As I mentioned a few months ago, I am joining the Air Force. I ship out for Basic Training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio on Tuesday. I have found out that I will be working in Bomber Avionics (which means I will be working on the flight systems of the bombers).

I will be at Lackland for 8.5 weeks of Hell, I mean Basic , then another 7 weeks for part of my Tech School. After that I will be sent to Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX for at least another 10 weeks, possibly 18 weeks, for the rest of Tech School.

Just figure I'd give an update.

Have fun 214..... truly enjoy it.

You don't realize it now, but you're heading off to start a series of experiences you will remember for the rest of your life.... take it all in.

And don't sweat Basic, lol (especially Air Force Basic, heh). It's just a few weeks of conditioning, physical & mental. They need to retrain your weak civilian ways

1) Thanks and God Bless

2) Seriously, Thanks dude - you're about to become part of something special

3) It's Airforce Boot Camp - I think you might find it easier than you expect but that's coming from someone who spent 17 weeks at Paris Island in summer

4) You probably don't know when you'll be back this fall but if it's during football season PM me. I sell extra Browns tickets and if they haven't sold I'm always happy to give them away to active duty servicemen.

I appreciate it from everybody, but I'm not the one to be thanking. If it wasn't for the men and women that have served in the past and those currently serving, I wouldn't be able to. So, if you're going to thank anybody, thank them.

Yo Dawg... I am at Seymour Johnson AFB in NC... Hit me up once you get settled but I think by the time you are out of tech school, I will be shipped off to Afghanistan... Avionics is a big field and you may end up working on our Strike Eagles here...

Keep your head up and do your best to silently do what your TI says, I made it through 5 weeks before the TI knew who I was.

You WILL have moments when you will think about quiting, IT IS NORMAL to have them but I promise you dawg the ass pain is temporary and the reward is forever! Hang in there and be safe!

Oh yeah,....

Then if you're really lucky, get yourself commissioned so you can go to OCS at Quantico,...

All kidding aside, I wouldn't trade those years for anything.

Head up, chin down, mouth shut.

Good luck, Dawg.

Well guys it's over for me. I made it without any troubles. It was tough in the beginning but after the first couple weeks it was pretty easy to coast through. Don't get it twisted it was stil tough. I just kept my head down my mouth shut and my nose clean. I dropped 17 pou ds while I was there.

Shootig the M-16 was a unique experience, especially since I hadnt shot anything other than airsoft and bb/pellet guns. We also shot the 9mm.

Dude, Great decision to join the Air Force. - When I was 18, I was looking into either the Air Force, or the Marine Corps. - One extreme or the other. For some crazy reason, I joined the Marines. Boot camp was 13 weeks long, and it was in nasty Parris Island, SC. - Everybody dreads boot camp, but after my enlistment was all said and done, I realized that boot camp was the best part of my enlistment. You will make friends and bonds with people from all over the country. By the end, whomever is in charge of training you (Drill Instructor) will become one of the biggest father figures to you for the rest of your life. - You may not be around them after boot camp, but your drill instructors are always going to be with you. - No Joke dude. Have fun, congrats on joining the absolute greatest branch you can join.

Congrats Dawg! One of the best memories of my life so far was my days at basic training. I maybe one of the few that enjoyed it.

I also found out that my tech school will be longer than I thought. I have 17 weeks at Keesler (3 before my classes even start) and then another 11 to 16 at Sheppard.
