I'm trying to tell you there is a reason to be more than just a fan of Cleveland sports.
Quote:
If you and others do not understand then all I have to say is enjoy the feel of not quite getting there.
These two quotes highlight a lack of understanding of how people become fans to begin with. Sometimes it's not a choice. It's watching your father or your grandfather root on their teams at an early age and having them pass on that passion on to you. It's being from someplace and taking pride in where you're from. This type of thing starts at an early age ... it's something that is passed down from generation to generation ... especially in a city like Cleveland where sports rule all.
And you are going to hold that against people? A self-proclaimed Browns fan? I'm not questioning why you are a Lakers fan ... I'm questioning why you would hold something against someone who roots for a team because that's probably all they've ever known.
Still a low blow. If you've been following the Lakers for 40+ years, then you are too old to be wielding that stick on a message board. I guess some people just never grow up.

That guy has been a troll for years. He posts just to get you guys riled up. I doubt he's even a Browns fan. He sounds a lot like Steelers fans.

i'd rather watch 3 cleveland teams that haven't won anything in my lifetime than jump on some other team's bandwagon, just doesn't feel right.
rishuz is dead on right. you don't have a choice in this.
that's why i love these idiot cleveland fans any time one of the team loses or doesn't make the playoffs or simply just doesn't win the whole thing
"i'm giving up cleveland sports"
"i'm not a browns fan anymore"
sure thing dude. because the day one of those teams wins it all, you won't be celebrating? yeah, right.
i don't play the woe is me card, i don't kill myself after a loss.
this last loss with the cavs hurt, but i was over it in a day.
maybe it's because i still play sports and i have that mentality and don't dwell on things, but i think it's the way to go.
i don't believe in curses or jinxes. it is what it is.
the cleveland fans that don't do that, that don't play the curse card or cry in their beer, or feel sorry for themselves, are the toughest group of sports fans in the world, bar none.

Has anyone ever seen worse officiating in any sport at any level than in the NBA?
It goes both ways ... bad calls on both teams ... it's disgusting.

i've been scratching my head alot this year especially in the playoffs over the officiating. i dont wanna come off as a conspiracy nut but if it came out that nba playoff games had outside influences on the outcomes i would not be surprised one bit. heck, ever since the tim donaghy thing when theres a game where one team shoots 50 free throws and the other team shoots 10 i cant help but wonder if its just that one team is actually fouling that much more or if thats them making an effort to subtly affect the outcome of the game.
oh, and how is it dwight howard is being allowed to play rugby when everyone else is playing basketball? he flings his elbows so wildly that he even broke his own teammates sinus cavity for gods sake!

as a cavs fan, i can't really complain about officiating, there were definitely calls that didn't go our way, but i think most of us cavs fans know why we aren't still playing, and it has nothing to do with the whistle blowers...
as far as some of the other series, there has been stuff, but guys and gals, the nba is by far the hardest sport to officiate. i tip my cap to those folks because it's tough.
i don't think i have seen anything to the level of the '06 finals when they called a foul on you if you even looked at dwyane wade funny....
it's been a good playoff season. the lakers are 2-1 and rightfully so.
i can't believe the magic shot like they did (62%?) and still barely won.

Off topic and I really didn't want to start a seperate thread with the article but did anyone see the writeup in the New York Times?
The story is titled "Mike Brown out, Pat Riley in as Cavaliers coach."
They are speculating/ claiming that there is "in fighting" in the Cavs organization about how badly Brown got outcoached by Stan Van Gundy and went on to say that a Riley hiring would assure Lebron staying in Cleveland...yada, yada, yada...

i don't buy that...
mike brown brings stability. i don't think he was outcoached. seemed like he did everything.
and pat riley? the guy will bolt the minute something goes wrong? haven't these people been watching what's happened in miami?

I'm not a fan of bringing in Riley just due to the fact that it's risky in Lebron's walk year unless Lebron has said he specifically wants Riley.
We'll have to agree to disagree on Brown being outcoached. He got punked, IMO.

i thought he did everything he could, he tried every matchup possible. bottom line? we don't have a center who can handle dwight howard, therefore the double teams, therefore the wide open shooters. not to mention our backcourt is undersized.
i read yesterday the cavs were 26th in the league in points in the paint. outside of lebron, we have nothing in terms of scoring down low.
lakers, magic are top 5 or 6 i believe.
i don't think brown had a great series. and who knows, if we don't blow that lead in game 1, which was more on the players than anything else, we may still win that series, but the fact remains is that our flaws and weak spots were exposed.

colin cowherd thinks this is all a ploy, and he made some good points...
first of all, if this truly came from 2 sources... that means it's true that it was said, not true that it is true, but true that someone said it.
he thinks this is the cavs basically getting attention to the team, and to lebron during the finals... he thinks it's a good idea.

On to the game. I want to congratulate Orlando on the win in game three. But I'm pretty sure they will not shoot 63% two games in a row. After tonight the best team in the NBA should be up 3 games to 1.
Go Lakers!

Didnt watch the game, just the highlights. Dwight howard missed two free throws with the Magic up 3 with 10 seconds to go. The Magic let that one get away.

1 of those 2 free throws seals the game.
If you can't hit free throws to win it, you don't deserve to win it.
Orlando has been their own worst enemy this series.

It was so disrespectful for Gasol to be calling for the ball and dunk it at the end of the game when you know the game is over. However Pietrus foul was cheap and unecessary

not sure if you know or not, but you can check odds through yahoo sports. just go to the sports page, pick the sport u want to look at on that top line just under the yahoo sports logo, once you get to the nba page, or whatever sport you want, click odds and it will give you the number from about 5 or 6 books.
across the board it's magic -3

To address the troll stuff, I have been on this sight for many years. I really don't care what I am called but when I was young the big word that was used for people you didn't like was Queer. Now days if you use that word it is politically incorrect. So how I was raised is wrong but if I choose to be a fan of another team that people on here don't agree with it is okay to call me names.
On to the real question at hand, I was born in 1958. The Lakers moved to LA in 1960 there 1st championship in LA was in 1972 but in the years prior to that they made 8 final appearances in the 60's. In 1968 they aquired Wilt Chamberlain. As a youth I have always been tall and became very interested in watching how the big men played the game.
As far as being a Cavaliers Fan, the Cavs were not formed until 1970. At that point I was already sold on the dominence of the Lakers big man. By the 75, 76 season when the Cavs had their 1st winning season, the Lakers and Celtics had been the dominant team for more than a decade.
As far as being a Browns fan, in 1964 at the age of 6 the Browns won their 1st NFL Championship that I can recall with a running back named Jim Brown. They went ahead and had championship appearance in 68 & 69 by then I was sold.
As far as baseball teams go I have not been a huge fan for years but I thoroughly enjoyed, and if I called myself a baseball fan the Cincinnati Reds definately caught my heart as the Big Red Machine.
Hopefully this helps you understand and I mean no harm to other fans of other sports or other teams but this comes from the time I was raised.
Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!

That sums up everything we needed to know, thanks.
Going by that logic a majority of us shouldn't have became Browns fans.

Don't know how you got the troll title. You've been on this board for quite a while. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that you aren't the only Browns/Lakers fan. I'm sure there are a few of us around here. The problem with me is that I love football, and like basketball. So if they Lakers win, it is great, if they lose, then, oh well, tomorrows another day. When the Browns lose however, that ruins that day, and the next, and sometimes the day after that. The fall has not been a happy time for me for a while.

That makes your statement irrelevant.

That is good you have a right to be any kind of fan you want to be. Don't let anyone tell you what you like and what you don't because being a fan of any team is as private as your voting rights!

I think what bothers some people is that that kind of healthy respect for other teams and their fans is not a two-way street. So then, their defense is/are the barbs and insults. When we realize how unimportant being a fan is in the big picture, then it clears up a little. As mentioned above, there are many "strange" combinations,....I know in the past I have been enamored with other cities' teams. Heck, I even pulled for the Pirates in '79. Always liked the Dodgers organization and the Big Red Machine. Been/was a good Lakers fan through the days of Jabbar and Magic. But I don't really care if they win this one. Orlando deserved to be there but their real game obviously does not match up well and I hope they lose. I highly doubt voting rights are actually private though, but I know what you mean. These politicians know right down to your house number how you voted on what,....

he's going directly off that you posted how you cheered for the Browns and the Lakers as a child when both were in and/or winning championships.
the thing is, noone knows you wouldn't be a Browns fan if they happened to be a bad team at the time...it just worked out for you well.
as far as the Lakers...if you started to cheer for them before the Cavs were even around, I don't see how anyone could give you grief...if your local town has no team, you're free to pick whoever you want and the odds are better at picking one of the more fun teams to watch (i.e. winning teams). The fact that you are still loyal to them and the Browns (despite the losing) should be enough.

Well only a few minutes till game 5. This will be a fun game to watch, except I have a feeling the Magic will win tonight because it is do or die time for them and it will be the last home game for them this season. Saying that the Lakers will also know that if they don't pull this game out they will be going home to wrap this title up in the Staples Center. I stiil think the Lakers take this in 6 and there will be a big party in L.A. and my house! GO LAKERS
