Raiders Add Charlie Frye Posted: Jun 08, 2009 10:21 PM Updated: Jun 09, 2009 5:01 AM Oakland Has Signed Charlie Frye Oakland - The Oakland Raiders have signed former Browns quarterback Charlie Frye. Frye is the sixth quarterback on the Raiders roster. Frye was a fourth round draft pick out of Akron by the Browns in 2005. Frye was traded to Seattle by the Browns in 2007 after a dismal start against the Steelers. link

Well, he was a third round pick, not a fourth.
Not to be a pessimist, but I think Charlie's next stop is the Canton Legends.
Much respect to ya, even if you wish me the opposite...

good for him....hope he can cash NFL checks for another couple years.
don't get me wrong, i'm glad he's not here....but he always seemed like a good guy off the field and I wish him the best at setting himself up for the future.

That doesn't sound good. Heck, even if he was 1 of 4 I wouldn't look for a place to live in Oakland if I were Charlie. Oh well, good luck to him.

i'll take $375K to stand on the sidelines and carry a clipboard...I'll even be the team's scout QB (as long as I get the red, no-hit jersey).

I'd be the mascot for $375K. Heck, I'd be a cheerleader for $75K (only 10 days of work). And I'd wear the same outfit too.

With JaMarcus Russell and Jeff Garcia there, you can't like Chuck's chances to being anything more than 3rd string (if he's lucky). That's a shame for him.

everything i read says that it's a comp between frye, gradkowski (yea, pulling previous browns qbs is the plan for the raiders apparently), and walter (their previous 3rd rounder in last year of his contract) for the 3rd qb spot. they're doing everything they can to make walter expendable because his attitude hasn't been great and he missed a lot of the voluntary time.
if frye doesn't win this, he'll probably be done.

Be thankful he has an offer for a job, since he doesn't look like an NFL QB.

Frye's biggest problem was somewhat north of his shoulders .......
His arm was OK. His head and reactions weren't.

Someone posted earlier he was a THIRD round pick. That and if he can still prove he deserves to play anywhere, Oakland would be the place. They take everyone and anyone.

He made a mockery of the QB position.
He played like Vick without the arm OR the legs...but just as bad of a head.

Whenever I think of Frye I'm reminded of that quote from 'Rudy' about wishing one could put his heart in others' bodies.
He had a lot of heart....and that's about it.

I still remember him for having no leadership skills and always sulking.

way off. he had plenty of leadership and never sulked around. he walked funny but never sulked. all the players respected him for his toughness. he took so many shots, never threw anyone under the bus, and pulled himself out of the dirt each time.
there is no reason to bash him now. simply put, as a prospect, he had a lot of promise. it's not his fault he was thrown into the game with a below average supporting cast before he was ready.

Maybe he can learn something from Jeff Garcia. They seem to be the same type of QB.

Good Luck Charlie,...... It's funny how everbody perceves somebody elses weaknesses, he wasnt a leader, he had small hands, he wasnt smart enough, ect. I'm not gonna say anything, except, many of these posts before me are way off the mark, but everybody has the right to thier opinon, and no I'm no coachB.... I do know Charlie is at a very important time in his NFL career, This is the year he can make a mark that he can be a solid NFL back-up and prolong his career 4 5 6 more years. He knows it and isnt taking it lightly.

Oh yeah, and the QB grist mill that is Cleveland had nothing to do with his failure!
He was a great college QB that 1. landed in one of the worst cities for a young QB (at the time). 2. Did'nt quite have all the tools to make an NFL starter which may or may not have been seriously affected by number 1.

If he didn't have all the tools to make an NFL starter....then #1 wasn't going to make much of a difference now would it.....

Better take his Vitamin Pine to strengthen his backside for the NFL season. Needs to have some luck to catch on, and he will do for camp maybe. But he might well be a washout as well.

This, and Kyle Orton is named a starter, they both came out the same year I think, I had them as similar in projection in looking quickly at there college stats.
Another simularity I have is Troy Smith and Brady Quinn, both were similar in college, time will tell.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.
