I am about to redo a spare room as a Browns room. Of course it will have a tv, pictures, autographs, footballs etc.

The room now has a pinkish carpet in it. It was there when we bought the house, I swear. I don't wanna spend probably around 500 for new carpet and since there will be some beer drinkin' and wing eating in there on Sundays with my group of friends, there are bound to be some stains.

So I thought of plastic turf. Cheap, easily cleaned and has that football themed look to it. Is this a good idea or will I look like a dork with turf as my flooring. Just curious to what people think.

My friend did that in his game/football room and it turned out great. He even painted the yard lines on it. And your right about stains, he just takes it outside and shakes/washes it off and back in the room it goes.

Do yourself a favor, don't make any exaggerated movements while walking around. You're likely to tear your ACL.

Seriously, sounds like a good idea though.

E-mail Boise State to see if they have any of that blue turf left over. You can see that stuff from space.

Maybe dirt would be cool to simulate the old Muni infield!

Cool, do it.
What would it cost roughly for enough of that stuff to fit a room about 10 by 12?
Give me a number I like and my wife will hate you for it (if she begrudgingly gives me the go-ahead).

That will look cool. We used that as the carpet in our Browns Winnebago...

I don't know what it costs. It can't be too much I would think.
I was thinking also, instead of a Browns couch, I want to build a bar.
I don't want the feeling of sitting in a spare room watching the game, I want to be able to sit on a stool with your beer up on the bar just like you're at a sports bar.

Does anybody know where to get wallpaper that has the stadium on it, or a view of the field that would take up all of one wall?

I also want to put an electronic football game in there. You know, something to do at halftime.

Do you know how I can introduce staph to the turf for an even more real gameday experience?

I know bad joke.

I saw pictures of a Browns room where the floor was done in carpet tiles, with mostly orange, then 1 row of brown on each side of a single row of white down the middle. It looked like a helmet.

That was pretty cool.

Turf would be cool too if you did it all up with "yard markers" and end zones painted in.

I saw another room .. and to be honest I can't remember the team ..... but all of the walls were done in a panoramic series of photos from the inside of the stadium, done up in full surround. It gave the feel of being in the stadium. That was an incredible looking room.

That room would look awesome, but I just don't know where to find the stuff at.
I did look at carpet tiles. 200.00 for 10 brown ones with the helmet on them, and ten orange ones. Each one measures 18" by 18". That would cost some coin to do a room in those.

That took you some time to do that. Thanks though.
I didn't think of that idea. I bet you could get those squares pretty cheap. Brown and orange. Not very popular colors for carpet. Thanks for the idea.
I might have to steal it.

To get really anal and perfect about this, I would cut about a third off of the brown ones because the white stripe is wider than the brown ones.

Those carpet tiles are starting to sound good. But then I can't paint my walls orange and brown. Too dark and too much of the same color in the room. How about I paint my walls a football field green color. Not all the way, maybe put a chair rail up there and paint the bottom half green then the top white.
And the white half of course would have all the pics and footballs etc.
Meh, maybe not. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You can have photos and such blown up and use them as wall paper below a chair rail. Maybe a bunch of images in black and white (or "antique photo" looking brown) that you could paste up aroud nthe room. You could then paint the upper walls whatever color you wanted.

Just another idea ... from the house of ideas. lol

I like your idea of the antique looking images below a chair rail. But they have to be of former Browns greats and images of memorable plays. Hence the antique look. Current player stuff would have to be easily removable.

Who does the blow up of photos? And who wouldn't be uptight about copyright laws on these photos? Not that I would do anything like that.

I took that photo of Langhorne and Slaughter high fiving by the way. Don't come after me lawdogs.

I bet that you could go to most print shops and have images like those blown up fairly inexpensively. They usually don't give a damn if it's "one of this and one of that". If you were having 100 blown up to poster size they might squack .... but 1 or 2 of each image probably won't cause too much of an issue. They'd just basically be shooting copies.

I would check with a wallpaper shop also and find out what kind of paste would work best, and what type of glaze you would have to put on top for maximum protection.

That idea is getting me excited that you mentioned. But I am thinking first you start off with a continuous run of a picture of the old Muni all around the room below the chair rail like you suggested. In the antique look.

Then you put the images of the greats and great plays over the top of the muni run around the room without the original background of the pics I want. Antique look also. Maybe just a shade or two off of the muni background color. This would make it flow without having a different background every few feet. Know what I mean?

If I can get this done, by knowing who can do it, free beer and wings at my house forever on gamedays at my house for you.

But I would want the images over the Muni to be all part of the wallpaper. Not pasting images on top of the Muni. Sounds like some computer work to me.

I don't like the Buckeyes...but I'd be proud to have that room in my house. Awesome. If a Cleveland team ever won a title, I'd immortalize it that way (though it might not be on our home field).

I have had my eye on these for a long time, as I want to move my browns room to the basement, however with 1500 square feet of basement to cover it will cost some coin.

All the ideas mentioned are sweet. I can't decide if I like your's or YTown's better, but if you go with YTown's, don't forget to have the picture of Turkey Jones slamming down Bradford.

I've always liked the idea of using green outdoor carpet and painting yard markers, end zones, etc.

Doing a Browns version of "The Best Damn Room In The Land" is ultimately what I've had in mind, but I must admit that I have little artistic talent. Perhaps using an overhead projector might help with your mission?

I really like those fanmats GM. My back room on the ground floor is my computer - Browns - Buckeye room (actually aBuckeye room with Scarlet and Gray walls, but there are a numbe of Browns items on wall / shelves) . I almost bought a large Buckeye area rug, but settled on inexpensive black carpet. Those fanmats would be great in one of the kid's rooms as our nest empties (somday ).

Thanks.....I didn't want to be the first to say it.

They call it "outdoor" carpet for a reason. It's supposed to be used outdoors.....the front porch, the deck, the back porch.....steps.....etc.

A buddy of mine has his basement done into a great rec room, albeit Squeelers crap. It looks awesome except for the theme..... It's probably 15X60 in size, with a big-screen on one end with half a dozen lazy boys around it and behind them is a poker table and then you have the dartboard area then you move on to a bar with stools and another TV in the corner. Surround sound to the max and a gazillion pieces of paraphernalia........the flooring is green carpet. Not the outdoor stuff, but real carpet and that's the way to go inside.

Someone noted with the fake turf you could pick it up and take it outside and wash it off....that's all and well if all you do down there is stand on it with no furniture to move and it's only about an 8X8 piece or so.......but once you have furniture on it and tables and normal living stuff it would be a huge pain in the ass to "simply take outside and wash off."

Get regular carpet and don't paint yard lines on it......and remember that opinions were requested and this is just mine.

People who constantly spill beer and wing sauce on the floor should be told to be more careful or stay the hell out.

Thanks for the input. Seriously.
It's an idea I might do. I won't take it outside to clean it. I'm only thinking little stains. A drop of a wing here, a dropped beer there. Just spot clean the area. Not run the whole thing outside. If my buds were that bad, I wouldn't let them inside.

This is in the plannning stages. I have some time before the regular season starts. I don't see a bunch of people wanting to come over and catch a pre season game.

The players I'm looking at for those who care for my wallpaper as of now is coach Paul Brown, Otto Graham, Lou Groza, Jim Brown, Gene Hickerson, Brian Sipe, Clay Matthews, Bernie Kosar, and Ozzie Newsome.

The plays are Metcalf returning a punt against Shep's womans team. The Turkey Jones slam, and the Slaughter Langhorne high five. Just some ideas for the start of this.

True, but outdoor carpet on the deck? Is that to go with the porch couch.

Then again the truth is that I would put up a Fathead of Woody Hayes (or Coach Brown) in my living room if my boss, er, I mean my wife would let me.

Speaking of Fatheads, you might find this google result interesting jc.

I remember a Gran Torino here in town whose exterior was done completely in green outdoor carpet. Only in Springfield. I suppose it brings a whole new meaning to, "I vacuumed my car today".

Whether I'm hillbilly or not, I still like the outdoor carpet / yard marker idea. Theme rooms are often appropriately cheesy.

I don't think synthetic turf is all that easy to clean once you start talking about cheese dip being slobbered on the floor....and it isn't that cheap....the same or more than carpet...unless you are talking that indoor/outdoor stuff people throw on the outdoor patio.

If you want it to look good, (I think you said like a bar but maybe that was someone else) you are going to have to put some money and work in to the thing...so it may be a project that manifests over a few seasons as you manage to stuff away a few hundred here and a few hundred there.

Vinyl flooring is your cheapest route.

Also, pull up a corner of the carpet to see what is underneath..if you are in a older home, you may already have a hardwood floor that can be sanded and finished.

It looks as though I'm in the minority here but I agree with Shep. If its worth doing at all then it's worth doing well. I think that I would also be looking at the comfort level. I'd like to walk around my house with bare feet and carpet would feel much nicer that the plastic stuff.

I also think that a touch of class goes a long way. Would your idea be a room that would be nice to visit and watch a game in? I'm sure it would and it would give your friends something to talk about. I would want someplace that would be nice for entertaining all type of activities not just my drinking buddies during the game. A place that I could go to and relax at night after a long day. Who knows maybe your idea is perfect for you. It just doesn't sound like something I would enjoy in my rec room.

If your worried about spills maybe go with some type of tile.

Go to lowes or Menards & ask for thier carpet remnets, or pieces of mis cut or ends of the rolls. Usually you can get nice carpet dirty cheep, If it's in door outdoor carpet your looking for which I highly recommend for this type of room, you can find that thier too We bought a 40' x 40 ' green indoor outdoor carpet for $ 35.00, all that was wrong was the ends were unraveling, so we cut the hangers off and used some glue to seal the end and we've had it and use it when camping for about the last 6-7 years, I always see a roll in the cheep stuff.

Very true. My wife and I had intended on recarpeting our living and dining rooms only to realize that we had 3/4" oak with walnut detail. We refinished the hardwood and bought an area rug for each room for around $500.
