i could be wrong, but didn't a good portion of the 9/11 terrorists come into this country legally, with paperwork?

Even if they do have a fence all the way across the border it's still a joke unless you either have armed guards every 100 yards or so or automatic motion detecting weapons that shoot at anything that comes within 10 feet of the fence.

Not to burst your bubble with the "New Regime" comment, but this whole discussion of passports to go in and out of Canada started several years ago. We were told that it was coming when we would travel up to Windsor to gamble.

It's being enacted by this regime, but it's not anything NEW from this regime..

Like I had said earler, the fence idea is a HUGE waste of time and money---not to mention the problems that it poses for migratory species (especially those that rely on following water which is a VERY important resource for wildlife in the SW).

We would be much better off sorting out the problems in Mexico and central America; most notably poverty and violence--if we ever want to find the answer to the immigration problem. I believe that that starts with ending the drug war and legitimizing and regulating the drug trade.

No, I haven't---but logic suggests that the reason many people immigrate north of the border has to do with hope for a better life, better opportunity, less danger. With a lot of the problems in Mexico and central America coming from government corruption and the drug war---these things need to be fixed before we ever fix the immigration problem.

Just building a fence, no matter how well guarded, is a waste of time.

Also, from a geographical standpoint, isn't "down here" Columbia, and hence, South America. Isn't this thread dealing particularly with Mexico and other central American countries.

the only things I know about Columbia is that they make lots of coke and Shakira is really really hot.

Colombia (along with Ecuador ) produce a large portion of the fresh flower you by in North America and are second or third in coffee .. And lets not forget Banana's .. And of course Killer Leather

She might be "average" looking, but she has that "it" factor goin' on.

Not going to get into a pissing contest with you my young friend ... But I have spent a bunch of years " Down here " in Latin America .. Mexico / Central America & SA .. When you talk about logic ; is that North American Logic , or Latino logic ?? Huge difference ..


We can't handle the Corruption and Poverty in our own Country ( USA ) and you want to tackle an almost impossible task here in Latin America ???

When discussing drugs you can't leave Country's like Colombia and Peru out ...

Every time one of my friends come down to visit ( from the States ) ; they always end up walking into a pole or tripping over their own feet looking at the women here in Colombia ..

Agreed about Shakira... she is talented AND intelligent. Classy young lady. She can shake it , too.

I am not saying the US needs to go down there and start trying to make changes to the governments of these Central American nation.

I am saying that we need to change our policies in an effort to stop the immigration problem.

IMO, the drug war has turned many regions of south and central America into a war zone. It has contributed to corruption problems within government, and saddled many nations south of the border with immense poverty.

These forces contribute to the immigration problem.

If we stopped the drug war and legitimized the drug trade, then we give many of these nations very profitable and legitimate cash crops, we end the paramilitary style war between authorities and cartels while also creating a way that drugs can bring profits into the regions without the necessity of violence.

Until we end the drug war, immigration will continue to grow b/c more and more people will be fleeing the violence, corruption, and poverty.

Ok , that's a little more descriptive ! .. I see where you are going with this .. Tough one to try and solve ... You are talking about trying to change hundreds of years of a Class base ( society ) and corruption.. I mean even the Good Guys are corrupt down here .. ( Kinda like DC in the States , lol )

...The American tax payer is already on the hook for " Plan Colombia "... Millions and millions and millions of Your dollars .. ( check it out )
