j/c Taking it in a bit different direction, how about the sitcom actors/actresses?
Top place in my view, well the folks coming to mind are Lucy Ball, Jackie Gleason, Andy Griffith.
Best 2nd banana's seems a lot easier to me. I immediately think of Don Knotts as Barney Fife and Art Carny as Ed Norton.
Most unforgettable characters for me are both from Taxi: Christopher Lloyd as Jim Ignatowski and Danny DeVito as Louie De Palma.
Worst casting ever: Jack Burns (once George Carlin's comedy partner and then later teamed up with Averyt Schreiber) as deputy Warren Ferguson, Don Knotts replacement on the Andy Griffith Show. Beside best shows, who would you say are some of sitcoms best people?

Mr. Haney on "Green Acres"
Newman on "Seinfeld"
Otis on "Andy Griffith"
Fonzie on the early "Happy Days" episodes. His schtick got old in a hurry.
Burgess Merideth (the Penguin) on "Batman"

Seinfeld All in the Family Cheers MASH Get Smart
I will give honorable mentions to Roseanne and George Lopez. Both were hysterical at first - great writing. Both went downhill quickly.

This list is by no means exhaustive, and I'm sure I'm leaving some out.
In no particular order:
The Simpsons The Venture Brothers The Office Seinfeld Family Guy Futurama Family Ties Cosby Show Golden Girls (that show just plain cracks me up)
Is MXC a sitcom? It sure makes me laugh like one.
I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

I'm not sure you get much better than Don Knotts as Barney Fife in the Andy Griffith Show.

I always maintain that "Roseanne" should've been called "Goodman". He carried that show.

John Larroquette as Dan Fielding (quite the uncouth pig!) John Ratzenberger as Cliff Claven Carroll O'connor as Archie Bunker
Also, a runner-up on my list above would be Hogan's Heroes I have a soft spot for that one.

Scrubs is great, true, I forgot about that show. A few animated shows I love that I think deserve mention since a lot of people are throwing out animated shows... Futurama Family Guy South Park The Simpsons As of 2010 all of those shows will be on the air and that's something worth smiling about.
