes. The game was 41-14......and we sat on the ball the entire 2nd half....probably could have posted 50-60 points had we kept up with the origional gameplan.
Meyer showed some class as he could have punked the Bucks even worse than he did.

Ya Muni, you can't argue 41-14 was a layoff issue.
35-28 you could, not 41-14

To most all of you Buck fans.
After the game, I didn't run around smack talking and stuff like that.....just a little good natured stuff here and there with some friends.....but now it is a month later and this guy is running around talking crap, so please understand my comments aren't directed at you, but if this guy actually wants to talk....so be it....so will I.

Peen,to tell you the truth, having THAT MUCH time to prepare for ONE TEAM? It should have made them BETTER prepared for that game if anything IMO. I'm a Buckeye fan. But my hat goes off to the Gators. They were simply the better team. Saying that having almost two months to prepare to face a single opnent and that game being "THE most important game of your life" is an excuse to play bad? If anything,it's more than enough to give ample reason to believe that OSU should have been fully prepared for your boys. You'll get no excuses from me on that.

Exactly. This isn't like saying "Well USC was the better team than Texas when they won the National Championship" I've heard alot of people saying that around here trying to say the layoff is why Ohio State lost. The fact is, in that USC/Texas game, the game was close, so you could argue that maybe if the game was played earlier, USC would have won. OSU lost 41-14, I think that argument went out the window by halftime lol.

HUH? If there was more time in that game OSU would have taken a couple more knees to end it.
Don't forget that Michigan could have stopped the run with their "vaunted run defense" to get the ball back. But on three straight runs they gave up a first down. Game over.
Now as for Florida vs. OSU, well OSU just got beat in every factor of the game. No excuses. It makes no difference what Troy Smith and Chris Leak did in the senior bowl.

While I don't disagree with your statement, I will say this.....
You miss Steve Spurrier in Florida don't you He NEVER would have hesitated to run the score up in that situation.

I like coach Spurrier. I have to admit I come from the school that teaches you should try to score every time you have the ball until you get to 3 min left in the 4th qtr and you are up by 30 or more.. If they can't stop you, that's their problem. For the record......coach Meyer looks like he is going to work out pretty good.

I don't care if you aren't a florida fan or a osu fan.....but that statement is completely WRONG....the team that played that game was not the same team...i don't know why we played the way we did.....i have no excuses.....all i know is that Florida came out and outplayed us in that game....it has nothing to do with speed for sure....our D isn't exactly big fat asses who can't run.....our LBs r all fast....so r D backs...just felt like we got screwed in the trenches...couldn't stop the run when we needed to.....
ah whats the point of talking about this crap......it was hands down the worst game i've EVER watched the bucks play.....hell we haven't given up 40+ points since 99....that alone says everything

yah and if we didn't fumble the ball twice we would have won by 2 TDs....whats your point? i don't care if there were 4 more quarters that day...we would have came out on top...and that is not me being bias...their D could NOT stop us...we had some good stops in the game every now n then...

I like that......I might use it sometime.
As to Spurrier....who knows???
At any rate, he is a gamecock(couldn't type it without the game included...was censored ) so it doesn't matter anymore......but I still like him.

Ahhhh now that's not true. It applies to EVERY team's fans. I watched Michigan fans say woulda, coulda, shoulda for the last 3 years.
"If we would have had more time" -2006
"Gonzales should have been flagged for going out of bounds" - 2005
"If we could have stopped Ginn on the punt returns" - 2004
Florida fans were saying it about their loss to Auburn. They also said it when Tommy Fraizer was running all over them in the 1995 Fiesta bowl 62-24. They know how it feels.
Hey, Buckeye fans are not immune, we said that same crap during Michigan's reign of terror in the 90's. Point is, Every fan does that.
The only reason you think that OSU fans are the only ones is because there are more of them on this board, (and you're a Michigan fan).

Thats cuz our O blew it....O line to be more specific.....did you look at the time of possesion? the D lived on the feild in that game....they keept throwing short passes and screens it was annoying yet effective.....
Yes i watched the same game....and i believe if our O played half as decent as they have this year they would have at at least stayed in the game....i don't know if it would have been enough to win....but it would not have been this ugly...
Mind you i'm not taking anything away from the gators.....they deserved the win...they kicked our ass....fair and square...i just don't think we were as bad of a team as we looked in that game.....
