How many of DQ's down field tackles were because he was running guys down that ran away from him? Or because Andra Davis did what he usually did, which was completely overrun a play?
I think DQ has some limitations, and I'm not necessarily on the "pro bowl" bandwagon, but I'm not sure I'd paint him as bad a player as some of you are.

I think our coaches know more about football than we do...at least I truly hope they do.
and D'Qwell was one of the few guys Mangini singled out as a player that stuck out on film...he had no real reason to do that other than he believed it.
he hasn't been a pro-bowler...but I'm definitely glad he's on our team.

Just FYI since I found it on ESPN
2008 - 154 Total Tackles - 2 Tackles For Loss 2007 - 101 Total Tackles - 3 Tackles For Loss 2006 - 93 Total Tackles - 2 Tackles For Loss
By comparison Andra Davis had 6 last year with 36 in his career.
That's pathetic.
If there was chart on tackles within 3 yards of the LOS he'd be low on that too. The guy gets handled too easily physically by Centers and Guards. He's a chase and tackle backer that has to play in the phone booth in a 34. He's simply not good at it.
Now if he was a WILL in a 43 he'd have a lot more freedom to move and could be a very good NFL player. I'm sure other teams see this too and I'd love to trade him for a ransom to a 43 team.
I know I voice things that sometimes go against the grain..but I have complained about DQ myself at times.. He's not a force at his position...he makes very few plays at or behind the LOS..he is more of a pursuit type..now the Xfactor is... for him to be effective the guys in front and beside him have to occupy the blockers and take out things on their side.. As long as Wimbley gets sealed off and can't string or contain the outside DQ will continue to make plays downfield..
Since AD is gone and maybe a more instinctive backer is next to him perhaps I won't be seeing him making plays on the strongside instead of Barton.. but if anyone thinks he's a force..I don't see that.. Shaun Rodgers is a force..but none of our backers have been. However that being said DQ isn't the biggest issue with the linebacker unit.. I'd say Wimbley is more of a liability than he is.

Wimbley is somewhat of a liability, but at the same time.. You have to give him a break b/c he is going up against teams best offensive lineman at the LT spot.
If he can get better at the run.. it would help though.. he gets taken out of plays sometimes.. but one thing I do like.. McDonald has his back.. He's not afraid to tackle the RB at ALL!!

I have to give him a break because he's going up against the opponents LT???
What the??
...
C'on man ...dude is not progressing ...plain and simple..dude has one move..he's won't get much stronger..that was one weakness he has..scouting reports said he was never a force against the run because he just wasn't strong enough..and I doubt he ever will be.

How strong can a LB be though? Wimbley is no wimp. He just needs to work on technique and find some more moves... Otherwise.. You are correct.. He won't progress.

Wimbley is one of,if not the worse,OLB against the run in the entire NFL,no question about it .It maybe technique, lack of strength, poor coaching,or all of them.As long as he is on the field, this willnot be a good D against the run.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

DQ is in the same mold as Donnie Edwards in the 3-4.
His job is to make tackles at or near the LOS and to cover backs out of the backfield.
He rarely blitzes, at 230 he is just too light.
That does not make him a bad football player, it means that he has a specific role to fill.
Ideally the 3-4 ILB is about 255. If they can cover a back and blitz, then you have an ideal situation.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

If true, the only thing I don't like about that is the advantage in todays 3/4 is supposed to be that you can disguise what you are doing and who is blitzing.
If he's to light to blitz, the opposing QB would always know what Jackson should be doing for the upcoming play.
"He who buys what he does not need steals from himself."

I don't think D'Qwell is too light to blitz...
If that is the case, Safeties and Corners are too light to blitz...
D'Qwell can blitz.. He was just never asked too..

Williams said Rogers’ trip to the Pro Bowl is “a motivator to everybody around him.” To do what?
“I have a goal I set for myself,” he said, “but I keep it to myself.”
HMMMMM,.....I wonder what that could be??????

It could be like a certain number of sacks too. Pro Bowl is ultimately what he wants though I'm sure.
